Detroit could be dangerous come playoff time...
wingedominance13 replied to BBD10's topic in General
I agree, gotta make em first, but if we do I like our chances to grind games out. I don't foresee any quick series but I do think we could win almost any series in 6 or 7. But that depends alot on the % of pav's play and a healthy Z -
wow.

I legitimately feel bad for the leafs. I want all original six teams to be the best six teams in the league. I enjoy the rivarly, i want them to be worse then the wings but still good. Its unfortunate their managment is a hot bag of poop
-
Agreed. I have no doubt he will always score in this league. I firmly believe until he plays a two way game he won't ever win a cup. He is paid to much money and it handicaps a team to put together a SC roster (so unless the cap goes wayyy up)
-
Not only that but the Capitals have talent in supporting positions that if the team played to score as a team, not score through ovi i think not only would the teams production increase, but I dont think ovi's production would (assuming he gave at least 75% effort) decrease. Not being predictable would open Ovi up 5-5. there is a reason he is killing PP points, because 4 guys can't just cover him. If he gets any space he's deadly, best way to give him space is to make the opposing team focus on shutting something else down besides just him. You see it in every team sport ever. Unless the superstar has someone to alleviate some of the focus they aren't going to win the championship.
-
My problem with Ovi is he has the god given ability to be a dominant hockey player everywhere on the ice. He has the size, the speed, the agility, the strength, the hands, and the shot. But all you ever see him do it wait at the blue line, go to the slot, and rip it. and occasionally throw a check.

Hilarious. Doesn't surprise me one bit and does not make me dislike him less. He is a ball of energy on the ice, figured he would be a handful in real life.

To me thats exactly what kids/injuries give you. Its not like Edmonton gets behind every game by three goals, without solid reliable veterans somewhere in the lineup teams show inconsistencies through periods. This is one of the first years watching the wings where you do not know what to expect after each intermission. Usually you can watch the first period of a game and know whether the wings have the legs and if they are going to win (without taking in to account the unfortunate unlucky bounces). Here we have a team that can play with any one in the league one minute and then give away a two goal lead in three minutes. The kids have played great and sprinkled among the likes of two superstar two way forwards this season would have been more consistent, but due to the injuries you never know what to expect over 20 minutes of hockey let alone the whole 60.

Finally an optimism thread. I like it.

I was born during the 90-91 season... I have never known a life without the postseason. I do not want to know that life. Wings need to get another role here this weekend.

GDT 3/27 GDT - Canadiens 5 vs. Red Wings 4

We need to get a point out this game in the worst way, losing to BJ's made things a little too tight. Toronto will win a game eventually so we need to keep the distance. -
gdt 3/25 GDT - Red Wings 2 at Blue Jackets 4

A win tonight would have sitting a little more comfortable when i go to the game this weekend. Putting the BJ's in our rear view is a must. -
Ya his speed and size reminds me of Jan Mursak.. or maybe thats just because he is right handed. But I hope he doesn't follow the same trajectory. Wings keep burying him, something happens so they can keep him on the roster and then eventually he gets to old to be a prospect anymore and they cut ties.

Unfortunately Ferraro proved why he had not been called up yet. While we have had numerous great storylines of young kids taking their piece of the pie, Ferraro was not one of them. Nor was Pulkinen fro that matter (but this is his first yr in NA and he is a scorer who needs minutes, whole different scenario). Heres to hoping Callahan plays with a burr in his saddle and makes some noise.

GDT 3/20 GDT - Penguins 4 at Red Wings 5 (OT)

it would be highly ideal if we could get at least a point out of this game -
About to buy a chicken and start making a sacrifice to the hockey gods

If there was a must win game, besides the last three, this is it.

Red Wings sign college FA Colin Campbell
wingedominance13 replied to Son of a Wing's topic in General
care to elaborate, why not very impressed? Most of use have never heard of this kid until last night so anything you've got (while subjective) would be nice -
Is this what other teams usually feel like? Watching a team struggle with mediocre players? Man I've been spoiled I miss being spoiled...

Red Wings sign college FA Colin Campbell
wingedominance13 replied to Son of a Wing's topic in General
Don't mind this signing at all. Bigger, grittier RW who bolsters a decimated GR team with the potential to grow into a role with no risk. GR has been absolutely gutted this year and he is not taking anyones spot right now so good for him, hope he surprises everyone and succeeds. -
Wings are deep at center, especially when/if we get healthy. But if this kid is willing to come to camp and try out go for it. It would be great to have him as an emergency call up at some point (like when helm gets hurt again) but I just don't see the Wings having space for him right now, maybe in a year or two unfortunately.

Stamkos: the guy just does it right, decently humble and plays hard. Not the best backchecker in the world but of the elite scorers I'd say he has an above average complete game (cough Ovi cough) Karlsson: Love watching him play, smooth skating and his turning ability is incredible.
