Glendening is most likely going to have to clear waivers. He probably wouldn't be claimed though and if he is it won't be s big deal.
-
Dekeyser might get a big offere sheet, but it'd be matched, so nobody would bother. Tatar wouldn't get that much.

Nobody who claims he's not a #1 guy wants to chime in?

Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
DickieDunn replied to gcom007's topic in General
They wanted to get younger and save some money. Even if he took less money, they'd still have to pay him $4 mil or so. -
Weiss - who would take him next season and does he have a full NTC

First, neither are 3rd centers. Second, one can play wing. -
If he was ok being #2 he'd stay in NJ.

He's recovering, not necessarily in the hospital. Even if he was, there are these things called telephones that allow people to communicate over long distances. -

Not if your boss told you that you needed to get a deal done to shore up the center spot because the priority was making the playoffs. -

I doubt that this package was the initial offer. If I was Nashville, I'd want Tatar, Nyquist, or Jurco before I asked for Jarnkrok. -

Because the Wings want to make the playoffs. Jarnkrok isn't ready for the NHL for Nashville, he certainly isn't good enough to make up for what the Wings are missing. -
Gustavsson gave up 4 goals and was lucky to get the start against a weaker team that gave up 7, and has given up 4 or more in 5 of his last 10 starts. Howard has generally payed against the better teams and has given up 4 or more in 2 of his last 10 starts. I think part of it is the lesser competiton, part of it is that the team feels more pressure to play tighter with the backup. Granted, Howard needs to be better, but I don't think that starting Gustavsson is the answer.

The thing that sticks out to me is that when he was drafted, one of the things that he needed to work on was creating space. Now he's 22, and still needs to learn how to create space. I would think that the Wings scouts don't think he'll get there, so they viewed him as expendable. And yes they said a bunch of good things about him. How many times do they publicly say "no, we don't think he'll do anything" about any guy? They always talk about what they like, and phrase the stuff they don't like as "he just needs to work on X." http://www.redwingscentral.com/2014/02/03/4456/jarnkrok-scoring-outburst-just-a-matter-of-time/ -

Unless he's healthy and completely stinks up the joint, they won't buy him out. Even then they might just send him to GR to play. -
The only way Jurco stays is if they only sign one free agent. If they sign 2 guys there's no room for him. They have 7 players who are under contract or are restricted free agents who slot into the top 3 lines, including Helm who they will assume will play. Two free agents will fill out the top 9 spots. I expect Legwand to sign a 2 or 3 year extension for around $4 mil, and for Alfredsson to come back at around $4 mil. That leaves some combination of: Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Alfredsson Franzen-Legwand-Nyquist Tatar-Helm-Weiss If Helm has more issues (at least he's out with a mild concussion now, if it was his back I'd be more worried) then I think Jurco gets the call, Weiss or Legwand centers the 3rd between Tatar and Jurco. That leaves Miller, Sheahan, Abdelkader on the 4th line, with Andersson, Callahan, Glendening, and Ferraro fighting for the 2 reserve spots. Even if they only sign one forward, Jurco doesn't have to clear waivers, so I think that means he will be in GR. Sheahan, Abdlekader, or Andersson will get a scoring line role and one less player will be exposed to waivers. A trade is also possible. Kesler should be available, and if Sheahan has a good run towards the end of the season and the playoffs, a package of Sheahan, Tatar, and Kindl might get it done. If so, Detroit has to seriously consider it.

Weiss - who would take him next season and does he have a full NTC
DickieDunn replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Weiss has been consistently good for several year, not just one or two. Is it possible that he never gets back? Sure. But it's way too early to write him off. Weiss can NOT be bought out. They closed that loophole quickly when they realized that a team could sign a guy to a 5 year $10 mil contract with the intent of him only playing for the one year, giving him a big payday and the team a good player for a small cap hit. I expect Tootoo to be bought out. I don't think Franzen will be, simply because there are only a handful of players who could replace his production available, and they would cost significantly more than him for slightly better production at best. If he is bought out, it will be because of that ridiculous recapture penalty, but I have a feeling Detroit will take a chance on that biting them later for production now. -
Alfredsson gets around $4 mil Legwand gets $4 mil Dekeyser gets $1.8 mil Tatar $1.1 mil Sheahan $925k Glendening, Callahan, and Ferraro get around $600k Quincey might get $2 mil but it will be later in the process if they can't upgrade and don't want to bring up a rookie Almquist, Bertuzzi, and Cleary are gone. The RFA guys have little leverage do they get less than they probably deserve. Tatar gets a bit more than Nyquist because he's proven more than Nyquist had before he signed his contract. No room for Almquist. Bert gets an off ice job. Cleary moves on, no room for him.

Weiss - who would take him next season and does he have a full NTC
DickieDunn replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
He never was healthy except for maybe 2 weeks shortly before he was shut down. Before that he was trying to play through it, which in hindsight was a big mistake. As far as his salary goes, it's in line with what other players with his history sign for. Comparing it just to the Wings players is ignoring a lot of other factors like Franzen lowering his cap number with the extra long deal, kids on their first or second contract, and the fact that Kronwall is on a bargain contract. -
List all defensemen better than Kronwall. Aaaaaaaand go.

DickieDunn replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Most vets who are even kind of good have some kind of NTC. Look around at other teams on capgeek. "studs" like Handzus, Roszival, Clowe, Zubrus, and Scuderi have them. When Weiss has been healthy in the past, he's been good. If he was having problems with his wrist, which is what kept him out last year, I'd be a lot more worried about his long term future than I am now with it being his groin. Sometimes it takes a long time for them to heal for a hockey player since thsoe muscles are stressed so much. If a hockey player has a bad groin, he can't skate. If a hockey player can't skate, he can't do a whole lot of positive things. In hindsight they should have shut him down for the first 8 weeks or so of the season when he hurt it in camp, but c'est la vie. -

Every time people complain about Holland, I want to point out things like this, and the fact that Snow essentially traded a 1st, 2nd, and conditional 5th for Collberg and a conditional 2nd. -
Red Wings have Recalled Pulkkinen from Grand Rapids
DickieDunn replied to Datsyukian-Deke's topic in General
Just in case Alfredsson couldn't go. Yup. That's it. They hate Finns and Czechs. Or it could be because he has a long way to go before he's even competent defensively at an NHL level. -
3/6 GDT: Avs 3 at Red Wings 2 (OT) Sorry Nick.
DickieDunn replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Both D were by Howard. The problem is nobody picked up the forward floating out in space by himself. The game probably should have been put away before then, they really outplayed the Avs through 2, looked like they ran out of gas after that. -

No good defensemen were moved, and they were all rentals. The only reason they traded for Legwand even though he isn't signed next year is because they were desperate for a center, more than a d-man even, and him waiving his NTC to come here and the fact that he's from Detroit and grew up a Wings fan should mean they can extend him if they want to. Vanek or Moulson are probably going to test the market no matter what, and they don't play center, so they weren't options. -
