Dylan larkin #5 prospect out of top 50 on hockeysfuture
DickieDunn replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
His dad was an NHL player so that means he's better than other prospects. Can we please not call him Dylark. It sounds stupid. -
What's our draft position this year? And best defensemen available
DickieDunn replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
The Wings wanted a local boy in the draft once and got some scrawny Canadian kid instead. I think that worked out pretty good. Where a player is from is and should always be a secondary consideration. When you take locality over talent, you're going to be disappointed every time. Look at the Pistons and Lions Remember Mateen Cleaves? Charles Rogers? Drew Stanton? All were drafted because they were local guys when better players were available. I don't want the Wings to do that. -
I'm not bashing Quincey, I'm saying they don't need a guy of his caliber. Adding anyone on defense, they need to take into account the fact that there are only 6 regular spots. Kronwall is here to stay. Ericsson and Dekeyser probably are too. Smith and Kindl could be moved, but Smith could easily be kept around at least as long as his contract. Kronwall, Ericsson, Smith, Quincey, Dekeyser, Marchenko, and Kindl next year. Kronwall, Ericsson, Smith, Dekeyser, Marchenko, Ouellet, Jensen and Sproul, one of them will be gone in 16-17. Unless Smith or Ericsson get traded, there is no room to add a defenseman to more than a one year contract without blocking young defensemen and risking losing one or more for absolutely nothing.

Franson got benched after being traded back to Nashville and is highly over rated. Petry is basically a right handed Quincey at best. I'm not sure he's that good. Green is injury prone and bad defensively and is going to get paid a bunch of money. McQuaid is a crappy puck mover. Defensemen need to move the puck to play in the Wings' system. There isn't a single player available I'd want for what they're probably going to get on the market. I've seen better looking stuff in my toilet after taco Tuesday than this year's free agent class. Assuming Franzen is done and Weiss is traded or waived: Tatar-Datsyuk-Helm Nyquist-Zetterberg-Abdelkader Jurco-Sheahan-Pulkkinen Miller-Glendening-Ferraro Callahan and Andersson reserves Kronwall-Dekeyser Quincey-Smith Ericsson-Marchenko Kindl/cheap vet as the #7 Like it or not, the lineup will probably look pretty close to that. Let's hope that the younger guys step up and take some pressure off Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Kronwall.

Babcock granted permission to talk to other teams

He'd be a prime candidate but others would probably get interviews -

I saw something a few days ago that McLellan was more of a sure thing to take the job, would be a lot cheaper, and as a Babcock assistant he has a similar system on-ice. -
What if we got a new 91 in town? Vladimir Tarasenko
DickieDunn replied to RedWingFan13's topic in General
If he was a center, it was in Sweden before coming to the US. He was a winger in college and his entire pro career. Lots of kids start out at center in the lower level youth leagues though, you put your best forwards there most of the time, like a lot of MLB players played SS or CF at one point. -

I don't think Nyquist has ever played center -

How does a coach's salary affect a team with a ton of cash? The only reason Clarkson and Phaneuf are issues is the cap. -
Best player available, hopefully trade down a few spots and get an extra pick while getting a guy they were looking at in the original spot. There's too much time between the draft and when a player is ready to draft needs unless your organization is completely devoid of a certain position.

That's all you need to know about the value of Fenwick and Corsi.
-
Some of those guys are not clearly better. They might put up points, but their defense is weaker. Burns in particular, he should be a forward instead of a d-man.
-
Nobody says he's elite. There's elite, who are Norris candidates, then #1 level guys, who are at the top of the league but not quite elite.
-
So there are only 5or 6. I think your definition is too narrow. At the least I think you need to say the top 10% which would be 21 (7 d a team 30 team =210 d in the league)

If Douchecic could score like that still, he would. He's one of those guys who have a couple good years then stop doing what it was that got them there. -
TLDR version. Miller and Glendening were 4th line players, those overall toi was bumped up because they were the 2 primary PK guys. Babcock is overly stubborn and once he decides what a guy is, that's it. Playing Abdelkader and Helm on scoring lines is not a bad thing. Bowman always had 2 skill guys and a grinder like McCarty, Brown, Glichrist, and Lapointe playing with Yzerman, Fedorov, Kozlov, Larionov, etc.

I would like to see ice girls with huge natural Hooters, Holland to get every player he wants at a discount, and Dave Tippet as coach. I'd be h OK with not spending a dime on free agents and trading young assets for a guy who can help now and down the road.
-
I'd live Neil a few years ago. Now he's over the hill.
-
You realize he has bosses who might be telling him make sure you make the playoffs, right?
-
Maybe the Canes think a lack of Tim Horton's will help Kessel keep the weight of.
-
Junior and AHL coaches are also adapting to the way the game is changing and telling their good players not to fight. If you have a guy like Shanahan or even McCarty or Lapointe, why do you want him to be in the box 200+ minutes a year?

Some people don't understand that toughness without skill is useless now. Also, Lucic hasn't been the tough guy he was before he got the big contract, he's basically Matt Cooke with a $6 mil cap hit -
Or he hasn't decided and is covering his bases.
