10 points = $ 1 million a rule I've heard from our very own LGW posters. By that equation then, 38-39 points from Helm. I won't be as critical and say that I'm expecting at least 30 from him and his new contract. Anything less will be disappointing. Unless the entire teams offense sucks again, then that's another story. So I'm looking for 30 points as well as for him to continue to do everything else he does. PK, speed, 3rd line center etc etc. No doubt he will continue to be good at the other stuff, the question is will he increase his scoring rate.

Well with no Wings players playing for Sweden, I'm glad they got whooped by our guys over in Team Europe.

Im not gonna lie the first thing I noticed on that list was that Helm wasn't on there.

Blashill's system resulted in lower scoring. Once that's taken care of then we can probably hope Vanek can hit those points.

50 points for Vanek. You guys might be in for a disappointment. How long you been watching the Wings? The line shuffling hasn't stopped since the early to mid 90s with Scotty Bowman.

I doubt they were warring with each other. They were best friends on and off ice and anyone who has been to games (and seen pre game drills) or public practices will tell you that they were. Sometimes during practices they were like little kids going at it with their own little drills goofing around and laughing. I was fortunate enough to witness a lot of this and take lots of snapshots since like 2003 if you're ever interested. And I think the Red Wings facebook page has a lot of stuff on there too. Lots of fun memories for those two along with fans.

Surgery is one of the worst case scenarios in medicine. Astute physicians try to do everything they can to avoid surgery and if there is no other way they resort to it. Surgery has a lot of risks and complications and it sounds like for him it's not a 100% chance of fixing it. Surgery can also create a lot of scar tissue which can lead to more pain, sometimes chronic. He's also suffering from arthritis which is not really curable. I suggest you look at it from his shoes. It's easier to tell someone else to go under the knife.
  8. Agreed about Joe Louis the boxer being on there

Yes. Datsyuk and Zetterberg NHL primes cut short because of his s***ty overusage and overburdening on certain players and his stupid defensive hockey. Hindsight I really am pissed about some of the stuff he put the guys through.Super professional, I respect him , and I loved him when he was here but really not a fan of some of the stuff looking back at it. Edit- but I also wasn't a fan of some of the stuff while he was here either. But because he was the coach at the time, it was tough to criticise him due to the respect factor.

If I'm not mistaken, during the 2014 olympics in Sochi, Datsyuk made a comment about Babcock in an interview. I don't remember where I read it but it was something along the lines of "Babcock isn't my concern" when they asked him about Babs. Not 100% sure though. I'm not home at the moment to look it up

Datsyuk primarily played with Hossa and Holmstrom about 267 TOI. Pure first line center with a first line winger. Second highest minutes played with Zetterberg and Cleary. About 162 TOI. Third highest with Franzen and Holmstrom about 153 TOI. Datsyuk has always been given the best options on the roster (only until recently when he played playing with Richards and "I guess" Helm). Abdelkader was the one Datsyuk pretty much wanted on his line. Datsyuk isn't a bulls***ter and one of the more honest players in the game so I take his word when he says he wanted Abby on his line. Not sure what he said about Helm though? I mean the Tatar - Datsyuk - Helm line was ridiculously good for a stretch last season so he must have liked it.

    All purpose Mike Babcock thread

I loved Babcock when he was here. I thought he was a great coach for the Wings. But. The Leafs are off to a worse start with Mike Babcock as their head coach than the last 5 seasons. Yes 5 seasons! The last time the had only 1 win in the first month of hockey was in 2009-2010 season when they went 1-7-4. This season their record for October is posted at 1-7-2 I can't help but scratch my head with this one folks. Also any other Babcock rant or praise is welcome. We talk about it enough in other threads maybe all that can be directed here to one thread instead I'd like to say that we will find out if Babs really IS the best coach in all of hockey. Sooner or later.

It does make you wonder though. Ken Holland has given some "higher paid" or "higher length" contracts for players he really wanted to keep this summer. When Babcock went to him and told him what Toronto offered him ($6 million), Holland didn't seem to budge on his $4 million dollar offer. If he really wanted him, you would think he would have matched the offer (it wouldn't have dented the Illitch's purse that's for sure)... I really do wonder if the players expressed issues about Babcock in their exit interviews with Holland. I mean, I don't know if Z and D would go and say "it's either us or him". But I wouldn't be surprised if they said "We would like a new voice, we think it's time for Babcock to move on"

    Darren Helm re-signed: 5 years, $3.85m AAV

Say that to Erik Karlsson the Norris Trophy winner. Hahahahahahahahah. Good catch didn't even notice that. I was wondering wtf that stat was about... This is almost as bad as Bill Berzeench and his issue with Miller.

Actually it does make sense if you look at the original quote. "Why it was time for Mike Babcock to leave the Red Wings: In exit interviews in different seasons before this one, both Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk told management they would not re-sign with the Wings if Babcock was still the coach." It says "in different seasons". It could have been anytime in the span of the 10 years that they played. I'm guessing Datsyuk must have said something when he signed the contract extension in 2013. Anyways, it's common knowledge that Babcock wasn't a player favorite. This just adds to the list of things.

Interesting. He's above Anze Kopitar, Kesler, Van Reimsdyk, Zucarello, Lucic on that list. So can we put the whole goal scoring argument to a rest then? He's scoring at similar rates to top players and makes less money or as much money. In fact, we should just bring this up the next time someone tries to use goal scoring as an argument against Abby's contract. 42 goals in 2 seasons. Higher rate than the names I listed. Contracts looking good so far from the looks of it.

Lol exactly, I bring up goals in the other thread and people get all defensive and talk about how goals isn't the only attribute, but when it comes to Abby he's judged PURELY by goal scoring. "20 goals or bust".

That's exactly what a 25 goal scorer is worth actually. Are you not keeping up with today's NHL? This isn't 1999 anymore.

He wanted to leave in 2014 while Babs was still coaching. That's what was mentioned in Holland's 45 minute press conference this summer.

Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

Came across this interesting bit of "info" Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun: While Mike Babcock was still coaching the Detroit Red Wings, during their exit interviews both Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk told management that they wouldn’t re-sign with the Red Wings while Babcock was still coaching the team. I don't even know what that means since both players we're already under contract. Unless it's referring to the contract Z signed in 2009 and Pav signed in 2013. http://mynhltraderumors.com/nhl-rumors-mike-babcock-detroit-red-wings-arizona-coyotes/2016/09/11/ http://www.torontosun.com/2016/09/10/encarnacion-will-be-in-high-demand-in-off-season

And it's been really bad this offseason too. For both fanboying for players and hating on players. Or getting offended when speaking truth about a player/situation.

So they finally made the details of Helm's contract public. Darren Helm has a No Trade Clause (NTC). And it's got a lot of details to it. http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2016/9/10/12867420/darren-helm-no-trade-clause-with-the-red-wings-is-weird
