If game after game we're not playing the full 60 minutes, when do you start questioning the lack of motivation driven through the coaching?

Howard really hasn't been challenged a ton, but good to see him in a very winnable game....

Said it before... I don't care if this team doesn't make the playoffs. The way they're playing, they wouldn't do anything this year anyways. I don't even care if they don't make it for a few years if that's what it takes to make meaningful steps toward getting the right balance of players (and coaching) who show up every night... When we played Colorado outdoors this year, there was a pre-show featuring the story of the rivalry back in the late 90's early 2000's. As I sat there and watched the fantastic guys we had on the team then and how freaking awesome we used to be, I though "God, what a stark comparison to where we are now..." It's sadly true...

Losing is one thing, losing badly at home when the playoffs are on the line is another. Pittsburg is good, but not THAT great of a team. The Wings were absolutely disgraceful today. This one really hurt.

I think one thing is apparent... The on-the-fly strategy of replacing older players (that've retired or whatever) with younger guys hasn't worked. We haven't had high level draft picks and the newer guys (for the most part) haven't stepped up to the level that we need them to for filling in the holes. This has led to the state of mediocrity that we have now. I think it's been in a pretty steady decline since we were fighting these Pens for the Cup.

Yeah, but a show of hands as to how many of us wanted the streak to continue, even if we didn't do much in the playoffs.... Personally, I'm getting to the point where I don't even care if we don't make the playoffs for a couple of years ... if it means positive momentum in rebuilding and having a hope for a consistent team again. This may be a reality of the New NHL. Perhaps you gotta hit bottom to bounce back to the top ....

I also wonder if Babcock would've wrung more out of this team ... Guess it really doesn't matter as we'll never know. I'm caring less and less about the streak and more and more about building this team back up to be competitive ... Been a tough season to be a Wings fan.

I again have to ask myself how much of the train wreck this year falls on Blashill.... I have to go back a long ways to remember a Red Wings team that looked this disjointed....

Downright embarrassing...

Now we're getting scored on by guys I've never even heard of. Easy to be discouraged....

The bottom line is that we need to score more goals. We're 21st in the league in that stat and it's killing us.
