Between this and Dylan Larkin dying from ballsack trauma this tournament has taken a sudden, bleak turn. -
I'm not saying you're wrong, as I haven't been able to watch him play much, but what makes you think this? I'm assuming (hoping) it's not just his highlight reel. The few scouting reports I've read about him have praised his defensive ability, and I feel like that kind of goes along with everyone speaking so highly about his hockey sense, which is something I value extremely highly. Pronman ranked his hockey sense above everyone else in the top 10 in that article he posted earlier. Even if there were issues with his defensive game, which I haven't heard yet, I don't think It'd scare me off. I think the Wings could really use a bonafide playmaker. Link for those interested, though behind a paywall: https://theathletic.com/970746/2019/05/21/pronmans-2019-nhl-draft-board-top-107-prospects/ Skating: 50 Puck Skills: 60 Physical Game: 45 Hockey Sense: 75 Zegras was fantastic all season for the USNTDP and was a go-to guy for the program when they needed a goal. In terms of pure offensive skill, he’s the best in the draft class. He’s a special playmaker and one of the best passers I’ve seen as a first-year draft-eligible in recent years. It’s not just that he sees the options, it’s also the fact his timing is elite in terms of when to execute plays, and he has the high-end skill to feather pucks into the right spots. His imagination gets the highest praise from me. He’s made some very creative one-touch plays where he’s knocking pucks that were behind him onto the sticks of teammates or firing a bullet pass while spinning with the puck on his backhand. He’s known as a playmaker but has a sneaky good shot and can pick a corner if you give him time. Zegras has fine speed, very good edge work and hands to evade checks. He can push the pace when he wants to, but for a small, slight forward, he slows it down a bit too much for me. He’s not the biggest or bulkiest pivot and has at times played wing this season, but he’s gotten steadily better in the physical parts of the game and will push back when opponents get physical with him. Zegras isn’t a guy who you pick to run over guys, though; you’re drafting him to slot onto the half-wall of your first power play and get the puck to the scorers on his wing for a decade. USNTDP center Jack Hughes on Zegras: “He’s the most creative player on our team. He thinks outside the box, he’s really smart and super crafty with his hands and movements. He’s really slippery. He’s an easy guy to play with knowing he’ll always give you great passes.”

Saw this earlier. I'm becoming more and more interested in Zegras personally. I remember talk about it not being a top 2, but a top 3 with Podkolzin. Boy has he fallen. I feel like I haven't watched him play enough to formulate my own opinion on him, so with his recent lack of production and that whole thing about him being under contract for the next 2 years, it's pretty discouraging. Same.

edit: nevermind, over it

Do you? I asked you why they aren't considered busts relative to their draft position. Neither of them look to be a better pick at this point in time. But go on, keep sidestepping. Also everything I said was true, I was just too lazy to quote the posts you said them in. Jared McIsaac had a better season than Dobson btw. The only argument to be made for drafting someone else over Zadina at this point in time is Hughes, and you thought that would be a "huge mistake." The fact that you have paid zero attention to our other likely candidates since the draft but insist Zadina was a bad pick pretty much says it all. You judged him in junior (contrary to any scout), haven't watched him since (I assume), say we should've drafted Dobson, Bouchard, or Hughes over him with admittedly zero context. Excuse me for thinking you're lacking solid reasoning.
-
You didn't want Hughes, that sounds like hindsight drafting to me. Also Dobson and Bouchard didn't exactly light up their junior leagues this past season and don't look NHL ready at all, why aren't they busts relative to their draft positions? You thought the Islanders won the draft, but Wahlstrom had a worse year than Zadina, in a worse league. Brett Hull and Mitch Marner are two extremely different players, neither of which I would've used to describe Zadina. What does this even mean?

