Detroit has almost that much wrapped up in Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Datsyuk is older and Zetterberg has back issues. The Sedin contracts aren't the problem, the fact that the owner forced Tortorella on him and he's made a lot of other bad choices. They have 5 guys who are even arguably top 6 forwards, one of whom (Burrows) is playing like crap this year, traded a talented player for a big guy with questionable skill and created a hole at the #2 center spot, and has had to trade both of his starting goalies over the last year. Now he has the most overrated coach in the NHL pissing on everyone to the point where his good players want out, and he had no choice in the hire and probably wouldn't be able to get the owner's blessing to fire the guy. At this point he'd probably be better off telling them that either Tortorella goes or he does, taking a year or two of, and looking for a new job.

Riley Sheahan - Underappreciated and Overshadowed?
DickieDunn replied to Prashanth Iyer's topic in General
A lot of Sheahan's increased offense has to do with his role. ND played a defense first system, and with the Grifs he was their shut down center, again focusing more on defense. Now he's being allowed to play more offense, and he's producing. That doesn't mean he's a sure fire #2 center, but I think he can play the grinder role for a couple skilled wingers, like Steve Rucchin did with Anaheim, only to a lesser extent. At worst I think he'll be a big bodied defensive 3rd line guy. -
$14 mil between them, for 4 years. If Vancouver wants to trade them, they're going to have to take a bunch of money back. Regardless, I can't see them moving the Sedins.

It's 3 years. That's pretty standard league wide. Usually the only players on one year deals are older guys at the end of their careers, guys trying to get to a UFA deal with a one year contract, or a guy who has to prove something.

capgeek has it at $628,333. He gets a raise and the number is still low enough that he can be sent to GR with no cap penalty.

Then Tortorella went into the mess, dropped his pants, took a dump and lit the whole thing on fire.
-
Probably this is true

Franzen scores over 25 and he's a bum. Nyquist isn't shooting more, but he's figured out how to pick his spots.
-
My only concern is that he's setting people up for unrealistic expectations. He's probably not going to shoot 20% long term so he won't score quite as much.

Wings are lucky they're not down 6-1 right now. Jurco needs to not throw a hit on Boychuk there, Boychuk needs to wake the F--k up and not admire his pass though.

Weiss - who would take him next season and does he have a full NTC
DickieDunn replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
And that's debatable. He scores more, but Weiss is better defensively. -

Nobody very good. -
Holy bad call Batman. Looks like a call that would go against the Wings.
-
I think it's covered int he league by-laws, not the CBA. The CBA covers stuf between the teams and players, not between teams.

The league can block a trade. Most trades could at least be argued as legit, but if it was something like Ovechkin for a 7th rounder or something it might not fly.

Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
DickieDunn replied to gcom007's topic in General
The fact that Jarnkrok was highly rated means nothing. Here are a couple older RWC prospect rankings. http://www.redwingscentral.com/2009/06/17/916/2008-09-end-of-season-abdelkader-takes-vacated-top-spot/ Abdelkader, Leino, McCollum, Kindl, Smith top 5. http://www.redwingscentral.com/2007/11/07/85/2007-08-preliminary-howard-keeps-grip-on-top-spot/ Howard, Kindl, Abdelkader, Emmerton, Smith top 5. http://www.redwingscentral.com/2005/06/13/94/2005-06-end-of-season-kronwall-still-king/ -
Remember when the Lions used their top pick on a WR 3 years in a row? That's basically what the oilers have done. Tons of good young forwards, no D or goalie.

If I was the guy's coach, he'd never dress another game for me again.

Flip has 57 points in 105 career playoff games. He had a couple decent years, 16 pts in 23 games, 9 in 12, 8 in 11, but nothing spectacular. He's also either been hurt or ineffective all but 2 of his 8 full NHL seasons. He was blah his first year, better his second, about the same his 3rd, then good (but hurt), bad, good, bad, good this year. Odds are he's either going to play under 60 games or play in 70+ and score under 40 next year.

Every team ends up making trades like that occasionally. -
Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
DickieDunn replied to gcom007's topic in General
The problem with your argument is that you're starting with it's a mistake, because "GOOD PROSPECT." If he doesn't develop into a top line player, it's not a mistake, it was selling a guy the team cooled on while his value was at its peak. -
Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
DickieDunn replied to gcom007's topic in General
Yes they did. I remember people losing their minds over that trade, just like they're losing their minds over Jarnkrok. Just because he was their best center prospect, that doesn't mean he was truly a legit top line center, and the odds are a lot higher that he's going to be a 40 point a year guy than a guy who's going to come in and come close to a point a game. Let me reiterate that the Wings have employees whose main job is to evaluate their own prospects. I don't care how many good things they've said about the kid in the press, they say good things about every prospect. The fact that they were willing to trade him for Legwand tells me that they weren't nearly as high on him as a lot of the fans are. If they were, they could have moved anyone of a number of other kids instead of him. -
Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
DickieDunn replied to gcom007's topic in General
You don't get good players for Ferraro, Callahan, Miller, and a 3rd, which is all a lot of the people screaming to make a trade want to give up. Legwand has been the Pred's best forward pretty much his entire career, and is at worst a second line center. Jarnkrok is a 22 year old prospect who the guys who constantly evaluate their prospects and monitor them far more closely and accurately than anyone outside of the organization, much less a random fan posting on a message board, were comfortable trading for Legwand. This reminds me of the rants we heard every time Matthias or any other prospect the Wings gave up had a good game, until a couple years passed and people realized oh, he's not as good as we thought he'd be. -
He'll give up 4 goals, Wings will win 5-4, people will say "Monster should be #1 he wins his games," then tomorrow Kahn will tweet that Gustavsson tweaked his groin and will be out 2 weeks.

They're in control of the spot though. 2 points over Washington, 2 points and 2 games in hand over Toronto, and the tie breaker over both teams. All they have to do is win and they're in, Toronto and Washington need to have another team stumble.
