That's the point of arbitration. It will prevent them getting overpaid long term. Holland filed for arbitration against Mrazek because he's smart. And Mrazek probably wanted a 6 or 7 year deal with ridiculous amount of money.DK is priority imo because he's a proven defender. I'm hoping Mrazek actually does go to arbitration because he's still inconsistent and I don't think he deserves any big time contract just yet.

Jamie Benn's contract was a steal imo. Just look at how over paid Toews is. The guy can't even score 60 points a year and gets $10.5 million. Benn just had two seasons of about 90 points and something like 40 goals this year. Honestly if there's any contract signed with superstars, the first one I look at is Toews and compare the rest. All of Kopitar, Stamkos, Benn are getting paid less and do more. -
Henrik Zetterberg and Dylan Larkin as Sherlock Holmes and Watson in Sherlock Holmes movies. Johan Franzen as The Untertaker in WWE (not a movie but I guess TV show) Pavel Datsyuk in any comedy movie. Henrik Zetterberg in "The Revenant" Peter Mrazek in remake of The Godfather as younger Vito Carleone. Brenden Smith in Zoolander doing something stupid

Consider that Doug Houda is our new defensive coach. I imagine he should have a pretty good impact on the defensive core. Hopefully Ericsson's play improves under the guy. -

Yep. The Helm and Glendog signings could hamper the signings next year but if Howard is moved or picked up by Las Vegas, things should be fine. Of all the goalies made available, Howard should be the best on available for the Vegas franchise. I just don't see Ericsson's contract being moved though. -

The defensive lineup is basically no different than last year. Marchenko is basically Quincey but without Quincey's "grit" but probably a better passing ability. In conclusion, I still want a better defensive core before october. -

Miller is not getting waived dude. In their eyes he's more valuable than Larkin probably. #cuzblockshots -

I certainly think players need to earn their ice time. That theory is not incorrect. The issue I have is some of them already have earned it but didn't get it last year. If AA doesn't make the squad I'll be pretty pissed. The guy definitely deserves to be in the line up by all eye ball tests and math freak metrics. Mantha imo has earned a shot too. I don't know about full time but he definitely should be spending the time up with the big club than down in GR. It should be a major transition year for him this upcoming season like it was for AA last season. If he ends up spending a bulk of the time down in GR that's pretty sad. -
That's exactly why the Wings filed for arbitration rather than the other way around. They're hoping for a short lower term deal most likely. Credit to Holland if it works out.

Signed Glendening signs 4-year, $1.8m AAV extension

Same. Only because I want to see if Blashill uses Nielsen for who he is. And what he is, is a top 6 shutdown centerman. BTW that's also the good thing about the Nielsen signing, he hasn't regressed much (actually his scoring went up) and only missed like 7 games in the last 5 years or something insane. Also Nielsen at age 32, 33, 34 = Crosby/Kopitar 29, 30, 31 and Ovechkin 31, 32, 33 Top players are all aging together. Of course there's the new speedy crew of McDavids, Eichels and Mathews. But we also have a Larkin. -

Even Glen "dog" might be offensive to the guy lol. Let's put a cute spin on it and call him something else. Glenpooch. -

I'll also add that last year Glendog actually didn't matchup against opponent top lines all that much. Especially not when Datsyuk came back from injury. The few times he was matched up against top players was against Stamkos in the regular season games where he did a good job. The other time Glendening was matched up against a top line was against Alexander Ovechkin (who managed to get 15 f****** shots on goal and break the godam shot record on Mrazek). And guess what Blashill did the next game against the Caps... Didn't put Glendog against Ovie's line lol. Ended up putting Datsyuk's line against Ovie. -

This is another reason why I don't agree with people who think Glendog is extremely valuable. Much like Zetterberg in the 2000s, Frans Nielsen is the type of player that will draw the toughest matchups and score a crap ton too (obviously not as much as Z did). Nielsen is also an excellent penalty killer. (one of the most used players on PK) Signing Nielsen makes players like Glendening theoretically obsolete. But obviously management still wants to utilize Glendog and help share Nielsens burden. Which might be a decent idea. What makes me happy about the Nielsen signing is we will finally see another top 6 player when theres 1 minute left to play the game in the 3rd to try to hold onto the lead instead of Miller or Glendog who for the life of them can't keep the puck away from out net and are forced to block shots. ....And when Howard is in goal we get scored on and everyone on LGW collapses. I'm thinking a combo of Nielsen, Glendog (for the faceoff), Abdelkader/Larkin to help close out games. Unless Zetterberg magically starts winning 54% of faceoffs again then we'll likely see him over Glendog on the faceoff circle. There were times last year when Blashill opted to put Datsyuk on the faceoffs in the 3rd rather than Glendog because Datsyuk went through a stretch where he was destroying everyone on the faceoff circle. -

Nielsen is a player put against top players. That's his job. He drew the toughest matchups for the Islanders. So the answer is Nielsen. http://www.lighthousehockey.com/2010/7/20/1577993/grading-the-islanders-frans (bit of an older article but it still stands) -

This isn't a Glendog issue- it's a management issue mostly. The log jam is basically becoming a long term one. It will be interesting to see how we deal with all our players who are no longer waiver eligible this year and next year. -

I don't think there is any. Capfriendly has his updated to no NMC/NTC. Only Helm is listed as a questionmark on the NMC/NTC -
Well with Glenny locked in - I'd say he makes a good case for A. He's a Michigan Wolverine and Abby is a Spartan. I'm voting for the Wolverine.

Sounds like it. I know Datsyuk has inoperable knee issues too. Kronwalls could be worse though.
