WMU is playing Michigan in the CCHA playoffs right now. Michigan is up 4-3. if WMU loses are they going to make the frozen four? if not and Michigan holds on, is Dekeyser available to be signed this weekend? next week? Great game-fell asleep in the 2nd int after working 12 hours and had to get up at 4am... Anyway. Anytime you can go on the road and destroy the 2nd best team in the WC it is a good night. Howard held us in untill Abby got shooting and the rest is history. Now lets not get carried away with Abby. yes he has played hard all year and was getting far to much hate here by many. i understand that. You never know how prospects will turn out. But we have 6 good Dman now, noit including Cola, all signed for 1 more year or will be soon. I just don't see the need for a guy like Smid. Now if we were picking up a true #1, ok that would be different.

Th problem with your line of thinking is, it doesnt take in account of the road vs home difference. Every team has one. The first 24 games this year was the weakest part of our schedule. More home games than road games, lower wpct as well. Now I fully understand, and hope that we find a little luck and run off a 8 of 10 streak somewhere along the line. But that would also require some more O and better overall play, that to date we haven't seen yet. But that is why we actually play the games on the ice, and not on paper or a forum.

Picks ys, get as many as possible. I disagree with the need for Dmen though. We have severl good young prospects already. It is at F that we have nothing coming. Now yes if a super drops to us, take him. But we need several big young mobile preferably RH shooting F/C's.

No there is no sure things. or very few. But waiting for lightening to strike for a 4th time is a sure fire way to lose 50 games per year.

With no one else selling, we would get max returns for anyone that we move. Filppula and franzen would get at leasta 1st and maybe a second pick to go with it. Cleary, White and Miller are all UFA's after this season-none should be resigned, so move them for some more mid round picks. Eaves and Colaivaco would also get some mid round picks. this would also clear out cap space to resign out UFA/RFA that we want to keep: Howard, brunner, Kindl, Smith, add a Dekeyser, and maybe 1 or 2 UFA's this summer. Then we go into the draft with 12+ picks and can move up or dwn as needed to get the quality young talent we need. The thought that keeping a streak alive to only get booted in the 1st round is silly. All streaks end sooner or later. having a streak and $2 keeps you a cup of coffee and that is about it. The goal is to win Cups. the second place team is just the first loser. Nothing more.The idea of 4, 5, 6 more years of just making the PO's, losing in the early rounds vs. taking a year or 2 off and loading up with young talent to win more cups, is no choice to me. To get a Crosby, Stamkos, Malkin type of player, you have to pick early. we could very well be 14 months from losing our star player and have NOTHING to replace him with.

There is logic in this. The only way to get superstars now is to draft them. Top players rarely make it to FA anymore. if they do, they bust your cap. The only way to drat these guys, is to have high picks. Its a catch 22. You can't make the PO's and get top 10 or 5 picks. WO top 5 or 10 picks you have a ceiling of only making the PO's.
