$1.8 million isn't a big deal. The sum of the parts is what concerns me. Including Nielsen, Howard and Ericsson like you say.

If we miss the playoffs in 2017, these long term contracts will automatically look even worse.

Would be fine if this team was a contender. Sort of like when we kept Draper and Maltby. If things get even worse a lot of these contracts are long term and will be unmovable. I think keeping Luke for 2 more years and then judging to see if a re-signing is valuable to the squad would have been the better approach. Safe approach. It seems like Holland is going all in for a lot of the current players and it's very risky management.

Right I agree with you. Holland is still the governing body if you know what I mean. If something seems off he can step in if needed. He said it in an interview last year that ultimately Babcock was allowed to make those decisions but he does talk to him about it.

So essentially even if Z wanted Andersson and went to Blashill and told him. Ultimately it's upto Ken Holland. In that regard I debunk the theory. Unless Z is more convincing than Vito Corleone there is no way in hell one man can convince an entire coaching staff and the management staff to bring up a bad player. It starts with management. Blashill's job is to use the line up given to him. Holland's job is to send players up and down. Still was a good read though. The detroitsportsrag one I mean. Seemed like the Swedes were the Avengers working behind the backs of the American Gov for the greater good or somes***. Zetterberg as Captain America, Kronwall as Thor, Ericsson as Antman. Jeff Blashill as Nick Fury

To be honest, I thought Andersson was actually pretty decent in the playoffs. He made the sick play for AA's goal in game 3. Call-ups are dependent on the GM. Looking at this off season thus far, with the contracts of Miller, Glendening, Helm and signing of Ott, you shouldn't be surprised why Andersson was called up for playoffs. If anything, this offseason is making me understand why Andersson was called up. Holland doesn't believe that young kids are the answer. I'm not going to say if he's right or wrong - that's another topic but the man favors veterans more than youth (extremely favors them). Andersson is simply one piece of the puzzle of the Red Wings way of doing things.

Well in that case he's da number 1! If it was player I would have said top 10 maybe a few years ago but now nahhh. Coach? He's so good he shouldn't even be listed as top 10. Should have his own damn title as a legend.

Glendening signs 4-year, $1.8m AAV extension

This team hasn't gotten past the 1st round in three years and we're resigning the same players until the year 2021. All of Helm, Glendog, Abdelkader, Ericsson contracts are way too long. (can't blame anyone for Ericsson contract- he was expected to be a good top 4 D-man) Kenny is doing bad guys. Still not a hater but legitimately calling him out. It's not Glendog or maybe even his individual contract that's a huge problem. It's the sum of all parts. Right now the team is built around Helm, Ericsson, Glendog, Abdelkader, Nielsen for the next 4-5 years. Yikes... http://www.generalfanager.com/teams/detroit-red-wings

He is like Draper in many ways. The good thing with Draper was we could afford to keep re-signing him because we had an elite team. He was always low risk for us (and very very high reward). The difference now is the team has been on regression for a while. If we had our 2008 team re-signing Glendog to 4 years would probably be brushed aside. But we are a team that just backed into the playoffs last year. Every contract signed will come under scrutiny from fans. "Is this needed to become a good team again"? And all those questions etc. Imo 4 years is too much. Should have given 1-2 years and see where the team stands. But we are slowly getting locked with the same exact team that lost the first rounds of playoffs three years in a row.

There was more than one game played in this series and more than 1 win needed to win the series. Even if you blame the game 4 loss to glendening leaving injured it still doesn't explain the fact that Johnson lit us up before and after than game too. (Game 2 and 6). And it's a bad comparison because Glendog vs Johnson ended up leading to Johnson still being the Tampa hero while Zetterberg vs Crosby in 2009 led to Malkin winning the conn smythe. But you can overrate Glendening if you want. In a world where Manny > Ozzy I guess anything is possible lol.

I'm not saying Glendenning didn't help against Johnson but one injury (he came back to play btw) doesn't add up to your narrative. On the other hand the reason I responded to your post because you just tried to compare Glendog to Zetterberg vs Crosby. Enough with overrating the guy. I have no issues with Glendog the issue is his usage and I guess now the pay. Overpaid.

First of all, I'll just start of by being completely blunt. You're wrong. I've had enough of people trying to push a narrative on Glendenning that he somehow shutdown Tyler Johnson in 2015. Tyler Johnson single handedly destroyed the Red Wings in the 2015 playoffs while Steven Stamkos was nowhere to be found. Game 2 - Tyler Johnson scored 2 goals Game 4 - Tyler Johnson scored 1 goal to help tie the game AND the game winner in OT Game 6 - Tyler Johnson scored 2 goals Oh and uh Glendening played in all 7 playoff games. Lets stop trying to give the guy more credit than he actually deserves and for the love of maurice richard's shot don't compare him to 2008 Zetterberg lol. Glendog is a 4th line shutdown forward with pretty good faceoffs numbers. There's nothing more or less to it.

    Revisiting the 2011 Entry Draft

Idk how much these guys weighed when they were drafted. I have their rookie cards from their first season in the NHL.Kronwall is listed at 165 lbs in his 2003 card, so he had even an larger weight gain of 30 lbs (he also weighs 195lbs). so theoretically Hronek could get upto the standard 200lbs if he wanted to.

    Revisiting the 2011 Entry Draft

Normally I'd agree with you about the weight gain point, but there are some exceptions to this depending on the player. If I'm not mistaken, both Datsyuk and Zetterberg gained a good amount of weight and maxed out at a good level (around 195 lbs) for their height to maintain their speed. Best case scenario I see him get upto 185 lbs max. The advantage with these guys is the plethora of training/trainer options they have. Most of it comes down to how committed they are. edit - yep my Zetty rookie card from 2002 has him listed at 176 pounds. 20 pounds gain looks like.

    Revisiting the 2011 Entry Draft

Yeah it wasn't big. I think the biggest one this decade has been the 2015 draft. I didn't think 2016 was all that good either. But I guess we'll find out in 5 years.

    Revisiting the 2011 Entry Draft

Anyways, I think it's fair to assume that our 2011 draft pick from the 7th round has been the most successful thus far. Seems it really is a lot about luck.

    Who should get A?

No cuz we suck and Toronto is going to with the Cup in 2 years. But if Mathews came here we should give him A over Larkin
