Actually not much different. Just with a quick look with Green it was 17.5, without him it was 16.5 (when he got injured). SO GOOD. HELL YEA MIKE GREEN. 1. Green had spinal surgery. Big huge no no. Would be one thing if it was years ago and he was able to play just fine. We don't even know if he can play. 2. We just went full on young and hot in our draft with Zadina, Veleno and Cholowski, Ras etc are all knocking on the door. We've tried "patches" the last 3 years and have consistently gotten worse, not better. 3. Daley's contract is cheap. Very cheap. 4. Our performance was so terrible with the team that we had last year; there is absolutely no reason to re-sign the same people over again. Time to move on.

You're overrating Green. The spot Daley, DK, Kronwall, Jensen and Ericsson occupy is unfortunate. Which is exactly my point. We're already locked in and we went out and gave away ANOTHER spot for someone who is a decent defenseman. (Of course LGW makes Mike Green seem like a god and he's not). He's pretty good, but not enough to sign again (add onto the fact that he just had spinal surgery). Also you and others are out of your mind if you are underrating Niklas Kronwall this much. Kronwall is one of the hardest working players on the team and a true warrior/leader next to only maybe Zetterberg. He's smart on the powerplay. He does a good job of picking his matchups on breakaways and letting the goalie cover the shot when needed. Ya'll are acting like it's Mike Green or nobody. Niklas Kronwall is a former shell of himself, but he still is a hell of a Red Wing and ya'll are on crack if you think Cholowski, Hronek can't learn a thing of two from Kronwall. For starters, he still Kronwall's people. Mike Green's a *****.

If Kronwall wants to stay. Holland will resign him. He won’t say no.

There is absolutely no reason to sign Green other than hoping we make the playoffs with his help. We were the 8th worst power play in the league last year. What a godsend. Anyone who thinks a Green is a huge asset is delusional. Him being on the roster doesn’t help Hronek of Cholowski if they’re busy playing in GR. I’d rather have them up here and watch Kronwall (who is already on the books) and learn from his work ethic. Maybe Green is better than Kronwall, but Kronner would teach them things too. In order for kids to learn, they actually have to be in Detroit, not Grand Rapids. Larkin didn’t become as good as he did by continuing to play in Michigan. He came here and learned from Zetterberg. He came to Detroit.

No one is saying those guys aren’t wasting roster spots. But that doesn’t mean you go and hand another roster spot to a veteran. We had someone off the books on a defensive unit that is basically overstocked. We went and stocked it more. Absolutely no reason to do it. Green doesn’t help us get into playoffs and not having him wouldn’t have affected “the kids” badly whatsoever. It’s like buying a KitKat just to stock up your cupboard with more chocolate when you’re on a diet. Might taste good, but better off not buying any.

He was signed for the shootouts.

This was our best signing in free agency and made the most sense.

I don't really see what's so good about Green? He put up relatively decent numbers but he's no Kronwall in terms of work ethic and actual leadership. I don't think he's better than Kronwall defensively. I'd say Kronwall has the higher overall IQ and Green has a higher Offensive IQ. I think Green is a bit overrated around here. I give him credit for putting up offense and he's a great skater but a veterans can't really teach someone how to skate lol. On any given good team, I highly doubt Green would be a top defenseman. I would have signed him for a year at most. Glad it's not $6 million but would have preferred less than $5 million. I won't be surprised if he ends up on LTIR though. Honestly would have much rather had both Cholowski or Hronek start this year. Moving DK and Ericsson isn't easy and at the moment we're stuck with them but that doesn't mean you just sign another veteran and take up another spot and handicap your open spots further.

Holland is just trying to make it seem like he's "making moves" for his boss Chris Illitch. Each contract is between 1-3 years. About the time Holland is up for another contract himself in case he needs to redesign some s***. I ain't a Holland hater either. But I smell a GM making moves with playoffs on his mind. Stan Van Gundy did the same thing for the Pistons when he traded for Blake Griffin. They're def trying to contend for a playoff spot. This is a roster built to make a run but will likely end up being a bubble team. Depending on if Zetterberg plays and if the goalies are good we may end up not being a bubble team and fall in the standings.

Isn't Rasmussen really good on faceoffs? (when his hand wasn't injured) I think you want him on center over Nielsen and put Nielsen on the Wing. Ras was like 55% in the NHL preseason games he played. Much better than Larkin did. Also Zadina should be on the first line over Bertuzzi, who should drop down to 3rd line. Zadina basically is a scoring version of Bertuzzi. I:E he goes to the corners and creates space for his centers and then sets himself up for a scoring position.
