Right now? I don't think there is any question Crosby is insanely good but yeah McDavid at 19 years old is already top 2 man that kid is going to do what Crosby did soon. Wish I was that talented at 19 years old. But the Crosby's and McDavid's of the world don't come a long very often I have yet to read something about an upcoming draft where anyone close to that caliber (could) be available. That being said getting Patrick would still be a huge improvement he would instantly become the best prospect and allow Larkin to slot-in at the number 2 center spot and AA to play 3 line center.

I will never ever understand why Goose is being harped on so much, it's not his fault that some guys were expecting him to continue the insane rookie campaign, where he basically brought this team into the PO with his play. Around 60 points to me is very good for a second line winger. The Winger position is the easiest to fill but the Wings do have some pieces there it's the center and defense which screams for elite talent...if these 2 positions aren't on par with other teams the results can be seen with this years Wings edition and to some extent in Colorado, Dallas. With that being said Goose and Tatar are so similar still youngish and should net the Wings a solid return maybe package them up with Green and see if that could finally lead to GMs at least listening on trades of their top defenseman.

Red Wings trade Vanek to FLA for (D) Dylan McIlrath and Conditional 3rd Round Pick
frankgrimes replied to FireCaptain's topic in General
Yes, this should have been exactly the time to increase the role of the youngster and see if Larkin could be a potential 1 center, is AA capable of maybe becoming a 2c? and which young GR player can realistically be at the team next season. This is exactly what shortterm pain and longterm gain should be as of now, the streak is over hand the keys to the young guys and let's see what they got. Which can be very exciting just look at Edmonton, Buffalo, Winnipeg and Toronto tons of reasons for optimism even if they are losing right now. The goal has to be to close the gap to Arizona and Colorado somehow which honestly will be a huge task, we have to hope that both teams are starting to get on a bit of a run here. -

Yeah that's why companies need to keep upgrading and trying to re route the addresses better. Personally I think this region lock crap sucks. -
Comparing The Wings to other disappointments?

Good god came here and expected something new instead there is useless offtopic stuff going on. The Smith trade helps both teams soon awesome trade -
His rebuild time line always changes. I'm so over this. He did what he could this trade deadline, earned a solid B and saw how poorly constructed this team was for over 60 games now, if that doesn't scream rebuild to him, nothing will and for that reason alone I want Chris to throw the bank at the captain next year. Holland has made it absolutely clear that he doesn't want or believe in real rebuilds but this team really needs one so there is a miss match hopefully ownership is seeing that too. Yesterday I was optimistic, today I'm scared he signs another veteran to a ridiculous contract in the off season

use a VPN and set the location to Canada. No winger did return a lot other than Shattenkirk no team traded a first round pick..Reasons could be that the selling pieces weren't too great to begin with and teams are already planning for the expansion draft -
Red Wings trade Vanek to FLA for (D) Dylan McIlrath and Conditional 3rd Round Pick

I wasn't here around that time but I was one of the people wanting McIlrath very very happy to have this guy. Now looking forward to plugs like Komarov trying to run over Howard, Mrazek or Coreau again or even trying to look at one of the Wings smaller forwards and not thinking about McIlrath. Have fun next time the Wings and Bruins meet Marchand... @Nyquististhefuture: LA basically paid nothing for Iginla a guy who is beloved around the league, known for his leadership and work-ethic while Vanek is a soon to be UFA, with a bad reputation around the league, 33 years old, not exactly known as a gym-rat and he is playing for another (bigger) contract so given all of that expecting a first and maybe even a slight plus was never realistic. A 2nd round pick would have been nice but keep in mind if Florida makes the playoffs the Wings are getting the pick from Arizona which would be a very early third and at that range there really isn't much difference between the players, all are going to need years of development. McIlrath is basically a third pairing defensive defenseman making sure the Wings are tougher to play against and he doesn't come with a huge caphit. -

