But guys...can we really be surprised? Ken "Status Quo" Holland has been doing this for years. We have definite needs and money to spend and he sits on his hands. Management gave up after Suter and Parise went elsewhere. I didn't want to believe it, but that's what happened. They threw in the towel. Kenny said it himself. He knew this team might not make the playoffs. That's a lack of confidence. Babcock begged Lidstrom to come back during training camp. BEGGED. That's just embarassing. And you know what? It didn't have to be this way. Instead of bringing the youth up and going after some players NOT named Ryan Suter and Zach Parise, he goes out and signs useless Band-Aids and essentially plays dice with the season. They knew it was going to be a "transitional/rebuilding year" long before the season started. Well you know what? I'm not buying it. That's just a fancy way of saying "lost season".

He plays soft, doesn't hit, and disappears for long stretches of time. If you aren't tough enough to battle through injuries, then you don't belong in hockey. He isn't producing and never has in line with his ability. He's insane if his asking price is accurate. I wouldn't even pay him 2 right now.

Well thank goodness he's signed at that price for the rest of his productive career, then. -
I'm sorry, but Flip is nothing compared to Doan and Kesler. You're talking about heart-and-soul guys who play physical at both ends of the ice, skate hard, and bury their chances when they get them. Filpulla's just here to collect a paycheck. He disappears and certainly isn't worth 5 mil a season. I doubt he's worth 4.

He has no heart. He floats through games and is maddeningly inconsistent. He plays soft and acts like a man half his size. There's so much he could be with his size and skill...but just isn't. And at this point, never will be. -

Ah, there's Mr. Holier-than-thou. I was wondering when you'd show up.First off, why is it "completely absurd"? Because you disagree with it? But, of course, it's never enough for the mighty Crymson to simply disagree. Next, I doubt I'll have to worry about that. Everyone around us either A) getting hot or B) making additions to improve themselves. Heck, in some teams' cases, they're adding by subtracting. So to answer your question, I would simply know they'd be out darn quick even if they did. No one can disagree with that. Besides you, of course. Second, the reason non-contending teams are in that position is because they have a lack of "great players". It's not common. Not many great players with Buffalo or Florida. We don't have too many here, either. We're full of third and fourth-liners. That was a mistake any way you slice it. I have my opinion, and you have yours. You can coddle the Wings and tell them it;s okay if you want. I refuse to. Things are not OK. And, quite frankly, I don't see them being OK for a long time coming. "Whatever that's worth"... My feelings are sure hurt. "So notorious as a positive voice." My "Mr. Holier-than-thou" nickname is proven. Thank you. -

Ok... Everyone around us in the standings, with the possible exception of St. Louis, has started to heat up and stands to add. We are staying the same with everyone around us getting better. We were high enough in the standings last year that we could stand the type of hideous collapse we had. Simply put, that's a recipe for missing the playoffs. Smith has been either ineffective or terrible in his own zone. He has supremely disappointed me. A guy with his talent SHOULD NOT be as invisible as he is on a nightly basis. You don't have to trade away your future. One prospect and a draft pick IS NOT the future. If that's the case, the farm system is EXTREMELY shallow. -

Technically, they already did something. They traded Huskins to the Flyers for a draft pick we might not even get. -

A team that is a combined 4-1 against Anaheim and Vancouver isn't a contender? A team that has beaten L.A., Minnesota, San Jose, and St. Louis isn't a contender? A team that has stayed in the playoffs virtually all season without most of their regular lineup isn't a contender? A team that has an improving defense and solid goaltending isn't a contender? A team with Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg in the top-6 isn't a contender? You see where I'm going. And no. People don't complain just to complain. They complain because when they see s***, they point it out. There ARE players available. Drew Stafford could help. Fleischmann, Pominville and Gaborik could all help. The playoffs are a guaranteed bust even if we make it. And with what's happened lately, I see us crashing and burning FAR outside the playoff bubble. -
They won't make the playoffs without any moves. Edmonton and Columbus are looking to add and are playing great right now. San Jose has won 5 in a row. St. Louis just beat Minnesota to snap a skid. Everyone below us is getting better while we're staying the same. This is going to be on helluva collapse. Bank on that.

