I don't think so. Ottawa played pretty disciplined for what happened and was said before. Their problems are that a.) the Habs are plain and simple the better and deeper team with Pacioretty back b.) they are losing the goaltending battle. It looks like Hammond has run its course and is coming down to earth. c.) they overachieved and it shows now. While I have a great sympathy for the Sens and their story this year the declining Bruins are still the better team and should have made the playoffs if everything went normal. In other words : Their hot streak has come an end. They might come back, I'd not be the first one to write the Sens off this season only to see them ridicule my words. But I doubt it.

+/- is a dumb stat to measure an individual players effort. Take the third goal from yesterday for example. Marchenko has its man, but Weiss is floating around staring at the puck, while his man, Sustr, rushes into the slot and scores the goal. That is hardly Marchenkos fault but the result is a -1 for him regardless. I thought Marchenko was abysmal in Game 1, which is understandable, it was his first playoff game. He looked much better in Game 2 so he isn't the one who should sit, at least not because of his +/- . Would Smith be an improvement ? I already made my point more than once about that in other threads.

I watched the game with a friend. It was his first and and at least Wings put up a good show. I think we massively improved from game one, although our defensive coverage was so far off some time I wondered if some of the guys were just gone relaxing at the beach. If we fix this until next game we will be fine. Because our offense looked realgud™. It was one of those games where the opponent scored on every chance while we couldn't to save our lives. But we stole one game, we have what we needed. Tampa doesn't go down without a fight but we have the advantage now. If we win our two homegames we are in a great position to win this series.

This exact fact could be Tampas psychological poison. They outplayed us in every department (except goaltending) and still lost. Watch out if we score the first goal tomorrow. I bet you will almost see the little thought bubbles reading "Oh no, not again" popping above their heads. A few more positives : Bishop has a huge game tomorrow. He was suspected to be weak because of his playoff performances in the minors and was. The next guy who has to prove his mental toughness. Granted, it was not an easy game for him, but if he continues to give up weak goals Tampa is in real trouble. On the other hand our greatest weakness during the last month, the atrocious PK and goaltending, has been great last night so that should give the Wings some confidence. And Zetterberg had an awful game by his standards. We all know what that means. Regarding our second line : I'm not sure what the coaching orders were. Stamkos was nearly invisible during the game, so I don't consider the second line a failure. If they are able to hold Stamkos at the points total that he has now I don't mind them not scoring.

I'm actually not sure about that. Tampa is a very fast team. I doubt we can match that, at least not with all four lines, so positional play might be our only option. I wondered the whole game if the many shots by Tampa were indeed part of the gameplan. I saw our guys mostly covering the slot and the crease. Most of Tampas shots were weak shots from the boards or unscreened from the blueline. If that was the gameplan Babs has balls of titanium. It went well in the end, but yeah, that kind of style won't get us far in the series.

Apart from Mrazek the key for tonights game was the defense stepping up. Quincy, Ericsson and especially DeKeyser had much better games than in the regular season. What a defensive battle.

That and the shots don't tell the whole story. I don't think the Wings were that bad as some make them here. It wasn't a huge period for sure but we all knew that Tampa is an offensive powerhouse before and that the Wings would have to survive some offensive zone sieges. They did so far and not just because they are lucky but because they kept the slot clean and were first to clear Mrazeks rebounds. Of course Mrazek has a huge game so far, too. Wings just need to shoot the puck a little bit more and clear the puck faster.
