They won't do it. They give ice-time based on who works hardest and if they earned it by showing it on ice. Larkin, Mantha got it because of that. AA is upto 15:18 minutes a game now. He's earning it as well. He's played pretty well the last few games and has averaged more and more ice time.

Basically. Ain't no one going to take that $4 million cap for a goalie with a 3.64 GAA. To think that is ASINE. Playing him a "Few extra" games probably won't change his stats much. Giving him a "String of starts" might change it though. But it looks like Krsmith changed his mind on that. We would probably have to retain over half his salary and the return (if there even was one) would be s***. We're better off holding on to him as a backup, re-sign him for cheap until Jimmy expires out. Yes and that's why I argue night and day. I stand for justice! Others just happen to want their favorite boys playing. Whic is all good. Until you start insulting other people and scapegoat them... S hit has to be earned in this world. Jimmy Howard earned his spot after performing well last season. Mrazek has to earn it back. Perhaps in his next 3 starts he gets a shutout or two, maybe he faces 40-50 shots and impresses. That's what needs to happen. By the way don't be surprised about all this. These are the same people that wanted Tomas Jurco to play on a line with Datsyuk because of his "supposed" potential that he never showed in t he NHL. Really? Free ice time with the best player in the world? Yeah right. Earn it. People on this board just want to give their favorite players free ice time. Not a huge fan of Blashill, but I think he's done just fine with ice-time and opportunity for most players (except maybe AA at times). There was also an issue I had with Glendening's play time years ago. The team was consistently relying on him and he was averaging 2nd line minutes while Tatar was averaging third line minutes. I would even argue that this was part (one part of many other issues) of the reason we lost to Tampa in the playoffs. They tried fixing it with pairing Glen with Abdelkader and I think Sheahan and that worked out a little better. Although we still lost because of our lack of fire power from the euro twins and their age. Anyways, Glendogs ice time has since reduced as it should.

No no no, you raved about his advanced stats being superior while he was in the league. It didn't translate in the end.

Ok I can agree with preservation for the starter due to his age and decreasing that number from 65 to 55 ish. As you can tell I'm not in favor of (and I don't think the organization is either) the idea of giving someone a "String of starts" "just because". Unless of course it was very clear that this is a tandem and not a clear cut starter-backup scenario. This entire goalie situation with Mrazek may be similar to how they didn't increase the young forwards ice time until they started earning it and consistently performed. Maybe Mrazek (because of his years of issues now) has suddenly become a long term project, or it could be what I'm thinking - which is preventing his value from getting worse. We don't know. Also keep in mind that this is Holland. He still thinks we have a shot at playoffs (which theoretically we likely do). So all the more reason to keep rolling Howard from his POV.

False. You were wrong Pulkinnen. I haven't heard you admit defeat yet. Why should a backup get more starts? A backups role is to be the backup. More starts (like you suggest) assumes something else then. It's less than halfway through the season and he's played 11 games. If this plays out he ends up playing 22-25 games. That's probably around what backups usually play. Maybe even less actually.

Why no Mantha on the PK?

Yep. Hossa's situation confirms this tbh.

I'm honestly not exaggerating anything. His Quality Start % is literally 25%. The amount of quality starts he's had divided by the # of games he's started. Quality starts = having > 88% Sv% (or average sv% for the league). Simply put, he's far worse than the average goalie in the league. Looking at 1 game for a backup and then saying he deserves more starts is not convincing. Only way Mrazek becomes a starter or gets "a string of starts" (very rare for a backup) is if Howard hits the bucket and that's entirely possible. I think the problem in the fandom currently is that people may still be assuming that this is a Tandem goaltending situation. It's not. They made it very clear where they stand when they exposed Mrazek and t hen went on to call Howard the best goalie on their team and additionally then went on to declare him starter moving forward. As far as I can tell, Mrazek is either getting traded, re-signed for cheap, or Howard gets injured or loses his job to Mrazek. He might even get waived....

