That technically isn't considered rebuilding. Besides, Holland said his goal next year is to make playoffs. So again, doesn't sound like a rebuild. I'll share my thoughts more once we see what the deal is (if there actually is one)

    Off-season moves

Playoff teams don't necessarily want them and are already good enough to make it far. Unless we're talking about someone like Tavares. Even a playoff team would want him regardless of elite they are.

Sell at trade deadline for picks. Obviously. Uh yeah. And sell them each at the deadline. 2018 draft is supposedly very strong.

Sign him to a one year deal

Doubt Larkin would even make the roster if Babcock was still here instead of Blashill. Holland would have called him up but Babcock would have kept him a healthy scratch. Because "he shoots the puck but he needs to be real gud in the corners like Z and Pav."

It's worse, at least Lefty had legit debating points. All I see is name calling like "Trashill", not much else. Borderline obsessive.

It's amazing how your whipping boy is Blashill, when in reality our roster isn't even that good and even Babcock struggled terribly with it. I mean not a fan of Blashill myself but it's hilarious how you exaggerate the problem.

Hindsight 20/20. Kronwall was putting out 45-49 points and playing big minutes before injury. Ericsson was playing top line minutes before he signed his contract and his corsi was around 54% playing tough minutes as well. Two years from now if Brenden Smith gets a knee injury someone named krsmith53 might come along saying "I'd take Player X at $5 million than Brenden Smith who can't even put up 10 points and plays only 40 games a season with a bad knee". Kronwall was every bit worth his contract when it was signed, I'd even go as far as saying he was underpaid over the course of his career. Ericsson's contract was fine when he signed it, then he started sucking. Smith isn't worth $4.35 million, guy can't even score 20 points in a single season. And if I'm not mistaken you were the one who said you wanted to keep Smith at around $3 million a few months ago, now that it's more than a million it seems like you are trying to justify it... Anyways, I'm glad New York threw this contract. Good riddance. Last thing we needed was another overpaid contract for an underperforming player (DK is still one of the most annoying contracts to me). We need puck moving defenseman sure, but we need puck moving defenseman that can actually put up points (more Mike Greens less Brenden Smiths).

Except that both pre-injury Kronwall and Green are better than Smith will ever be. Kronwall was a 50 point scorer that logged 1st pair minutes. Green was a former 30 goal scorer. Smith would be lucky to even sniff 20 points in an entire season.

Lol. Okay. LMAO. Talk about being overpaid. He plays 30 some games with them and they offer him a 4 year contract $4.35 million per year. And people ***** about Holland and the contracts he gives out.

    Targets for the Wings

He's not better than the top 9. Just in his 2 games you could tell. He needs another year in GR. He's not like Larkin who was a shoe-in. Nor was he like AA or Mantha who we're debatable. Svech was not debatable last year. He needed and probably still needs more time in GR. Unless something changes this summer. Furthermore, EVEN if he is better than say ONE player on the top 9, it doesn't necessarily mean the right decision is to bring him up. First of all it's a matter of development. Will Svech benefit from coming up now, or will another year in AHL help him reach his ceiling? If it's a choice of being the 9th best forward and being on the roster vs. potentially becoming a top 3 player with one more year of experience in AHL (with heavier minutes), then as a GM or a coach I would want the second choice every single time. But of course some of ya'll don't think that deep and jump on the "omg omg omg Holland something something vets favored, Svech not in, I want to see his orange , acne face something something Holland smells bad" narrative or whatever.

    Targets for the Wings

Not the point, he was still called up at age 20 and first year as pro. And Mantha, Larkin, AA are all on roster. So what exactly was the point of your post? If Svech doesn't make it opening night, he's not good enough to beat out the top 9 period. Regardless of what you think from behind your taptalk phone virtual keyboard at work.

    Targets for the Wings

Dude what? Holland has literally brought in Larkin, Mantha, Svech all within a 1 year time period. Two of those guys he brought in for a top 6 role. He's adapting just fine. It's not a black and white argument. He's doing exactly what your post says. "Higher end prospects" HAVE been brought up by 20-21. All of our higher end prospects have. All as in the only 3-4 that we have. Even AA was brought in at 21.

Ahahahahahha this is great. Frank raves about Toews being the best player because of "all the hardware" but then also raves about Babcock being the best coach in all of hockey who has ZERO Jack Adams awards.

    Off-season moves

The other reason I'd do it is because it looks like Holland is still interested in signing free agents. Grigirenko is young and would be a cheap option. Could be a good investment and beats signing free agent for ridiculous money. I've seen him play for Colorado a couple times. He's a good skater, makes good passes, doesn't seem like much of a scorer though, but with the right Wingers you never know

I think so yeah. He's still young and can thrive in a different system. I feel as though his development was unfortunately stunted by s***ty Buffalo and Colorado. They already are. Dallas fans don't think that highly of Nill, only LGW people do because anyone but Holland. People here are in a bubble.

    2017 Draft

3 years if they want him to develop is 5 on 5 game. 1 year if they don't care about the 5 on 5 and want him on PP asap.

His brother got drafted by Chicago, I'd think he was going to pick Detroit to be closer to the brother. Guess not. If the report is legit that is. But it looks fake.

    2017 Draft

The ONLY issue I have with Ken Holland are the Helm, Glendening, Dekeyser contracts and the length of the Abdelkader contract. I don't even fault him for the Ericsson contract as at the time it was a good one - then Ericsson started sucking and became exposed when Kronwall started to slow down, so it turned into a hindsight thing. The picks in the last 4 years have actually been good. Larkin, Mantha, Svech, Rasmussen gonna be good too, ya'll just wait.
