Powerplay goals scored percentage in career thus far for some notable players: Steve Yzerman - 29% PP goals out of all goals scored. Joe Sakic - 32.8% PP goals out of all goals scored. Henrik Zetterberg - 33.8% PP goals out of all goals scored. Gustav Nyquist - 32% PP goals out of all goals scored. Steven Stamkos - 34% PP goals out of all goals scored. Alexander Ovetchkin - 37% PP goals out of all goals scored. We should have been more worried about Zetterberg than Nyquist and his "he can only score on the power play" idea. Or how about not Because to me it seems like Nyquist right around the average among the names mentioned. Additionally he only has a few seasons under his belt so it's too early to judge either way. But as of now his overall numbers are pretty standard.

Not sure what Nyquist will do with himself when Z ends up being put on a line with Pav For the record i like that fact that Nyquist is excellent on power play. Most high end goal scorers tend to be.

Been back and forth about this but I think points will be Zetterberg. Datsyuk is sort of injury prone now. Always seems to get random issues.. Whether its knee, ankle, shoulder etc. Z's only real issue WAS his back otherwise he doesn't get injured. I'm assuming he plays most of the season and produces around 70 Pts. Goals I'm imo will be Tatar. PPG leader will be Datsyuk.

Nice. I also think Tatar can continue to increase his 200 foot game since he has the potential for it. If he can do this then I don't see why Richards and him can't work together. Seems like he's learning well from our top two guys. -

I guess we can pick and chose what defense means. So Abby would count too. Personally I'd put Tatar before Kane for defense. He skates hard on the backcheck. Kane is more of a puck possesor But I'm with mrazekfanboy on his overall point. That being said if Tatar and Richards can work together to maintain offense and defense then why not. It's just easier when you have a Datsyuk or Z who can handle almost 100% of defense responsiblity. If Tatar and Richards can work together to sum up a defense then i guess why not. They've already shown that they immediately had offensive chemistry. -

Our only two good defensive top 6 forwards are Zetterberg and Datsyuk btw. Its not like we're stacked with them. And i thought richards was 3C for chicago not 2C? -

Kane is ok defensively? How about below average. Lol -
Defenseman longevity tends to be high.

Z predicted that the most improved player in 2015-2016 will be Jakub Kindl. So that said, I'm wondering if the consensus is that Kindl is favored to get the 6th man start already.. -

We had a prospect goalie play half the game. Additionally you can look at the shots on goal. Detroit outshot (10-4) Squad A in the third period and mitigated their defense. Like you said yourself. A vet team wouldn't have given them as much space right? So then how come Chicago's vet team let our prospects shoot 38 times on them? Seems like they had plenty of space to me. The game ended with Detroit 38 shots on goal and Chicago with 37! Not to mention we took one more penalty than they did. Everything here points to the fact that our prospect team held its own against the Chicago squad A team (most part). I've yet to see how our prospects can't handle it. You can argue that "well it was Chicago, I bet if it was Pittsburg's squad A then prospects would have sucked" My response is that Chicago won the stanley cup and so on paper they ARE one of the best teams in the NHL. Can't get a better challenge than that. -

You're right. but the reason that is true is because our prospects are THAT good. Larkin is 19, bertuzzi is 20, Mantha 21. And they are for the most part ready if it was any other team. But at face value they are still prospects not veterans. And the pittsburg B team yesterday was not veteran either. The comparison has to be fair. And in a fair comparison, our B team destroyed their B team. Our B team almost beat Chicago's Stanley cup elite A team. Think about that for a moment. Imo the future is bright. The Chicago Detroit first game is proof that our proespect team has what it takes. Any other assumption made needs proof. There is zero proof that our prospects can't handle a vet team. -

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nhl/2015/09/24/detroit-red-wings-preview-atlantic-division-blashill-datsyuk-zetterberg/72664220/ This guy thinks we are a contender. And he's saying EXACTLY the same thing Kip is saying. top 4 D man needed. -
Whatever happens, ill tell you one thing. Kane's going to think twice before picking up a girl at the bar and taking her home. For the rest of his life.

Put it into perspective, our prospects nearly beat chicagos stanley cup squad. Lost by a goal. Our vets/prospect team beat chicago prospect team by a wide margin. Our mostly prospect team beat pens non- vet team by an even bigger margin. Only positives come out of this any way you look at it -

Neither would the Red Wings vet team. Zetterberg and vet crew would do well against their vet team too. It was basically a battle of prospects/minors last night and ours won. -

Oh h*** no I don't take back what I said about his one-dimensionality a few months ago. There's a lot of things I change my mind on after I look at the situation but nah my stance on teammu stays for now. He is still totally one-dimensional and I wouldn't compare him to Hull. Although his slapper is REALLY good. Maybe the others are right, more ice-time could do him good. -

Larkin could be captain when Z leaves sure but that doesn't mean we want him to be captain right away at the cost of losing Zetterberg. If anything I'm GLAD that Zetterberg has 6 years left because that will be plenty of time for Larkin or whoever to LEARN from him. It's not like we were just jumping up and down waiting for Yzerman to retire so Lidstrom could take the helm. Nor were we just counting the days till Lidstrom retired so Zetterberg would get captaincy. So what if Larkin doesn't get captaincy for another 6 years? He could still be an assistant and LEARN from Zetterberg till 2021. Who do you think Zetterberg learned from? He learned from Yzerman and Lidstrom. You want Larkin to become a captain without someone to teach him? -

I dont know. Even with Helm and Datsyuk out the lines still look like this : Nyquist - Zetterberg - Abdelkader Jurco - Richards - Tatar Franzen - Sheahan - Glendenning Miller - Andersson - Ferraro Pulk would get a spot before Larkin. And neither of them would be on the fourth line but rather on the third line. So you could shift Glendening for 4th line and remove Ferraro or Andersson and insert Pulk into third line spot with Sheahan and Franzen. -

You know what I like about Dylan Larkin? He's mature for his age already. Interviews he's humble. He keeps a level head. When he scores he celebrates the right amount. He doesn't go super Tatar mode crazy and neither is he super mellow about it. This kid is the future captain if he sticks with the organization. He has the same characteristics as Yzerman, Zetterberg, Lidstrom in terms of poise and attitude. That's the Red Wings leadership style. Great f****** game -