I'm extremely sad about this one TBH -
top 2 yes, top 3 no.
-
I would. I'm honestly not sure what to expect from him this upcoming season considering he just missed the entire year. Could be an adjustment coming back so I'd like to see what he does at least the next couple of seasons. Definitely one of our more intriguing players for me. I feel like he could be terrible, but I also feel like he could be awesome. Edit: Out of curiosity, how do we feel about his injury/surgery? Apparently he had ACL reconstruction done. I've no idea about any of that but it sounds serious as s***. Is this an injury where we should worry about future complications?
-
When I call him a troll, It's because I legitimately believe he's trolling sometimes. That's how outrageous I find some of the posts. I don't have a problem with his opinion, I have an issue with how he continues to frame it. Also I'm pretty with you on the likes/dislikes right now, although I may be less worried about his creativity with his teammates. All the things you've been saying regarding Zadina are perfectly reasonable, involving reasonable concerns. It's quite a bit different from: "He's a bust, I've known it since juniors, bad pick." <-----stupid Ya feel? I'm not attacking the guy personally, but I'm definitely going to call out the nonsense.
-
Being reasonably concerned he's going to bust and calling him a bust are two completely different things. This is why I think you're a troll. Also less than stellar is not a kind description, It's a pretty reasonable one. By all accounts people are happy with his season as a 19 year old playing his first pro season and most times I've heard it talked about people considered his numbers respectable. Like everyone else I wish he'd torn the league apart and been a 2 ppg player, but just because he didn't doesn't suddenly make his season terrible. Also, how many Griffins games have you even watched this year? Also Also, nobody called you stupid. A line of reasoning that was extremely stupid was referred to as stupid. Although I'm starting to wonder about you.
-
Same. I'm still pretty confident though.
-
You're a legendary troll, the whole victim thing you got going on right now is good stuff. How so? You think Zadina's a bust after one season, that's stupid.
-
To be disappointed that Zadina didn't light up the AHL and get a call up to be full time for the Wings is totally reasonable. I wish that would've happened too. However: Nailed it.
-
Same. I, like many, would absolutely love to land Byram, but I really don't think he's available at 6. Someone will want a dman before that. This draft, more so than any others I've paid attention to, has me uncertain of who I'd want. Turcotte, Zegras, Caufield, Podkolzin, not to mention I'm open to the idea that Cozens will be better than I think. So hard to choose. Part of me really thinks Zegras is going to be the surprise catch, like Pettersson was.
-
Where'd you see this? When I looked at Eliteprospects it said he was first, but maybe they're not updated yet. Either way cool news, no reason not to like this signing.
-
Not even backed up by past events. Have you even watched him in the AHL? I'm starting to think you don't even know what his real deficiencies actually are, but just parrot whatever initial impression you got from him in junior and then try to back it up with his +/-, as if that's a solid argument. I'm also willing to bet you don't know squat about Veleno outside of his stat line, but choose to rank him above Zadina just for the sake of being obstinate.
-
lol The way you believe this with such certainty despite a virtually unanimous opinion to the contrary is actually impressive. It's very reminiscent of watching an adolescent argue.

Report: Detroit to name Steve Yzerman as GM
Wheelchairsuperhero replied to BringBack19's topic in General
Did you read something about the Wings being upset by this move? I'd be surprised if they didn't expect this in the first place. I would just as assume he was given a position out of professional courtesy/loyalty for all his years here on the chance he doesn't find a good GM fit somewhere, but with the knowledge that he would be fielding offers. I'm just upset we're losing him honestly, I would've loved to have Yzerman and Holland both. -
IIRC Nielsen was playing 3C by the end of the year. I'm not sure about everyone else but I don't see him as a capable 2C. I also think Datsyuk puts up more than Nielsen's 35 points, so in this regard I disagree. Totally with you on the rest of the post. It doesn't matter if he's not the Datsyuk we used to know, I'd still bet he's a capable 3C and PP specialist.
-
Do I think Datsyuk is going to come over and be elite? No. But I think he's a better option than Nielsen and considering he's one of my favorite Red Wings ever I would absolutely love for him to finish his career here. I'll take the shadow of Datsyuk any day. Unfortunately I don't think It's likely.
