You could say that but whenever I watch their game recaps, he tends screw up on his defensive zone assignments more often than Kieth/Doughty. Obviously his offensive game pushes him into that Norris category yearly though.

Don Zetterberg has his connections throughout the league. It seems The Swedish Mafia calls the shots for many coaches. Maybe that's why the Caps, Rangers and Stars all choked in the playoffs -
Some say the reason the Red Wings backed into the playoffs last year even though we lost our last game was because Don Zetterberg made a phone call to Erik Karlsson before the Ottawa vs. Boston game. Some say he made Karlsson an offer he couldn't refuse. The end result was 6-1 Ottawa allowing the Wings and the Swedish Mafia entry into the playoffs.

Lol at Dennis Wideman and Wisnewski

I agree Karlsson still has room for improvement

First Subban isn't all that good of a possession player so bad example.Second. Drew Doughty and Duncan Kieth are two of the best possession defenseman in the league and have accounted for 5 of the last 7 Stanley cups. For the millionth time, I suggest you look stuff about before blindly making anti-possession arguments. Watch how I'm about to make an actual anti-possession argument and actually open up a fair discussion. Karlsson is a great possession player but his career -22 speaks about his defense. To me it shows while he's good at keeping the puck away from the net- which no doubt is part of defense, he chokes when it comes to critical opposition scoring chances. Overal this brings his defensive skills down. Because although he's a good driver like you say, something isn't going well when he's forced to defend. Can't just follow possession metrics as end all be all in my personal opinion.

Lmao we should make a video of compilation of pics of the Red Wings Swedish mafia over the years with this music playing in the background. Then send it to the DRG wacko that released the article. Original Don Lidstrom (aka Vito) through the years and passing it onto Don Zetterberg (aka Michael). Makes sense, Vito was a way better Don than Michael was. -

Idk, something about Swedish Mafia Don influencing the future captain or something. Whatever caption pleases you. -
Even Trevor Thompson could play defense on him.

Dekeyser isn't a prospect

I don't think it's the wrong choice because we don't have any replacements. The difference between this signing and the Helm/Glendog is we don't have another 1D to take over. Time will tell.

Yeah to be honest I don't think management or coaches even see Ericsson or his contract as an issue. I think it's just us. The only contract they ever considered moving has been Howard and Datsyuk's. And of course Kindl. -
Well his first two years we're okay but last year he turned it up and did much better with 16 goals and 30 points. If he continues to get better then the contract will look like a steal. 30 points could be 40 or so a year 2-3 years from now. But it's certainly a low risk and could be a high reward contract for them. At age 24 he's getting towards his prime. If he was 30 and given a 6 year contract. Well. That's not so nice. Kind of reminds me of when Z was signed for like $2.5 million a year for 4 years and was tearing it up 2nd year into his contract around 25 or 26 years old. At the time Z was a third liner eventually promoted to 2nd line. Jankrok aint Z but who knows. Any sort of increase in production will make the contract look good. Alternatively if he reverts to scoring only 7 goals it will look s***ty.

Jurco and Pulk value is too low right now unfortunately. It's going to have to be Nyquist + a prospect like Mantha and maybe some high picks too... jeez. Holland would never do it. It's not his style. -

Nyquist + Mantha for Trouba. Throw in Pulkinen too. I think having a 1D is more important just my opinion though. -

I think the Jets need Wingers? Nyquist, Pulkinen, and 2 second round picks on the condition that Trouba re-signs with us. I personally have no idea. -
Now THIS is a good contract.

Mrazek avoids arbitration... signs 2 year deal

Mrazek avoids arbitration... signs 2 year deal
kickazz replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
He only went to arbitration because Mrazek wanted like $5 million. Holland requesting arbitration brought Mrazek back down to earth. Holland gets full credit on this one to be honest. We were the only team in the league to file arbitration AGAINST a player rather than the usual players filing against the team. We did well. Not to mention Mrazek will be an RFA after this contract is up too. This is a perfect win-win for us. -
So Holland > Lamoriello then. Nice

Dekeyser deal was great. He's not replaceable within the system. Same with Mrazek. And that's why Nielsen's deal is justified, we had no 1st/2nd line center and needed one. There's some players where you really can't pass up. DK, Mrazek are those players. You have to do what you can to keep them. If there's a player replaceable, signing them again will definitely be heavily analyzed over the years. Because if they turn out to be a bust or the contract is unmovable, or if they're blocking a player from playing, that's when the whole "Well you didn't have to sign them to begin with" narrative starts. Even if DK turns out to be a bust, the justification to the anyone bitching about it will be "well he was a good signing at the time and it would have been stupid not to". I say that even now about Ericsson. Holland is in no way at fault for signing Ericsson. He was a promising top 4 defenseman and him and Kronwall we're really good together in 2013, there was absolutely no reason not to sign him. It just looks bad in hindsight. Same with Howard's contract. We didn't have any goalie to replace Howard. But we can definitely garner up players to replace, Miller, Ott, Glendening and even Helm.
