I think the poster is teaching us all a very valuable lesson when the situation is flipped. Maybe a reminder that the years and years of Osgood, Howard, Franzen hate was ludicrous. And suddenly when it's the poster child of the forum (Mrazek) is under controversy... suddenly people don't like it when the tables are turned. Suddenly people start realizing how irrational hate can be so.. annoying! I say it's a good way for us all to come together and be a bit more objective in our assessments from here on out. Brenden Smith would NEVER be a top 4 defenseman on a good team. He's an optimal 5th defenseman who should play sheltered minutes. The fact that Smith is considered a top 4 defenseman or is even in that convo really shows how we as fans are starting to get used to low quality since Lidstrom, Rafalski, Stuart left.

Exactly my point. Somewhere in the middle is being confused about what ya want. Nothing wrong with it, we've been spoiled for 25 years and it's new to us. I want us to make playoffs, but there are days where even I'm not sure if it matters. I do however, find it unacceptable to see my team at the bottom of the standings. Personally.

Hahahah I'm calling bs. If you want them to tank and want high draft picks you are definitely not happy if they win and make the playoffs. You would rather the team FAIL this year. If you are actually happy if they win but would rather them get high picks, then you're confused in your desires, and that's ok. At the very least people should own up to it and admit it. Don't say thing like "oh well when I'm watching I want them to win but... but I want our future to be good and the only way is high draft". At least Leafs fans owned up to tanking last year and openly admitted they'd rather keep losing games. Hell some would even get pissed if they won. Well there's those that want us to miss so we get a high pick and kick ass later. And then there's those who think we're terrible all around, want to be right about it, and the moment we win a game or two, disappear for a bit because they probably didn't like the fact that we won. We have games at hand with Tampa and Florida, if we keep winning and Boston keeps losing, we would get the division spot. Tampa and Florida would have to win and count on the fact that we lose. So even if the rest of the teams in the conference keep winning as long as we win and Boston keeps losing, we automatically are in playoff contention.

I mean all it takes is for one team to drop a deuce and right now Boston is the one that seems to be. Wings can take advantage of Boston's failures the next stretch and we get the 3rd spot.

Ughh i dont want a 2nd round. The thing with 2nd round picks is that they are basically a 3rd round pick if a team like Chicago gets him. Like 58-60th overall? I'd only do it if it was a 1st rounder because the 1st rounder would be closer to a 2nd round pick

Right but those same players had the ability to reach 100 points in the past but no longer can. Is it decline or is it because of how the game has changed? Malkin, Ovechkin for example.

You could also consider Crosby to be the "Gretzky" of the current era. Do you know what I mean? For instance, Gretzky scored insane numbers but the 2nd and 3rd place scoring leaders still had high amount of points but just not as many as Gretzky. So maybe Crosby himself is just an outlier while #s 2 -5 on the list are equally elite top talent that are just not scoring as much in the post 2010 era with the way the game has changed. I'd have to dig up the numbers to see the correlation and comparisons but I just feel like if Crosby is still maintaining 100+ point rate but everyone else isn't, he must just be an exception.
