Vasilevsky is just as good as Ben Bishop? Lmao. By what stats exactly? GAA? Save %? Wins? Wait you think Larkin is a top 6 center? Oh boy. Ok show me all the NHL games he played top 6 center and how his numbers were from face off to possession. Do you even remotely know what you're talking about? Or are you picking out notes from a bowl and just reading random things?

Lol. IF ONLY the Wings had MORE players that would demand to play center. We have zero top 6 centers. I think you just listed the primary reason why the Red Wings might throw money at Stamkos.

Getting rid of a potential Vezina winner might be the dumbest thing they do.

I don't think you entirely understand Tampa Bays situation. This year they have to re-sign Killorn, Kucherov, Stamkos who will get paid quite a bit. Others lesser paid will be Namestnikov, Paquette, Brown, Nesterov. Next year they have to resign Drouin, Palat, Johnson (hello big money), Hedman (biggg pay day), Bishop (contract might be bigger than his frame). They have $18 million this year to resign people. If they throw $10 million at Stamkos that leaves 8 million to resign Killorn, Kucherov and the rest of the RFAs. There simply is NOT enough money for this team to re-sign people. Stamkos is the common denominator here. If they want to retain the team that went to the conference finals this year, Stamkos might be the guy who walks while everyone else is resigned.

$8.5 mill x 8 from Tampa = $68 million $10.5 mill x 7 from Detroit or Buffalo = $73.5 million More money in one less year. Not saying it would happen but just showing the potential. Let's get even more obnoxious. $11 mill x 7 from Detroit or Buffalo = $77 million. Almost $10 million more in one less year. Of course if Yzerman went all ham and offered $10 x 8 years that would be $80 million so Tampa wins. Toronto is screwed with taxes so his pay might be even less over there. They would have to pay him $11.5 to equal the same amount of money as what Detroit or Buffalo would offer at $10 million.

LTIR so it won't affect the cap space. We're good.

Imagine if this situation consisted of Howard instead of Datsyuk. Jimmy would have to hire the secret service to protect him.

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

If you watch the press conference with Holland, he literally brought up Datsyuk's contract and how he wanted to leave right away about 5 or 6 times. It's as though he was pushing it on the media. Fans react to the information they are given, Holland could have easily downplayed the situation. But it seems like he wants people to know that the organization got f***ed (but at the same time he's playing Mr. Nice Guy). Who to blame is left to interpretation. Some might say Greenstein the agent, some might say Datsyuk, others might say Holland. In a 45 minute press conference you would think Holland would focus on Datsyuk's career as a Wing. Nope. Only brought it up twice. The rest of the time was spent on contract issue. The other thing is, when someone would ask him a question not necessarily related to the backstory of the contract, he would go BACK to it and bring it up lol.

That argument doesn't make sense Frank. LA was well rested the year before this and ended up choking these playoffs. I'd still put my money on Crosby/Malkin/Kessel. They have 3 lines that are better than most top 6 lines.

Here's the entire press conference from Holland about Datsyuk for those who want to watch. It's 45 minutes long. He talked about everything that went down from when they signed the contract extension in 2013 to now and possibilities of moving contract. https://www.nhl.com/redwings/video/ken-holland--media-618/t-278867578/c-44233203

You're mistaken here. Datsyuk wanted to leave in 2014 season. His ankle got injured after in 2015. The injury has nothing to do with him going home, it's always been about his daughter/family.

Lol it's people like you who overrate Toews. Hhahahah. Jeez man. Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Tavares, Kopitar, Datsyuk are all better centers than Toews. Want to know what's funny? An injured Datsyuk is better than Toews by all stats and eyeball tests too.

Sadly, I can see them not retiring his jersey because he failed to honor his contract. I don't think there's been any franchise player in the Red Wings history who failed to honor their contract. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Was that you who posted something? It's been going on in multiple threads. I posted an article about Babcock hinting at him not being interested in Stamkos. Anyways, my post was mostly talking about LGW in general not you. Folks were talking down about Babs for months last year and how he's the reason Detroit can't acquire free agents and blah blah, and now that he's there it's as though Toronto > Detroit. The teams you mentioned can't even make the playoffs right now. How can you say you would take them over the Wings lol. In order to win a cup, you first have to be able to qualify for the playoffs. Edmonton with all their picks just can't seem to get it done.

No. People have predicted that Chicago will be screwed down the road in the future. Basically from here on out. I don't know anyone who said they would be screwed 2-3 years ago. Toews and Kane were locked in 2014. Chicago won the cup twice before both of their contracts were made. So no, they haven't found a way to get it "done" every year. Their troubles are only yet to begin. Starting with having to get rid of Bickell for a high price, having to re-sign Shaw, and eventually Panarin. All their "top" players are locked until 2021. And it looks as though Pittsburgh is the type of team to spoil their party. Chicago got knocked out first round this year and next year even if they make it far, I don't see them beating the Caps or Pittsburgh. They're essentially locked up with a roster until 2021 and there's not much they can do to change it. So either win with it or be stuck with it. Whereas the Caps and Pittsburgh can still keep adding a lot of pieces to get better. Not to mention both Caps and Penguins have BETTER players for cheaper.

No seriously though the point of Toronto. I know a lot of Toronto fans that live in the area here and I haven't met one that's overly optimistic about their future but here we have Red Wings fans speaking on their behalf talking about how they'll be a cup contender in a few years. The grass is greener on the other side I guess. Funny how when Babcock was here he was an issue. But not that he's there, Toronto is going to be amazing.

I find it interesting that there's people already predicting Toronto to be some big shot team in like 2 years. Isn't McDavid still considered the best 1st round draft pick of the decade? I don't think Mathews is considered to ever be as good as McDavid is projected to be. From what I've heard he's more of a Jack Eichel type of pick. Anyone have insight on this? Stamkos, Mathews, Bozak, Kadri. Nylander. Froese, Gauthier. Apparently the trick is to stack up on Centers.

Neither did Ozzy. Next to Montreal Canadiens the Red Wings are the most critical of their goalies and expect a lot from them. Terry Sawchuck's legend still has a lasting effect on our egos.

But the thing is that by the time our young players are due for big raises, most of our contracts (except Zetterberg, Abdelkader and Ericsson) will be finished. So as old contracts are up, new ones will begin. Take a look at 2017-18 season for instance, the project money spent is $45 million only. 2018/19 season we'll have $34 million towards contracts. I think we're in a better position than Chicago is. Our turnover is much more smooth. I think by the time Larkin, Mantha and AA start making big money we'll have plenty of cap space opening up. Chicago is screwed because they threw out big contracts to Kane, Toews, Hossa, Keith while guys like Panarin, Shaw are almost immediately eligible to get new contracts. Their turnover sucks. As far as Stamkos, I think $10 million is the highest I would feel comfortable with. I think $9 million won't be enough in this market. There's no way he'd get paid less than Anze Kopitar (who is less than a 30 goal scorer) but more of a 2 way forward.

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

Lmao I don't think so. In this country if Holland says a lie like that , Datsyuk and the former agent Greenstein could sue his ass for false information to public. If you watch the full press conference (50 minutes long though), Holland also mentioned that Datsyuk confided with Henrik Zetterberg about it in 2013 as well. That's way too many names Holland would be "bulls***ting" about. It's sounds like Datsyuk, Greenstein (old agent who Pav dropped), Milstein (new agent), Holland, and Hank knew about the situation for years now. I'm not blaming Holland for this at all. I think Datsyuk should consider himself lucky that the organization didn't take action against him for not honoring the contract. Instead, he left on a good note and Holland thanked him for his time here. That's that.
