  1. This is quite literally the dumbest argument I've seen in a while. Call me fallacious or mean or whatever. You would rather this team miss the playoffs and finish in the bottom third of the league (20th - 25th line you say) and NOT get a high draft pick? I thank the lord we don't have a GM that thinks like this. Your argument is basically egotistical rather than anything being close to rational. That you would rather this team not be "a joke" for some sort of pride issue? A team like you suggest would be the butt end of EVERY joke. "Detroit Red Wings, notorious for finishing 20th in the league every year, missing the playoffs, and having s*** draft pick and then continuing to be try hards and still not making the playoffs nor drafting a top player". This is basically the Detroit Pistons from 2009 to now. Can't get a good draft pick, always finish 20th or a little worse and then rinse and repeat. The repeated cycle caused the Pistons organization to become completely insignificant in the league, and even if they make the playoffs this year they'll likely get demolished because NBA playoffs the super team just simply always win. So unfortunately for them the situation is even worse. This debate is over. I have nothing to add towards something this silly.
  2. Who do you think? Larkin then?
  3. I'm sure @Neomaxizoomdweebie will be happy to know that the Red Wings didn't tank for this game and won and AA scored both the goals. Right? Nah something's not right in that equation.

News From Around the NHL *Mod warning page 75*

    You're kidding right?
  5. And they tried from 2009 until last year and it didn't work out. As for the second bolded part. Sure it's "possible". But probability is low and we're trying to get good fast and now, and ain't nobody has time to continue wasting trying to hope to find a gem someone in a random draft position. We've been trying that for more than a decade and have had zero luck drafting a worthy player since Franzen/Kronwall pre 2000s. Specifically, if you've been paying attention to the last 20 years of our draft, we haven't had much luck trying to get high end players. Nyquist and Tatar were secondary players at best and nothing more. Not a 1D like Kronwall, not a top 3 winger like Franzen. So rather than clinging on to "possibility" like you say; Holland has moved his philosophy towards "probability". And it's a proven point that there's a higher probability of getting good players high in the draft. Period.
  6. They’re not deliberately tanking. They’re not pulling the players to the side and saying “ok we have to lose these games”. You’re trying to push a narrative that only exists in your head. The team sucks, plain and simple. They know they’ll end up somewhere high in the draft and hence they've stock piled their picks to use them in the draft at those high points each round. It's pretty simple.
  7. This has literally never happened with the Red Wings. And it's not going to. If someone argues "The Dead Wings" era then I suggest doing a history search on why that era actually happened (it was more of a political issue within the organization and change in style of play forced upon the players). So this argument that keeps being brought up is silly. Literally nobody in that organization wants to be unsuccessful.
  8. What losing culture lol? Sitting on a computer from Indiana doesn't really give you a birdseye view of what's going on with the fans in Michigan/Detroit. You think fan enjoy the losses? People want us to get a good draft pick and then win. It's the big picture; this organization is a dominant and one of the best in the league and always will be. They're in it to win big, eventually. There will never be a losing culture with the Detroit Red Wings and there hasn't been since 1926. From the great depression, into WW2, into Civil rights into the Gulf war, this team has been THE TEAM that has won big. Yes the Detroit Lions and football in general is more popular, but it's always been the Red Wings that brought the "win" mentality in Detroit. Michigan pumps the most hockey player talent in the NTDP next to probably Minnesota.
  9. Just for @krsmith17 i want a 9-10 game where we lose with 10 sec left in third.
  10. I was being facetious. But also
  11. LGW.com is anti-Holland. The rest of the internet including writers: https://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2019/2/11/18217328/is-ken-holland-really-steering-this-team-back-on-course https://www.metrotimes.com/detroit/the-rise-fall-and-rebuild-of-ken-hollands-red-wings/Content?oid=6343388 https://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/is-ken-holland-the-toews-of-gming.2109803/ https://971theticket.radio.com/articles/frustrated-ken-holland-shoots-down-report-no-trade-clauses-handcuffed-him-deadline https://thehockeywriters.com/detroit-red-wings-slumping-in-eastern-conference/
  12. Spine issues? This is Zetterberg all over again. Make it stop.
  13. I've said it before, he absolutely has the potential to be a top 6 player and a second line center. Whether or not we need him there is another story. People on these forums underestimate the guy quite a bit.
  14. Yeah the Red Wings tried this. Where were you between 2012 and 2016? Not on these boards thats fo sho. "Rebuild on the fly"; keep secondary scorers and/or sign them while we had Zetterberg and Datsyuk and had our draft picks like Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco and Sheahan. Signed Brunner. They tried what you suggested and actually failed. Precisely why the GM is now doing another approach which is fully building through the draft.
  15. I mean do you have any substantial evidence that proves this? Or is it all theoretical. Signing Nyquist now for 5 years when we’re not even a contender makes no sense. And don’t exactly know when we will be able to contend. It could be 10 years from now. If you hold onto al your players you don’t get draft picks other than the default ones you’re granted. If you’re trying to build thru the draft then you have to trade to get more picks. Thus is GM 101 and precisely why NHL GM throughout the league in every sport do this. You sign a secondary scorer when you’re ready to make the push. You don’t keep one around assuming you’ll contend tomorrow when in reality it could be 2030. By which time Nyquist would be 40+ but another secondary scorer might be 28 years old and we sign that guy at that point in time. It also goes both ways. Nyquist may not want to play here due to the fact that we’re not ready. He’s may end up staying in San Jose to win the cup who are closer to it then we are. It’s not as simple as you make it seem. It takes two to tango.
  16. Wasn’t someone else in the recent couple years out for two weeks with a virus
  17. You're right he did. That was also when he was 24 and 25 years old and not 29 turning 30.

    Tavares Return to NY Video

Yeah Toronto was really dramatizing the situation. They just wanted to be relevant to the situation. But they really aren't. It's between Tavares and the Isles fans. They'll get over it just like we got over Fedorov.
