Why no Mantha on the PK?

Agreed. That's probably why Miller was on that thing.

Be good now or win 4 cups?

    I chose A because I'm a hoodrat.

Why no Mantha on the PK?

There are a few reasons to have a forward on the PK. One if he's good, two if he's fast, and three if he's a centerman. Mantha is neither of those things.

    Dylan Larkin Appreciation Thread

A few months ago they asked Z about his opinion on Mantha, AA and Larkin. Z sort of brushed off Mantha and AA said they're doing well. But then kept drooling over Larkin saying "Someone who has come a long way that you will notice is Larkin, I think his two-way game has really improved blah blah blah" At the time I thought Z was overselling the guy too much. I've never seen him talk about a player that way, not even Datsyuk. And he's had his fair share of compliments on Pav. Now I know what he meant. He called it months ago. Why? Because those players get to watch each other during practice. We're only now getting an "appreciation" for Larkin. But Blash, Z etc saw this coming months ago. And this is exactly why Larkin's ice time has increased. He earned it over that training camp etc. Having said all that, I personally would like to see Larkin continue the performance and show it again next year. Once he's done that, he has my faith. I say this because both Nyquist and Tatar gave us 1-2 years of flash then got exposed by the league. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Has Blashill finally lost the team?

First, nice try but you should know that vague useless statements like that doesn't work on this website. The posters here are above average intelligence compared to other forums. Second, I just did a google search and found zero "reputable outlets" accusing the Swedes of what that tabloid idiot Jeff Moss came up with. I seriously suggest you look up who Jeff Moss is, he's notorius for coming up with false rumors and having the cops called on him for Slander multiple times. Third, if you found some "reputable outlets" reporting it and giving direct evidence (NOT circumstancial evidence OR simply quoting Jeff Moss as their "source") then why don't you link those instead? Don't just try to say "Oh there were other better resources but I just posted the two most useless ones and thought I wouldn't get called out". Nice try. Fourth, I'll be waiting for those links.
  6. Ya’ll and your PC posts. I’m anti-Mrazek because Mrazek sucks. Get at me.

    Rumors Thread

Not sure where else to ask about this (not going to start a thread over it) and since this is a Rumors thread I figured it's synonymous with Fake news. Does anyone have access to this article? I want to read it. Maybe someone on reddit might post but maybe not. https://theathletic.com/184069/2017/12/18/henrik-zetterberg-leaving-a-lasting-impact/

Based off the Tigers and Red Wings, I just don't think Chris Illitch is as into "set us up to win asap" as Mike Illitch was. I think he's a lot more passive about the sports teams.

Has Blashill finally lost the team?

Either you're extremely naive or extremely stupid. I'm shocked you actually believe tabloid news written by a guy who has issues with the police. The guy who started the Swedish Mafia rumors is a notorious dumbass. See below: http://www.thenewsherald.com/news/allen-park-detroit-lions-call-police-over-tweet-by-sports/article_4cd3f29c-7c4f-5cac-9084-6f7a9dfcb830.html That's the look of the bum who writes trash news. I'd rather watch fake news.

Two Tendies Enter. One Tendy Lives.

The 13 that voted are probably being rational about their choice and considering the future sure. But you ACTUALLY think Mrazek is better than Howard when he isn't. You're being irrational. You keep talking about Jittery Jimmy, mental breakdowns blah blah blah but last I checked Howard was strong in net last night. You're HOPING Jimmy blows it but in reality he's been just fine overall. You talk about Jimmy not being tradeable but Mrazek was exposed in an expansion draft and wasn't even taken for free. And Jimmy isn't that old. He's 33. Do you know the age Osgood when he won his last cup? In fact Howard is actually performing better at his older age than he did 3 years ago. Your age argument is flat out weak.

Okay and what would your trade scenario for Fabbro be? Specifically. So let me get this straight. You've been calling for Holland's head because he "refuses or unwilling to make trades" and this trade you speak of is for an unproven player? LOL. And here I was thinking you were actually talking about some legit trades like getting an established NHL player or something, not some fairy tale junior you supposedly think "could be good hypothetically because I don't think ours is as good". Sorry but I'm with Holland than some weak trade because "you think so and so could be good in 3 years but hasn't sniffed a day of NHL". I think you have grass is greener snydrome because you're upset with this teams performance. Cholowski has 28 points in 25 WHL games. He's doing just fine. Fabbro is doing worse in the NCAA. Not sure if it's worth giving up a top 6 and prospect/pick for that lol.

He's probably hoping he has a job in the NHL and gets his act together. And if he were reading this convo he's be happy he has a cheerleader in you (of the like 3 that are left) but he knows he has a long way to go performance wise.

You laughed? You should be embarassed because Blashill started Howard again and proved you wrong with his solid performance last night. 93.1 sv%. What did you call him? Jittery Jimmy? Lol. Didn’t see many Jitters last night. And Mrazek started having attitude issues years ago. And that’s exactly why the franchise put him in his place this year to remind him of humility. Have you heard a peep put of Mrazek? I haven’t. Last interview he said how he’s going to work hard and stay focused. He even said that he wants to be a 1-2 punch with Howard. Sounds like the respnse of a boy finally growing up after a nice spanking from dad. The spanking of course was Las Vegas passing up on him. Brought Mrazek’s attitude back down to earth.

