All the more reason to tell Tatar peace out if he wants more.
-
That's not Holland's words lol and even if it was that's not s*** talking unless you're a sensitive teenager.
-
No.. I don't know. I don't think anyone knows. What did Holland say? I don't think Holland ever " talked s*** " about Mrazek you're acting like he said some awful things. So I'm asking you.. like what? I just google searched and I can't find anything.
-
Ironic that they get rid of Bedard (Howards coach for a long time) and bring in Mrazek's coach and Howard ends up having the better year. Hockey Karma lol.

I agree. Tatar is not a game changer for this team. He scores goals, usually off of amazing Zetterberg (and previously Datsyuk) assists. I'm not sure if making him close to the highest paid player on the team is the right thing to do. AA scored 18 goals in 20 less games than Tatar. Except AA can also kill penalties and is super fast. Of course AA gets sheltered minutes too but his linemates aren't as good as Tatar's. I just don't think losing Tatar is going to hurt us as much as others might think, we have plenty of young guys coming through that will more than make up for his 25 goals. Additionally, last season Tatar wasn't really that much better than others at goal scoring. All of AA, Mantha and Tatar scored at about the same rate. The only difference is Tatar got to play 20+ more games than both of them. The year before last year, Larkin outscored Tatar. And he's supposed to be more of a set-up guy. I think people see the "25 goal" mark from last season and are automatically assuming "great" goal scorer. But if you look at the full context, all of AA, Mantha, Tatar, Larkin, Vanek are one in the same in the goals department. AA and Mantha are probably better actually and they're not even close to their primes yet, while Tatar probably is in his prime. So why give him 7 years when you have younger players already producing at the same rate? I say Holland sticks to his offer and if Tatar doesn't want it then flip him for a nice trade. This is a win-win situation for Holland and the Red Wings imo. If Tatar takes the cheaper offer, great, if not, then we get something back and we have plenty of players to replace him. I can see a nice Mantha - Zetterberg - AA line after this season.

Starting to wonder if that's too long of a contract for someone who just scores goals (at an above average rate). I mean he doesn't really bring much else to the team, and if his scoring rate drops he'll be worthless for us. I'd rather sign him for 4 years. It would be one thing if he was a two-way forward or an excellent playmaker that was versatile.
-
I know, if Holland gives Tatar (a 2nd line one-dimensional winger) that much money he's an idiot.
-
Dickie the boy with rose colored glasses for Tatar?
-
Not if he's asking for $6 million. I've already said $5 million is the max. The real question is, now that he's clarified his relationship with Holland is good, how do YOU feel about that? Sounds to me like Holland is putting the best deal for the team and Tatar wants more $$ than he deserves.
-
And then trade him for a first round pick or a 1D or assets ---------- Hearing that AA will get around 2 years for $1.5 million per.
-
Hah you've completely lost it if you have to make this wild argument to make excuses for Tatar and complain about Holland in every post. Whatever nationality Tatar is, doesn't matter. He's not worth the money he's asking for and not getting his way and threatening this to be his last contract is childish and is a bad attitude. Go ahead, quote me and (somehow) cry about Holland again. We know it's coming. It's hilarious to watch you obsess over Holland/Blashill.
-
He knows that but he'll take any opportunity to cry wolf.
-
Because Nielsen was a free agent and Tatar is not a UFA. You're excused for your brain fart.
-
... a "what-if" contract is worse than any contract Holland has ever given.
-
I'm starting to agree. His total earnings would be $31.5 million. That's $1.5 million more than what Tyler Johnson would have made by the 6th year of his contract. He should be making no more than $4.75 million imo, and definitely not more than Johnson by the time the last year of his contract hits.. But whatever, $5 million to ease his stubbornness should be the sufficient. Jeez, I'm shocked if he really does want $6 million. That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Basically asking to get paid the same as the best player on the team (Zetterberg whose cap hit is $6.08 million). In order to be at that level, you have to produce at that level. And Tatar was about 22 points behind Z last season... Yikes. Not even close. Not to mention Z does more than score points, plays center and is a really good defensive forward. I'm not sure what Tatar is thinking. I wonder how much others in the league are making that score at his level. That's probably whats causing all this ruckus. We know the Johnson contract screws him over but I wonder about other players.

Just to be assholes we should sign and trade him to a crap team in the middle of nowhere. Somewhere with dry heat where the ice is terrible. Like Arizona or something.
-
According to the Khan article Tatar rejected a 5 year $5 million offer and wants closer to $6 million for 6-7 years. Would ya'll pay?

Teams are allowed to spend over 10% of the cap limit so if the cap limit is $75 million, they can go upto $82.5 to start the season. https://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2017/6/26/15871080/detroit-red-wings-cap-space-roster-spots-recapture-penalties-and-buyouts-for-june-2017-luongo-rule "Also, prior to the season opening, all teams have an extra 10% cushion in which they can exceed the cap. While this means they could go up to $82.5, as long as their cap number stays below $79M, they’re right on track. If you want to be super-specific, say that the Red Wings have $11,857,500 in cap space. If you want to discuss it, just say they have a hair under $12 million."
-
Right but he's not even a top 20 or 25 or top 30 goal scorer. So he's above average I guess?
-
Not to take away from your point but if 30 players have scored more than him in 3 years, that doesn't sound all the impressive lol. Just means he isnt a top 10, top 20 or a top 25 goal scorer. Somewhere outside of top 30 goal scoring, certainly not average or mediocre but.. not THAT special either.
-
I think we have cap space to sign all of AA, Tatar and Vanek. We have $10.6 million. Assume $5 million for Tatar. $5.5 mill left. $2.6 mill for AA and $3 million for Vanek. Or however you want to divide it. https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/redwings Take a look at the deadline cap space. I think it's how much we're allowed to spend (every team is allowed upto 10% of the salary cap which is upto $82.5 million this year)

None of our current contracts are past 2022. If Holland has offered him a 5 year deal, that also falls into 2022. Whatever Holland's plans are, he doesn't seem to be committed to anything past 2022 (the next 5 years). Maybe he's waiting to see how Mantha, Svech, AA, Larkin turn out and will build the team around them further.
-
No but Tyler Johnson is a playoff god for Tampa
-
He's definitely not elite. Usually those guys get locked in. But yeah these days everyone gets locked in so..
