    Kings fire Sutter & Lombardi

Like I said and I even agreed with you, I'm sure other fanbases would and guess what? I would be happy for them AND Holland. Sometimes a voice can became stale and it's time for new ideas and personally I think that's exactly where the Wings are right now. The core of the golden age minus Z and Kronwall is all but gone, the front office - as of now hasn't really changed - and that's all I'm saying. Do I believe other teams would be thrilled to sign a guy with Holland's curiculum? For sure but I would also be thrilled to see the as you call it "LAs garbage" running the Wings. And no, the grass isn't always greener but when there is an obvious upgrade a franchise that's serious about returning to the golden days has to at least talk to these guys. Only exception being if the captain would be willing to return in 1 year to fix and then spend a lot of time fixing this team.

    Kings fire Sutter & Lombardi

Well some franchises want to win the cup more than anything, others have fallen down the priority line thanks to a baseball team I guess... And yes the black white ones are looking so much better than the new ones. Lombardi is one of the best GMs in the game I'm shocked that the Isles aren't all over this. So what? Kings ownership thought changes need to happen and so they did. Whether it's for better or worse has to be seen but it doesn't change the fact that Lombardi, Sutter would be a huge upgrade

Then good luck and great for them. Lombardi did build a team that's Leon the cup twice in the last 5 years. The guy won't be unemployed for long.

04/08 GDT : Montreal Canadiens vs Detroit Red Wings : 7:00 PM ET

Not even the King or Price could overcome that defense. Green is more focused on points than defending, Danny has an off year and Kronwall needs to be a 3 pairing guy because his needs aren't going to get better. Z had an awesome year and yet it wasn't enough to even get them close to being competitive, this team is so flawed and lacks star potential at every position. Since this is the last regular season game i expect to read about a presser from Chris soon.
  8. Just keep throwing them and if you have the chance throw some PETA members on the ice also
  9. Here is my idea then: throw PETA members on the ice Best response would be to throw even more on the ice and make a big deal out of it.

NHL will not participate in 2018 Winter Olympics

That's why I've mentioned if the biggest stars are going AND the owners allow it ==> they have the blessing from the men paying for their contracts who should stop them? If I'm going to my boss and he tells me it's ok to go on vacation and then someone who doesn't pay me tells me no, I'd also tell him toi go f...himself - of course in nicer words - but you get the point. Of course insurance will play a role but we are talking about guys making millions of $ they'll for sure be able to sign a 2 months insurance contract. Also I won't be able to watch any of it because of the great time differense but I always think national pride should be rewarded simple as that. I mean the problems the NHL has with 2018 winter olympics will be the same in 2022 and yet they've already said they want to go? Such a double standard and the IOC, IIHF should tell them you are either in or out but players are welcome to participate.

This thread speaks for it's self

I'm just waiting till Chris Ilitch does his presser because without even reading it I for sure know what Holland is going to say

NHL will not participate in 2018 Winter Olympics

It's not a narrative it's a fact if the biggest stars are going AND some owners like Leonsis allow it? The NHL can do nothing about it. Personally i think it will be a very individual decision for some it will be worth it, others who may be on their last contract anyways i could also see them going. I think the chaos will be fantastic to watch Of course their will be some ramifications like paying for the missed time, covering your own hotel and flight costs but to most of these guys that's nothing

NHL will not participate in 2018 Winter Olympics

First off the players are paid by the owners not the NHL. Maybe check your facts next time the Olympics aren't an amateur tournament they are the biggest international stage in hockey. I hope the players are hardballers and just go anyways...OV already said he will go and his owner understands so tough luck NHL

NHL will not participate in 2018 Winter Olympics

Would so love it if Crosby and company just said screw it and went anyways the chaos would be fantastic

NHL will not participate in 2018 Winter Olympics

Well the NHL can do nothing if the players decide to go and pay for their own hotel, training so who cares. That being said Canada and the US would be hit the hardest by this because Sweden, Russia and even Finland are having enough talent playing in their home countries to overcome some stars not being there.

