    Revisiting the 2011 Entry Draft

He's saying North Americans we picked aren't tough. It's true, seems like the old days of tough North American players are winding down. We're getting too soft. Larkin is all skill no toughness. Same with McDavid, Kane, Toews, Eichel jeez so many. Starting to look like toughess and American/Canadan no longer applies in modern day hockey. McKinnon showed promise when he decided to take Ericsson though. Should bring that Frenchy Roussel here. He's tougher than our stud Canadian Sheahan

    Who should get A?

What if Larkin's dads dream was for his son to play for the Maple Leafs? Then we scroood.

    Pulkkinen re-signs with a 1 year deal

He could be good deadline trade bait if needed. Not re-signing a recent prospect for cheap would have been dumb. Should never let your picks walk away unless you can get something in return.

    Pulkkinen re-signs with a 1 year deal

Deserves a shot to make line up no doubt. Just dont see it being a good year for him spending half of it on LTIR and all summer won't be training.

Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

Honestly don't mind keeping him one more year. Mrazek still isn't fully consistent. Howard will come in handy if there's any hiccup in Mrazek's play. He certainly did at the end of last season. This year I'd prefer them just stick with one goalie though rather than try to rotate things. Only use Howard is Mrazek is struggling and needs relief.

    Tyler Bertuzzi goal.. Savage lol

Did you not watch the Datsyuk clip he posted or did you decide to completely ignore it lmao.

    Who should get A?

Not the alumni game. I believe it was at the actual Winter Classic game straight up lol.

    Tyler Bertuzzi goal.. Savage lol

I don't think it's anything. I never saw Datsyuk get called for it. He used to slash away at players sticks quite a bit. But he was always subtle so idk.

    Revisiting the 2011 Entry Draft

Filip Hronek the 6 foot lightweight. That's the dude.
  12. If he continues in the same role it's not going to go well as far as finishing contract is concerned.

    Revisiting the 2011 Entry Draft

Yeah it's basically gotten to the point where even the smallest difference in drafted picks brings about an insane amount of blacklash. We picked a 5'11 guy in the 4th round (just throwing it out there not sure exactly who was picked in 4th) and I immediately saw complaints about "HAHAH there we go picking a midget again!" In reality we have no idea how they'll turn out. All we can go with is the ranking system given to them by the scouts and analysts. The other thing one can do is look up their prospect videos on youtube and judge for yourself. But even then all you can tell is how that prospect did in the league he played in. We still wouldn't have any idea if he can translate into the NHL level. Alternatively you could watch the development camp scrimmage and see how the prospects faired against other players. I liked what I saw from a couple of them and if they can translate it into NHL level it would be great. There were a few of then that I felt would be NHL ready in a couple years. But no one knows what's going to happen between now and "a couple years" If someone asked me who had the best shot of making the team in a few years out of all of our draft picks from this year, I'd probably say Givani Smith. He seemed the most consistent in the development camp videos I saw. But that's not even the main reason, his game is something we lack. He's a big net front presence/powerforward scorers and we basically only one of those (Abdelkader).
  14. It's probably more of a 7 hour commitment. It's about 2:45 hour flight to the place and then consider his travel back from his daughters home, which is another 2:45 hour flight. Add another 2-3 hours of total customs and sitting around to board. Comes up to 7-8 hours of travel commitments. I think realistically the guy will probably go from seeing her maybe 3 times a year to probably 15 or so times a year. No way in hell do I think an athlete has time to travel 7-8 hours every week without his team lol. It's a win-win situation for Datsyuk. Gets a chance at winning a KHL championship, gets to see his daughter more often. What I don't understand is why we need to justify his actions. The guy blatantly said his dream is to finish his career in Russia. "I have unfinished business with Russian Olympic team" "It's time for my family to go home". "It's best for my family and I to go home". Ken Holland "His heart isn't here anymore" Datsyuk isn't innocent for not honoring the contract but he's not a ****** either for wanting to go home. Can we steer back to topic at hand though
  15. Can we all just agree that he went back home for two primary reasons? 1. Wanted to be a lot closer to daughter 2. Wanted to play in the KHL with a really good team
  16. Yeah looks pretty convincing. He must have had his suspicions and tried to keep with bonuses. At the same time though, it's not a surprising management decision since Datsyuk was leaning towards going back home around the 2012 lockout. I was actually really surprised he signed a 3 year extension in 2013. When he came out in 2013 and said his dream was to finish his career in Russia, I was assuming it would he at the age of 36 not 38 lol.

    Revisiting the 2011 Entry Draft

So with out 24th pick Ottawa got Mathew Puempel and with their 35th and 48th picks we got Jurco and Oullet. I like the decision management made. I like what I saw from Oulette. Jurco has been a "disappointment" but I'd rather have him than Mathew Puempel looking back at it.
  18. The signing bonus? I'm pretty sure a lot of post 2013 lockout contracts have those. Could be wrong.
  19. My bad it's Global Climate Change. The guy blamed still the same though.
  20. Same people bothered by the trade would have called for Holland's head because we would be stuck with $7.5 million cap hit and no Vanek or Nielsen. It's hard to support anti-Holland crew when they blame him for everything from contracts to Global Warming. Datsyuk wanted to leave? Must be Hollands fault.
  21. Agreed. That's why I called Fedorov a bit of a "Drama queen" The 98 story is a good one as well. And I can see why people in management maybe didn't "trust" Fedorov enough to bring him back in 08. As fans maybe we might have wanted to bring him back but as management and coaches it's those guys who make the financial and on-ice decisions. And at the end of the day it's a business and as businessmen and coaches they make decision that they think are right. And it seemed like it was probably a good decision seeing as how we ended up winning the 2008 cup without him.
  22. He himself admitted to knowing about the 35+ rule in his exit interview. I think you are like me in that you were more hurt over the Fedorov situation. I was pissed at Fedorov for almost a decade. (I only got over it last year). The Datsyuk situation bothered me too, but not nearly as much as Fedorov. Probably because I loved Fedorov and had a man crush on him. Just my side of it though.
  23. You're obviously bias towards Datsyuk. His situation is much MUCH worse on paper than Fedorov's whether you like to admit it or not. Fedorov didn't handicap us by wanting to leave in the middle of a contract. He left as a free agent because he's allowed to. Datsyuk wanted to leave the Red Wings within the first year of his contract in 2014. It took a lot of convincing from Ken Holland and Mike and Marian Illitch to get him to play for 2 more years and at one point the Red Wings management basicaly threatened to sue Datsyuk in a lawsuit for trying to walk out on his contract. They basically cut a verbal deal that if he honored the contract for the 2015 season he was free to go. I'm obviously "pro Retire #91, #13 and #40" But I'm not going to try to make excuses for Fedorov or Datsyuk. Nor am I going to try to make their situation worse than some others make it to be. The facts are facts guys. Datsyuk didn't honor the contract and Fedorov was a bit of a drama queen and bailed. The question is does management forgive them (it seems like they have) and if we as fans can move past it.
