I'm not sure if toughness soley has as place anymore. I think if we could get some guys that are like Shanahan that can be both skilled and tough at the same time, that would probably mesh well in todays hockey. For instance Anthony Mantha is a goal scorer that can drop them if needed. I like that about him. (Although he just lost the fight he got into lol) Another example is Iginla in the 2000s, Corey Perry

Probably was the Russian version of Chelios since Chelly was around a while before. As far as skills + toughness. You mean you'd like for us to be like the LA kings? Highly skillled team that likes to drop em and throw some big hits. Also have 2 cups on their record the last 4 years.

Dam Mantha got wrecked

Ahh Fedorov's 5 goal night. My old man crush

This team needs a new coach. Not because of the old argument that Blashill sucks but because they look lost out there and need a reset.
-
True. Our best scorer (total points) right now is the slowest skater lol.
-
He would be slow as hell but he'd be a sniper for sure.
-
Shanahan is the man. Aging so well.

Strange Yzerman says "we don't get to see each other as much" but Shanny says "we get to see each other a lot". Is Yzerman not invited to the parties?
-
Lol yeah "shoot it at their heads"

I hate Tortorella but I also love him. Guy annoys me but also entertains me. Does that make sense?

Probably the biggest moment in Detroit history was ending this drought.

Can't lose this game with the 97 team in the house

Ahh the memories

Or a smart businessman. Generally top CEOs and GMs tend to surround themselves with the best. This seems exactly like what Toronto is doing atm. Lots of big names there.

This might just end up being a fluke year for them. Atkinson is having a career year. Foligno is an all star player and has been nearly a PPG player in the past. Not sure if I'd say he's elite but he has it in him. Bobrovsky is a former Vezina player, playing like one again this year. This could purely be a case of complete team effort and nobody having to carry each other. 9/10 times your elite players can carry you, but if you play as a complete squad and are cerebral on ice it can go a long way. Maybe it's Tortorella here.

When is Nill's contract up? Can we bring that guy?
-
Idk how Torterella is doing it but he needs to teach Blashill a lesson or two.

I like the reason for your post edit.

Yeah Yzerman looks good now but that's in hindsight with the Tampa Bay successes. Draper in hindsight might end up being good or bad, we won't know. I agree, if Holland was given the green light we could see a different GM approach. Maybe the problem is the constraints put on by the ownership for us to make playoffs.

I'm 100% going to plan all my Vegas trips (we go once a year) to make sure a Red Wings game is included one of the nights. Who wants to watch Criss Angel magic show when you can now watch HOCKEY.
-
All I know is that as an original 6 franchise, they better get a godamn good replacement. As much as I hate Toronto when they hired their new folks for their re-build they got some big guns in Shanny, Babcock, Lou. If people want Holland to go just for the sake of it, that's ridiculous. We HAVE to have a superior replacement, simple as that. Otherwise it's a dumb decision to let him go and likely will result in the team getting worse and worse.
-
That's the problem. People want the guy fired. (I want us to move on in 2018 and honor his contract), but who is actually going to do a job that meets fans' expectation? It's like Blashill/Babcock all over again. A lot of people wanted Babcock gone and now that we have a replacement in Blashill we see how much hate Blashill's getting. Even with a new GM, that doesn't take away all the contracts we're locked down with. If Kris Draper became our GM I would laugh my ass off to eternity. Love the player but not sure I see him as a GM yet.

It still is common knowledge, why do you assume it's not? Some people might not have paid attention at the time but those who did still remember. Some people forget and remember when it's talked about. It's not that serious. Google searching it popped up on my feed as a top link. A lot of news back then was still paper rather than online. Anything in the more modern internet era will stay around for ages.

I thought that was common knowledge?