NHL will not participate in 2018 Winter Olympics

The stars and veterans will go anyways +/- 40.000 bucks is nothing for them, so who cares what the NHL thinks. Players want to go as does the NHLPA so the stars and veterans will be there.

    Matt Tkachuk: League's New Villain?

My type of player he can do it all and is a hardworking, tenacious kid would prefer him over every prospect the Wings currently have with the exception of maybe Larkin.

    The Streak is officially over

First off, Chris Ilitch is now the boss before it was Mr. I even if it's a family business it's still a huge difference because now Chris has the final word. So while technically it may not be new in reality it is new, Chris can run things however he likes it. I just hope he is like his father What the Wings have are a few secondary players who will be needed to support elite talent now the 1 million dollar question how do you get elite talent, well everyone knows the answer. Some just can't accept it no matter what.
  19. If Toronto can fix their defense next year the thought of having to play them 6 times a year is scary and it will only be year 3 of their rebuild. Insane how good their kids are

    The Streak is officially over

Yeah it's absolutely amazing seeing what Toronto did in roughly 2 years, their offense is insane Nylander, Marner and of course Matthews add to that Rielly and this is a real core to build around. Altough they'll have to trade one of the big 3 for defensive help that's for sure. Oilers are just ridiculous McDavid is sane, Draisaitl, Nurse, RNH backstopped by Talbot not bad not bad. I'm really amazed how many of those young kids are already the best players on their altough they are 19, 20 years old must be great to watch them every game. Would have been a nice time to start the fire-sale before the last 2 drafts so much great talent Like I've mentioned it doesn't really matter what Holland thinks if Chris doesn't like it Holland will be moved up or out, same with scouts, Blashill and whoever. It's his team now he is the owner and therefore the boss. Gallant, Maloney would be a nice duo if Yzerman doesn't want the job next year.

    The Streak is officially over

Speak for yourself, thanks. Making the streak more important than building a roster that could contend for a Stanley Cup in the future was a mistake, period. Experts - you know people who are paid to talk, write and what not about hockey - are saying the same thing. If this season wasn't an eye opener to some, nothing will be but thankfully it doesn't matter hopefully Chris Ilitch sees the Wings without his rose colored glasses and will see what they need to do in order to restore the once glorious winged wheel.

    The Streak is officially over

Well this current state of the Wings is his mess so of course he is going to try to spin everything into a positive. Holland hired the coach without interviewing other guys, made the streak more important than building a championship team for the long-run, promised to move up in 2012 he didn't so it cost the Wings the captain and then he litered the team with longterm contracts. It's like Brian Burke when he was the VP of the Maple Leafs of course he would say he'd do the Kessel trade (Kessel for Hamilton and Seguin) all over again and it's the same with Holland he will defend his moves no matter what. The good thing is it doesn't really matter if Chris Ilitch is unhappy (which he should be) and is on board with a real rebuild everyone who doesn't want one will be gone and replaced. So it's really not worth it getting worked up over the same comments we've been hearing since years. Remember the Maple Leafs when Shanahan came in? He knew what they needed, hired the right people and didn't stray away from the plan even 1 iota and keep in mind that guy had to convince Bell and Rogers...another great story would be Bob Nichelson in Edmonton he replaced their front-office with Koala and Chiarelli and boom turn around. It's almost comical what one guy aside from Nurse and Looch can do to even make non fans wanting to watch Oilers games that's a generational player right there.

    The Streak is officially over

I think Nil is a great GM, the guy fixed Dallas' center problem in 2 years by bringing in Seguin and Spezza but he needs to worry about his own team. The Wings are where they are because the streak was more of a burden during the last few years that's not showing a lack of a respect towards the 25 years it's just a fact. I wonder if Nil will say the same thing if Chris Ilitch demands answers for this from the top to the bottom? New building, new owner, new uncharted waters. Fact is the Wings should have started t he rebuild after failing to land Suter, Parise sadly they didn't and missed out on some good drafts highlighted by McDavid, Eichel, Matthews, Ekblad, Werenski and Jones...