I just want them to do something. But, they won't. I can guarantee this team misses the playoffs without an addition or two. -

If I were Datsyuk, I'd walk into Kenny's office and demand a trade off this sinking ship. But, Pav would never do that. He'll just deke Kenny out and go back to work. He'll carry this whole organization by himself, if he has to. That's just so unfair to him. -

If he had the heart of a fan, he would've done something to fix this f*cking train wreck. -
And Waddell. And Malik. And Khan. And Custance is the Twitter source. Mind you, I just named off the Trifecta of Pessimism.

If anyone read Twitter, Dave Waddell and George Malik today, we might as well sleep through Wednesday.

Miller's vastly overrated. No thanks.
-
They don't have a whole lot of value. Bouwmeester, Regehr, and Douglas Murray all contribute something majorly. None of those three have made much of an impact. I wouldn't expect anything more than a 3rd rounder for any of those guys. Teams don't want our garbage. Second-round picks are all the more important in a deep draft. We'd be lucky to get a bag of chips. Certainly no roster players.
-
A little early, but good to have this thread. I look forward to the trade deadline, as always. Even if we don't do anything, always fun to be able to sit back and watch the fireworks.

The players you mentioned play totally different roles than Nyquist. Of course he should out-produce them, they're bottom-6 forwards. Emmerton had a goal last night. I forgot Nyquist existed last night. Not only that, but Nyquist, along with most of our prospects at forward, will be eaten alive in the East. Far too small and lacking physicality and defense. Andersson might do okay.
-
I'd give a ton to get Gaborik on this team. No matter how many goals he scores in New York, he'll always be "underachieving". It's the nature of playing in New York. Not very many good playmakers with the Rangers, either. We could provide him a few centers who could feed him the puck. Pav and Gabby would be DEADLY.

Been following the DeKeyser situation lately. I first read that the offers have been submitted and that we are rumored to be the front-runner. And today, I read that a decision is rumored to be coming within a few days. I'm not really familiar with him, but I've seen his name pop up a lot. I know he went to Western but is he from here? What's his game? Potential? Does he need some time in the minors or should he be used like Justin Schultz?

Trade Huskins to Flyers for conditional 7th rd pick (2014)
DetroitRedWings1993 replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
We got a draft pick out of a guy who barely played? Great move by Holland in that case. Husky served his purpose very well. Down to 9 defensemen now? I still see another being moved. -
Buffalo's given up on just about everything. Pominville's been made available. Drew Stafford and most of their defensemen are available. They need a rebuild.
-
Nyquist is not a scoring forward. Too small and more of a playmaker. We have too many passers and not enough finishers. Zetterberg has lost his ability to score. I don't know where it went, but it's gone and it's probably never coming back. Tatar cooled off at both ends of the ice fairly quickly. I was really disappointed with how heavily he tailed off. Neither he nor Nyquist have impressed me a great deal to this point. Out of the two between Gaborik and Vanek, if we were to pursue them, I would go after Vanek. Far more consistent than Gaborik, not as much of an injury concern, and is having a MUCH better year currently. Also a lesser cap hit, but not by much. Vanek makes 6.4 this year and next, Gabby makes 7.5 for the same term. Stop talking about defensemen. Just stop. If we're serious about letting the kids grow into their roles, then we should NOT be shopping around for a defenseman. You want to let the kids grow? Then actually let them grow. Bouwmeester is terrible and makes WAY too much money. Yandle is awful in his own end. We have enough of that (Kronwall, Quincey, Ericsson). We need some type of scoring forward at the deadline. We have literally NO ONE who can put the puck in the net consistently. To quote unsaddleddonald, Franzen is what he is. And what he is, is inconsistent, soft, and totally devoid of heart and effort. The odd goal now and then doesn't change that.
