I still hate Sansa for getting Ned Stark killed by ratting him out to Cersei. And because she got most of the wildlings killed by not telling Jon about Littlefinger's army. Could have avoided all those people from dying. And also the giant Wun Wun coulda lived. Why the giant? WHY HIM? GIANT LIVES MATTER. -

LOL. Oh boy. Okay. Kid doesn't even have 5 goals in the NHL yet and it's already an insult to compare him to Franzen. -

I will agree with that point. Long term these could bite us in the ass although if Howard gets moved or picked up by next year that would be nice. -

It doesn't matter we can only have a certain number of players on the active roster and who would be the upgrade anyways. Free agency sucks. And if a trade is happening we would be sending players the other way to shed salary. Would have been one thing if we had trouble signing Mrazek. Like I said, I'm more concerned about the term in case some of these players are busts. -

Trouba should just tell the Jets this. Anyone friends with Trouba in real life? Plenty of Michigan folks here. Convince the guy to try to come home. -

Who cares about overpayment now. Idk why ya'll are still hung up on that. Everyone has money and we're fine on cap. Mrazek and DK re-signed. The terms always piss me off to be honest. Hoping Neilsen turns out to be a beast of a replacement. -

It's too bad because we all know I'm Darren Helm. Hence I am the real one overpaid. -

I thought you were done talking about Helm's contract? Now you're just going to get the pro-Helm crew to talk about how great he is. Back to square one. But yes. Helm is overpaid. I think everyone on this board has acknowledged that. -

I've been rambling about usage around here for a few weeks. Blashill really needs to work on figuring out the best usage this upcoming season. Part of the reason we did so much worse last year than the year before (with practically a better team) was because of Blashill's usage issue. FFS split up Nyquist and Tatar. They were working well for a bit of a stretch but they were just no where near their peak for majority of the season. -

Meh I wouldn't blame Larkin's drop in production solely on him. The entire team hit a rough patch post all star break. Zetterberg, Mrazek, Datsyuk, Abdelkader all hit a wall. Some had it worse than others but they all definitely did. -
Whoever thinks Cleary was a bust probably has zero clue what "bust" means. And is likely equating typical "I hate Dan Cleary" narrative with the concept of being a "bust". Aside from winning a Stanley cup with us he also scored the OT game winner against Anaheim in 2009. Not to mention he had two 20 goal seasons, a 26 goal season and scored more points than Datsyuk did in the playoffs at least 3 different times. Also scored more goals than Zetterberg did in 2011. So it's not even "efforts". He actually produced better than our star players did at times. And not just one time. Multiple times. His last playoffs with the Red Wings was in 2012-2013 where he scored 4 goals and 10 points whereas Dats scored 3 goals 9 points. Both played exactly 14 games. So lol. Can't believe I just had to defend Dan Cleary. He might have been a washed up player for the last 3 or 4 years who no longer belonged in the line up, but the guy was no bust. He made a career here when the Red Wings gave him a chance. And he won a Stanley cup in the process. Not many people in the league can say that about themselves. And not many teams can say that about other players they give opportunities to. Usually when a team gives a chance to a player whose career is falling apart or declining, they end up being a bust. Not Dan Cleary though. That guy ended up winning a Stanley cup, recovering his falling career and went onto play 10 more seasons with a successful franchise.

Having said all that though, I think after Holland's contract is up in 2018, it's best for the Red Wings to part ways with him in the GM role. Much like coaches I think GMs also have somewhat of a limited time course with teams. As it stands, Holland is the longest acting GM for a team. Literally. No one else has been the GM of a team as long as he has since he was hired in 1997. The last one was Lou Lamoriello, who moved onto the Toronto last year. Obviously, I say only move on from Holland if there's a suitable replacement. Otherwise, he's still probably one of the best guys for the job. -

Well you're forgetting that when he brought Cole and Zidlicky we weren't trying to squeeze into the playoffs, we had a comfortable spot in the playoffs and were looking to make a deep run. It wasn't until the last like 20 or so games that we dropped the ball and kept losing the games. I remember people were calling the Zidlicky and Cole acquisition a curse jokingly. At the time the trade was made, it was actually meaningful and the majority didn't disagree because we we're in a good position. Before deadline we were around 35 - 15 - 11. Well above .500 team. And if I'm not mistaken we were 3rd or 4th in the conference. But after February and after acquiring Zidlicky and Cole, the team hit a slump. Partly because Howard was never the same after injury and that's when Mrazek came in. But even he was super inconsistent and got pulled 4-5 times. We ended the season with a record of 8 - 10 - 3. The problem is Holland gets blamed for a lot of stuff hindsight. But the truth of the matter is Cole and Zidlicky were aquired for a team that was 35 - 15 - 11, one of the top team in the conferences trying to make a legit deep playoff run. Legwand was purely because of the insane amount of injuries and the push for the playoffs. No GM is going to want to have a streak broken. That would be bad business. They make profit off this streak. And at the end of the day it's a business and entails revenue. We as hockey fans want wins, they as management and ownership want $$$$$$$$$ And as it stands if you ain't winning the cup (which is probably the best way to gain revenue), you can still make dough from keeping the streak alive. -

Legwand deal was to make sure they got into playoffs. I wouldn't blame Holland for Cole deal. Babcock wanted better players. We just got unlucky with Cole's injury. -

That's terrible. Hopefully he has a healthy recovery and continues his career for years to come. Wideman is probably s***ting his pants over a potential lawsuit if the ref doesn't recover. What an unfortunate series of events.

Off topic, but doesn't Yzerman's contract as GM end same time as Holland in two years? If so, that's a bit ironic. -

Lol we gotta find the DRG writer and send this to him. Found him on Twitter - Jeff Moss https://twitter.com/JeffMossDSR?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor And apparently this writer had the cops called on him by the Detroit Lions. Outstanding. http://thenewsherald.com/articles/2014/01/30/news/doc52eae1fd6fc91296914521.txt?source=jBar -
Fair enough. He isn't a good defender and his possession makes up for that lack of quality. I would agree with that assessment. No idea where the Subban not being a hybrid idea came from though, that was from joestuffp I believe. Subban has turned his defensive game up quite a bit over the years.
