    What to do about Vanek

Read my post, I'm asking for trades where one side actually won (like the Wings did with Shanahan or Montreal did with Roy). Subban / Weber deal was one for one. Pretty much a stalemate. Each side had a major piece to contribute. That's like trading Seguin for Kane or something. Or Toews for Bergeron. Hall - Larsson seems lopsided but one team needed a D-man and had overstock of young players that couldn't get into the playoffs. Maybe that will be another "once in a blue moon" lopsided trade like the Seguin one was.. ? Someone previously was talking about how Holland is bad at trading. And my point is that it's not actually true. The guy just doesn't do much trading to begin with. And when he does, it's usually low risk. And my second point is, who actually in the league does bad trades? Once in a while maybe? Everyone is too smart to make the wrong move now. And when they do make moves, they have something worthwhile to give and receive.

Does anyone actually do significant trades now? Like when was there an actual trade that one side actually won? Seguin?

    Conflict in the Crease

The way this threads been going, it seems like there's a conflict in many folks' creases.

    Be honest..

Mantha's reach is his biggest advantage and I agree, he definitely knows it and uses it.

    Be honest..

I have to agree with Frank on this one. I just google searched "Power Forward" in ice hockey. And this is what Wikipedia says: In ice hockey, power forward (PF) is a loosely applied characterization of a forward who is big and strong, equally capable of playing physically or scoring goals and would most likely have high totals in both points and penalties. ---- ^ Looking at that, players that come into mind were Lindros, Shanahan, Howe, Tkatchuck, Bertuzzi, Lucic, Byfuglien, Thornton, Wheeler, Simmonds and Benn. This is just off the top of my head. I would not include, Franzen, Mantha in that definition. Because neither of them play/played physical games. They could be under the "power foward" group but they wouldn't be high on that list. I'd probably put Ovechkin above both because that guy can hit hard but he would much rather sit on the left side of the dot and take insane shots.

    Be honest..

I agree with your definition but I would also add that there are other elements to it, such as that of creating space by using their actual size. If you add that into the definition then guys like Eichel, Franzen, Kopitar, Mantha, Malkin, Vanek would all drop out. These guys are big but didn't really use their body to their advantage as the others did. Abdelkader is probably more of a power forward than Franzen was. While he's not as skilled of a scorer as Franzen, he's better at doing everything else in the definition. He's hard to defend, he creates a lot of space, and he drives the net. I mean just look at the phrase "power forward". The word "power" is there for a reason. Maybe it's more of a spectrum. One side of the spectrum has skill, the other side has power. I'd say Franzen falls towards the skill side and someone like Abdelkader falls towards the power side. Shanahan and Lindros would likely be rated high on both ends of the spectrum because they were THAT GOOD. 656 goals for Shanny and like 2500 PIM for fighting, making brutal hits, driving Patrick Roy insane. Decking people for messing with Yzerman. All around skilled powerforward.

12/1 GDT - Panthers at Red Wings - 7:30 PM EST

Now ya know what it feels like when people blame Howard (and Osgood before that) for every single thing even when it makes no sense... Welcome to the receiving end my friend. This will go on for a while.... For the record I think Mrazek has been playing a lot better than he did during his slump.

    Abdelkader out 2-4 weeks

He's not PPG. He's around 21 points in 24 games. On his team he's on the lower end among the top 6. Kovalchuk has like 51 points in 37 games. And the KHL is a much inferior league to the NHL with a weaker competition. The top players are usually far above 1 PPG in that league. 21 points in 24 KHL games would translate to a worse PPG in NHL level. Anyways, none of that matters, he's 38 years old and that's okay. My original point was having him would not make a difference at this point. It would just be $7.5 million dollar cap for another old guy that is slow and one of the most injury prone players. We already have a slow older player and we already have a roster full of injured players.

    Abdelkader out 2-4 weeks

I don't think we need him back. Datsyuk is not doing so hot in the KHL right now unfortunately. Although his team is doing amazing so I'm sure he likes the winning environment.

    Abdelkader out 2-4 weeks

For those that are hoping Blash/Holland get fired; long list of injuries for the Red Wings only gives management and coaching reason why we may not end up having a successful season.

$2000 says he'll never be the future Hasek. At best future Jonathan Quick or Carey Price--ish.

    Svechnikov's brother

Is he? All I ever hear about is Nolan Patrick. How high are you thinking? Speaking of the Svechnikov's is Evgeny not doing so hot in GR?

    Svechnikov's brother

Probably because realistically speaking, we aren't getting Nolan Patrick and people assume Svech's lil brother playing in Michigan might be an indication of him wanting to get drafted here.