And what includes your package of Bean, Fabbro, Sanheim? By the way those are weak trades you might as well just stand pat and draft your own D-men and wait the extra year or two. Oh wait Holland is already doing that...

    Rumors Thread

Um whats the point of making any trade if yu want to draft Dahlin and wait? You’re contradicting yourself. On one hand you’re saying you want to build through the draft (which will take 4-5 more years probably by the time the pieces are ready) but on the other hand you want a non-elite trade now? Either way a trade (Karlsson or not Karlsson) fixes issues now while the draft POSSIBLY fixes issues years down the lane.

People will think you're trolling because of your abrasive way of saying it like it is but you're actually right. There is a standardized stat that you can judge goalies performance with called QS%. It stands for "Quality Start Percentage". It's basically the Quality Starts a goalie has divided by the number of games he's started. Now what is "Quality Starts"? It's basically the number of games where a goalie has had a save % greater than the league average save % for the year OR at least greater than 88.5% when faced with 20 or fewer shots. Sounds simple right? Just divide the number of games a goalie plays above league average by the number of games he's started and you get his Quality Start %. Pretty standardized way of judging. Long story short, the average Quality Start % in the league for goalies is 53%. Jimmy Howard's career quality start percent is 55.4% which puts him "above average" in the league (so yea Bill you were wrong with the Howard = Average thread years ago). This year Howard's Quality Start percent is at a whooping 59.1%. So despite what people think with these 9 losses or whatever, Jeff Blashill is not wrong and the franchise is right to keep him as the starter. Howard is WELL above league average this year for the # of games he's played. Mrazek's career Quality Start % is 53% which is exactly at the league average. So remember, Howard is 55.4% and Mrazek is 53% for career. Which means while Howard is an above average goalie, Mrazek is at average. Here's where it gets embarassing for Mrazek. Just for this year, Mrazek's Quality Start % is 14.3%. Freaking 14.3% bro. That's 40% below average. That is absolute TRASH. He's literally the worst goalie in the league right now. Now of course if you compare Howards first 15 games to the last 8 games it's not going to look pretty. But overall he's still hovering at a good level especially after this game with the Panthers (even though it was a loss, he played well). Now people might wonder why is QS% even the measurement used right now? Well QS only looks at the games a goalie has started and removes the bias from the games they get put in to relieve a goalie. So it's only looking at the games Howard and Mrazek started and doesn't count the ones where their sv% or gaa was ruined because they came in as a relief.

By the way, for those who think Karlsson will walk and we wasted some young players. If he wants to hit FA, we can trade him at deadline in 2019 and re-gain most of what we've lost, maybe even more if we're lucky. There's options of how things pan out for whatever team ends up with him if Ottawa does trade him.

    Rumors Thread

No. You don't give up 4 bodies. For a 1 year of Karlsson, 1 "untouchable" guy, one 2ndary scorer and however many picks that we'd probably end up wasting anyways. I keep Larkin over Mantha
  21. kickazz

    Rumors Thread

Yes exactly. Karlsson carries Ottawa. The times he hasn't played and they won, Craig Andersson was a beast. If he came to Detroit, I guarantee you we would jump many spots in the standings. Man there was one game I think there Ottawa had like 50 something shots on goal and 20 something of those attempts came from Karlsson's stick. The guy is a possession monster. Someone made this chart with Senators 5 on 5 numbers. If the MVP award was given based off of how impactful a player is to his team rather than how many points a player scores, then Karlsson would win it every year and Carey Price would come in 2nd place (except Price sucks this year so it doesn't apply).

    Rumors Thread

I just don't think it's that easy. I said it earlier, when you get a guy like Karlsson in a trade you actively sign him to an extension with a crap ton of money RIGHT AWAY. You basically pull a McDavid and throw the bank at him. Karlsson "I want to explore the market" Holland "We'll give you 100 million dollars and match any offer with additional benefits if you sign today" Karlsson "Deal" ^ I bet that actually ends up happening except it happens with Ottawa instead.
  23. kickazz

    Rumors Thread

One year of Karlsson and an opportunity to negotiate an extension > a young player that's most likely overrated by Wings fans. It's not like Holland would just let him walk to free agency come 2019. If we have the money (which we could), you offer him a max deal that he wouldn't even care to go to free agency. Erik Karlsson is a player you lock in for a decade if you can and you start having those talks early on in the contract year. He has nothing to prove. And I've already told you that having Karlsson on this team instantly makes us more attractive for high end UFAs than having a Mantha and a Nyquist and two kids buried in juniors for "development". Big picture things.

    Rumors Thread

Same type of offensive numbers? You must not be reading the numbers right. Karlsson scores 70-80 points a year. The highest OEL has scored is 55 and that was 3 years ago. Blocks more shots? OEL blocked 85 shots last year. Want to know how many Karlsson blocked? 201. Lol. You're wayyyyy off and wrong.

    Rumors Thread

I think its crazy that people literally wouldn't trade a young player who hasn't proven much yet for arguably the best defenseman in the league. My god the guy players like 30 minutes a game, is a possession monster, scores 80 points a year and is a two time Norris winner and he's only 27. He's a Captain too if that adds any cherry on top. We seriously overrate the hell out of our young players. It's almost psychotic. Anyways, he's probably going to stay in Ottawa.
