Assuming we don't include GR people then I'd say we're about the same. Nielsen replaces Datsyuk. Vanek replaces Richards. I think. I'll ponder on this some more.
-
Lol seriously. What are we saying this year squad is hypothetically? No Mantha and AA to start season?
-
I don't even know what our squad is this year lol.
-
The issue may be the terms not necessarily the money.

Neither. I'm starting to think Fowler is overrated. -

Yeah because when you make random posts with "This group is better than another group because I said so" is a better way of analysis right? Take a look. Oh wait that was you. Tons of context here. My eyes are bewildered. Awesome. Amazing. Cool. You've convinced me. Screw analytics. -

Signed Steve Ott signs 1 year, $800k deal with Detroit

So let's get it back on track. Apparently the NHL.com website already started selling Red Wings Steve Ott jerseys. Except they had his number 9 on it..... http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2016/7/6/12105924/nhl-com-fail---if-you-want-a-steve-ott-jersey-it-ll-have-the-number-9-on-it -

Indeed. Age of consent is 16 in Michigan. So unless they were 15 or younger, technically McCarty hadn't done anything illegal even if all that info is true. Fun fact, age of consent is 14 in Hawaii. -

Anyways moving on from the rants. For those that are interested. If you're not into advance stats, this doesn't apply to you. -

Advanced analytics aren't used for scouting, It's used for NHL players. I feel like you have zero grasp of what this conversation is about. -

Apparently meeting halfway doesn't happen anymore. This is pointless. -
Can't anymore because he filed for arbitration and if it gets to the hearing he will only get a one year deal. That's why I said DK is playing it smart. But yea hopefully before it even gets there (august i think?) he ends up signing a contract.

Imo it's better to use them when comparing two equal players. For instance comparing Nyquist vs Tatar or Kopitar vs Toews. You wouldn't want to compare Smith to Lidstrom because it wouldn't be a fair comparison given one played 28 minutes a night while the other plays 15 or less. It's also a good way to see how a player contributed to his team. -

"Us long time hockey fans"? You think using stats and being a long time hockey fan are mutually exclusive? Stats are being used by the NHL coaches and management who have been in the business for decades. It was invented by "long time hockey fans" themselves.Meet the guy who invented the corsi stats. He's 62 years old. Currently the goalie coach for the Blues. Former hockey player himself https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Corsi_(ice_hockey) Perhaps it's not the stats and people who look into it that's the issue but rather the people who completely disregard it and play ignorant to Information. It's quite simple. When someone makes claims that a player is "bad" just because he says he is, people are going to pull out stats to prove them wrong. The whole "stats" movement started BECAUSE people come up with nonsense claims about players being "really good" or "really bad" just because they have an issue with said player or try to overrate a player. And now that there's stats around to prove otherwise, all of a sudden it's "well the stats are wrong". This reminds me of the stories of scientists proving the earth isn't the center of the solar system rather the Sun is. Of course the Church thought it was blasphemy because "eye ball tests told them the earth was the center of everything" These stats are only meant to serve as supplemental information. It's not black and white. -
Well if he signed a long term deal now it would be something like 5 million per year since he's still an RFA. If he files for arbitration he will get a 1 year deal and then turns into a UFA next year, and he'll immediately be eligible for a lot more money. The Wings will end up re-signing him for 6-7 million per year after this year ends. DK playing it smart. Only has one year as an RFA and probably wants his long term deal to start when he turns 27 (UFA eligible) See what I'm sayin?

Advanced metrics shouldn't be the "be all end all". It's just an alternative way of looking at things that you can't see with your eye balls. How coaches use it is up to them. The really good players are those that maintain amazing numbers with tough minutes. This is why Datsyuk and Zetterberg and Lidstrom were amazing in their primes. Their numbers were great even when they played tough minutes thoughout the season. -

That's exactly how Mickey Redmond feels about the +/- stat. Whines about it at least 6 times in a season. -

It won't be. Kids hated algebra in grade school and it followed them into adulthood. Parents hated kids on their computers in the 90s and now use it to do their taxes every year. Millenials sit on their phones and text their friends as their parents told them to get off their phones. Ironically it's those same parents who now use those phones and download apps to make their work easier for them. Doctors using Updodate on their phones in between patients for instance instead of carrying a pocket medical dictionary (because who wants to carry a book?) Technological and mathematical advances will never go away. They only continue to grow. It's up to us whether we want to use it or not. There are a lot of coaches looking into advance metrics and the Red Wings will follow suit. I'd get used to it. Not only is it a great idea, but if you don't (use analytics), you're going to fall behind," Babcock told NHL.com. "You have to be on the cutting edge. http://www.foxsports.com/detroit/story/advanced-metrics-becoming-part-of-hockey-102114 -

Dekeyser may head for arbitration. Looks like he's trying to get only a one year deal so he can become UFA and get the big bucks he would be eligible for next year. Helene St. James (@HeleneStJames) 3 hours ago - View on Twitter Red Wings except defenseman Danny DeKeyser to file for arbitration. Would be one year because UFA next summer.