Wings winning back to back cups led the captain Winning the cup in 2008 on the opponent's ice Goose having a rookie season for the ages when Z and Pasha were on Ltir a few years ago Russian 5 toying with the opponent's Dmac making Lemieux his ***** and Shanahan flying into Roy Wings lighting up Roy in Montreal Perfect human Hattrick Mr. I raising his first cup as an owner Last but not least tears when the captain retired So overall a great history of excellence but it's time to build towards a new one. Thankfully it doesn't really matter that it ends this year nobody can take away all those memories from me. -
Jurco for a 3rd: A - guy couldn't make the wings starting lineup and Wings still got a 3rd pick for him great return Smith for a 2nd and 3rd: A, awesome he would have been past his prime once the Wings compete again and his salary demands were too high for a team looking to rebuild and in need cap flexibility Ott for a 6rd pick: Like the player and his never surrender attitude a lot getting a pick for him instead of future considerations makes this a very solid B Vanek for 3rd, McIlrath: C, I think Holland did the best he could. Dreger and others were reporting there is not much interest in him and his reputation is not the best to put it lightly...So getting something for him is better than nothing. Do people honestly believe Holland turned down a better offer? That's insane. Fans expecting a 1st when all indications were pointing in different direction had too high expectations in my mind. the only guy who could have returned one to me would have been Green but his salary is too high for deadline deals...Hopefully he gets dealt in the summer closer to the draft So overall I'm happy finally the Wings are sellers (should have been done in 2012), and hopefully committed to a real rebuild. Good job by Holland maybe he waited too long to move Vanek but that's just speculation, so Overall a steady B

Comparing The Wings to other disappointments?
frankgrimes replied to hardcoretom21's topic in General
Hardly and the reason is simple: wheter people believe it or not, I'm a Red Wings fan so I mostly care about what they are doing. It doesn't satisfy or annoy me if other teams are struggling or not. Of course I want Stevie Y to do well in Tampa because he needs to be next in line for the GM job and I for sure will jump on their playoff bandwagon but I won't be emotionally attached. I don't know why people are so hard on Tatar and Goose they are what they are solid top 6 wingers who's rookie seasons had some people expecting too much out of them. LA has won 2 cups and their core (Carter, Quick, Kopitar and Doughty) is still in their prime and I really like their style but I don't care if they win it all again or not. The Stars are you usual Ruff coached roster great offense but defence be damned and aside from Benn, Seguin and Spezza the star potential is limited. -
Told you guys to temper your expectations. Fair or not Vanek seems to have a somewhat negative reputation around the league. A first for him was just unrealistic from the get go Looooove McIllrath so I'm very happy with this. Holland realized to better get something than nothing which was the right decision. McIllrath will make sure the goaltenders aren't getting run over or people parking their asses Infront of them Now on to the summer to unload Green, Tatar/Goose

Of course Vanek hands down
-
The Vanek signing was more risky. I didn't expect him to have the season he is having so far that's for sure. With Ott basically everyone knew what the Wings were getting...A heart and soul guy who does very well in the face-off circle.
-
Only 800.000 cap hit and absolutely no risk and an entertaining player on a team that needed guys like him.
-
Like I've mentioned sad to see him go was the best off season signing. At least he has a chance of playing meaningful games now Habs are still in it.

Ott traded to Montreal for 6th Round Pick (2018)
frankgrimes replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
sad to see him go heart and soul guy willing to provide physicality. Good luck with the Habs -
That's why I've said some people need to temper their expectations and be happy to get a solid return for a guy who would be gone in the off season, anyways. I think it's much more concerning to hear nothing about a potential Green trade maybe his cap hit is too high for most teams and they'll look at it in the off season.
-
3 words: sell sell selll
-
Of course and that's the right thing to do I'm just saying if it's getting close to 1.3, 3 pm better come down before not getting anything back.
-
Well guys there is still some time left. The asking price of first round pick us and was unrealistic. Last time Vanek brought a second and a prospect back.. so the wings better come down with their asking price if they want to get at least something for him. Want a first? Sell Green! Smith, Vanek should return 2 second round picks, Green a first and then one of Tatar/Goose another first rounder... Ask Nielsen about a trade in the summer but good luck with that. TLDR; to early for panic
-
What was Lombardi thinking? Quick will be back soon. Sure he might need a few games here and there but where is the need for Bishop? He will basically reduced to a backup role once Quick is healthy again and has his game back. Maybe LA knows something about Quick that doesn't make them comfortable going with Budaj. Awesome job by Yzerman, clears capspace and gets something for a guy who would be gone anyways.

Tomas Jurco traded to Chicago for a 3rd rounder

Jarnkrok was traded alongside a second round pick for 3 months of Legwand service that's a whole different discussion than a guy who couldn't crack the worst lineup in the eastern conference. -
