It's 2019 not 2015. The debate you're trying to bring up has long been settled. Yes there were those that irrationally shat on the guy for years. But the truth is that he just sucks and it's time to move on. Had a great year in 2013 and declined badly. Even the anti-hate Ericsson crowd (like myself) agree that he hasn't been cutting it for a long time and is an overpaid player. That much was made obvious and definitive around 2016-ish. To the point where Jeff Blashill has scratched him.

Weird flex, but ok. To my original point, it’s a cyclical phase, dump vets, dumb picks. It’s unpredictable and GM’s do what they can. If you stand pat, then GM-ing wouldn’t really exist. Tl;dr rebuild isn’t close, trade Nyquist, Jensen. Edit: Jensen gone.

That’s hindsight bias. We gave them up because we didn’t have them and at that point in time we needed them. And we’ll need to reaquire them once we’re contending again. We can’t predict when we’re going to contend or if the picks we acquire will translate to anything. It could take 3 years or 10. Which is why you trade until something falls together. But hanging onto vets and assuming that it’s good to keep them since we’ll be ready for playoffs in a couple years is reaching. Leafs did that for years and never actually got anywhere for a decade.

Look at my edit, I'd bring him in for couple million as a 3rd line center or something. Cheap 1 year deal. He'll get fans excited for sure. The city needs to become Hockeytown again. It's currently Hipster town at best.

Bring in Yzerman and the ticket sales will increase. Fans don't give a s*** about Holland anymore; like I said he's old news/stale presence now. Longest GM tenure and last 10 years without a cup under him has people turned off completely. He's just 1 part of the many changes that are needed. Fans need jolt of excitement. Big trades this summer, GM named Yzerman, and the return of Datsyuk. Guarantee you people will come wearing Datsyuk and Yzerman jerseys. To be honest though I wouldn't re-sign Dats unless it was only for a couple million though.

What if Holland signs Panarin this summer and Datsyuk returns too?

Right but look at where we got Veleno. Players drop all the time. Plus the 1st round picks could be used as currency to bring something else like a top D man into the team. This is one of those cases where I would want Holland to hoard all the picks by expending a couple of our young guys and waiting until the right D-man or Center is available to pull the trigger. Turn those first rounders into Drew Doughty baby. LA gonna be in rebuild mode soon enough.

I think I would do it. I don't think Vegas makes it far this year. We would have guaranteed two 1st round picks for the next 3 years. Beyond that first round players are "usually" average/below average. 1st round picks more or less give you top 6 forwards / top 4 defensemen. But the sky is blue today.

We're basically the 2015 version of the Leafs. Except they got Mathews, traded for Anderson and picked up Zaitsev to help their defense. We've yet do attempt any of those. The draft will be our best hope (again). Doubt any big player trades will be done by Holland. Holland will end up resigning 3-4 players with NTC/NMC this summer. Including Luke Witkowski.

Why they do this. Getting a point and all that. This should be their motto for now. Thank you, next season.