Got tired of it. You know how it is. Well since you now backtracked to say Smith is again a top 4 defenseman. Just as you predicted years ago. That must mean the organization didn't f*** up right? Since Smith is now a top 4 defenseman, the Red Wings organization must have done a good job since he became what you projected him to be. Right? I take issue with this. And you know you're going to twist it to try to stand your ground. Because you'll never admit that you were just scapegoating the Red Wings. In November you admitted that Brenden Smith failed and didn't become a top 4 and you then blamed the Detroit Red Wings organization for it. And now that Brenden Smith is playing top 4. What do you have to say about the Red Wings? Let me guess you're going to still blame the Red Wings for somehow screwing him over right? But how did he get screwed if he ended up living up to his potential? He's top 4 just like you imagined. So do you take back your blame game on the Wings? You probably won't because Smith is your boy and he can do no wrong. If he f***ed up then it must be the Wings. But if he lives up to the potential, Wings get zero credit. In fact they still get blamed (somehow).

But it was just pointed out that he's getting 6th D-man minutes. So isn't he a 6th D-man? Come on bro you contradicted yourself on Smith. Called him a top 4 for years, then admitted he was a bottom pair. Now you're saying he's top 4 again even though he plays 3rd pairing minutes. You're just like Buppy and me. You'll never admit defeat. It's all good.

Uh no. More stats show that Howard, although may not win, gives the team a better chance to keep the scoring low. Has better starts, even tho he might actually lose the game. Which means better for the younger players to stay motivated while we continue our march toward Dahlin. It's a supporting argument to my original point as to why Howard in net is better for the youngsters (Larkin, Mantha, AA, Bertuzzi). Howard gives the team a win-win. We might end up still losing the game, but he still keeps the game interesting for us as fans and for the players who are trying to stay (should stay) motivated. I think the problem is you keep looking at each post as an indibidual point. You need to look at my overall arching point. It's no wonder why you think I must have Mrazek, you must keep looking at my individual posts and not realizing why I post about Mrazek the way I do (and why I do goes back to a looooooong time ago and because Mrazek has sucked FOR 3 YEARS. Not just this year.)

I would agree. And I think the management is predicting that as well. Or give him easier games. Honestly. Set him up to win if possible. His last game against Islanders was a win because they had Greiss in net and we stomped on him. Mrazek got a nice W. Performed pretty well too.

Nope not the same. Jimmy was phenomenal the first 10-12 games. In fact he had the best stats in the league. Didn't let up more than 3 goals in his first 15 games except like once. Mrazek on the other hand let in 4-5 goals 3 times in just his first 9 games. It's not even close. Jimmy has less bad games in his overall games played. I'll take it another notch for you. Howard's QS% (quality start percent) is 63%. The league average is 53%. Which means Jimmy is far higher than the leage in terms of how many good games he has. Which means he gives the younger boys the best chance at keeping them in the game. Which was what my original point was anyways. By the way Mrazek's QS% is 25%. Terrible. 25% chance he's going to stop most of his shots. Terrible probability. You can chalk it up all you want but Howard is the better option for the overall team chances in a game and overall morale. And that's what this coaching/management is likely going for. Which as I've already said, I think it's a good idea. And anyone who has played a team sport as a player would probably agree that it's always nice to have a winning chance even if you lose. As far as Mrazek getting a string of starts. He got plenty of this "string of starts" last season. In fact he played in 50 games. What do you not understand about the fact that he LOST his job and is now a BACKUP? Or do you not know what backup means? Backups don't get "String of starts". I think even an 8 year old hockey fan would know this..... It's over. Mrazek lost that opportunity. The only thing he can do now is win that job back. If he does. Then great. If not, then no big deal. No big loss. And I'm talking about coming up with conclusions about what the organization might be thinking WHY they have Mrazek benched. As in, based off of the given facts right now that he's benched. Not about scenarios that could, would, should be. Do you understand that or do I need to spell that out? You always go off point and try to argue about something completely different. Again Mrazek is a backup. Backups don't get "Strings of starts" until the starter is injured or sucking. That's how it works. Do you get it or still not yet? I'm just trying to explain a very simple concept to you because for some reason you don't get it. The Wings aren't doing anything out of the ordinary. They're treating their goalies like they said they would back in the summer. They clearly said, Howard is the starter. They do think that.

    Cholowski playing really well

All that information aside though like I said he’s the only one among the top scorers that’s in his first WHL season. All the other top 7 ahead have been playing in the league a few years. Most of the others are not much ahead by the way (a point or two) and some have played more games.
