3/6 GDT: Avs 3 at Red Wings 2 (OT) Sorry Nick.
DickieDunn replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Big difference between call up and full time spot. -
Cap might only be $68 mil, not the projected $71 mil. Just for **** n giggles, let's assume Alfredsson and Legwand both want to come back, they trade Kindl+ for a d-man, and they bring up Marchenko. Alfredsson's $6 mil salary reflects the carryover bonus from this year. Obviously the dollar amounts for the free agents are guesses. CAPGEEK.COM ARMCHAIR GM ROSTER CapGeek Armchair GM Roster FORWARDS Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($7.500m) / Daniel Alfredsson ($6.000m) Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Stephen Weiss ($4.900m) / Gustav Nyquist ($0.950m) Tomas Tatar ($1.250m) / David Legwand ($4.000m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) Drew Miller ($1.350m) / Joakim Andersson ($0.733m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) Luke Glendening ($0.605m) / Mitchell Callahan ($0.605m) DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($4.250m) Alexander Edler ($5.000m) / Danny DeKeyser ($2.500m) Brendan Smith ($1.263m) / Alexei Marchenko ($0.667m) Brian Lashoff ($0.725m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($5.292m) BUYOUTS Carlo Colaiacovo ($0.000m) Jordin Tootoo ($0.000m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (estimations for 2014-15) SALARY CAP: $68,100,000; CAP PAYROLL: $66,301,212; BONUSES: $125,000 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $1,798,788 Either sign a backup goalie for around $1.5 mil ,which is normal salary range for them, or use Mrazek as #2. Still plenty of cap room.

Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
DickieDunn replied to gcom007's topic in General
Remember all the times Holland was ripped for saying he looked at a few things but ultimately the price was too high to make a deal? Remember all the people that demanded he make a deal this year or he needed to be fired? Jarnkrok was what it took. You can't have it both ways, and border line NHL prospects like Almquist and Ferraro aren't going to get a deal done. Does anyone really believe that Andersson, Sheahan, Glendening, and Emmerton down the middle would have been anything but a disaster? Does anyone think that trading Jurco would have been better? -

DickieDunn replied to gcom007's topic in General
He could have played in GR and been the first center called up. He apparently didn't like that idea, he wanted to start the year in the NHL. Where would he fit into the lineup? 4th line? Zetterberg-Datsyuk-FA Nyquist-Weiss-Franzen Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco Miller-Andersson-Abdelkader Glendening is a checker, Jarnkrok isn't. It's about being able to play a role. -

The can buy him out, but not as a compliance buy out. They'd have a cap hit for it. -

DickieDunn replied to gcom007's topic in General
That wasn't exactly what he said. He said he wouldn't have made the team next year with Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Weiss, Helm, Tatar, Nyquist, Jurco, etc. At best he might have been the 12th forward. The fact that it was an issue lends credence to the NHL or Sweden rumor. Jarnkrok is also being sent to the Preds AHL team. If he was so good right now, why wouldn't they call him up to take Legwand's roster spot? -

Let's try this again. Legwand is not a scrub, nor is he necessarily just a rental. Jarnkrok hasn't proven anything and lots of prospects who are "for sure going to be great" never make it. "Can't miss" prospects miss all the time. Jarnkrok wasn't even a can't miss prospect. They didn't trade Datsyuk or Zetterberg. They traded a prospect. Breathe. How many good prospects that Holland has traded have done anything? Fleishchmann. If holland was willing to trade Jarnkrok for Legwand, he had a good reason. What makes more sense, there was some truth to the Brynas rumors, or Holland traded a guy he thought would make it in the NHL in a panic move? -

DickieDunn replied to gcom007's topic in General
Nobody will ever know if the rumors are true or not. The Wings aren't going to say bad things about him, and Jarnkrok isn't going to admit it because it would make him look bad. Hell, it might have come from his agent, not Jarnkrok. Agents have done things without their client's knowledge or permission before, so who knows. -
Who will have a better career as a Red Wing: Weiss or Legwand?
DickieDunn replied to wingedominance13's topic in General
Assuming that Weiss comes back healthy next year, which is likely, and Legwand re-signs, Weiss is younger and has scored more than Legwand, so Weiss. -

Which prospect us better is opinion. People also insisted Nyquist and Smith was the same as Silfverberg and Noesen. -

You're right. And it's not like they have some kind of device that would let them communicate with Holland. Gotta wait for those pony express riders. -

Wings were in on Kessler. Vancouver didn't trade him. They needed to make a trade for a center or pack it in. Ownership mandates the Wings push for the playoffs, Holland made the move he had to make. -
Jarnkrok is a kid. He would not have made an impact next year. Or the year after. Maybe in 3 years. Unless he pulls a Ryno and runs home or never develops. So much angst for a prospect who may or may not be good. How many "can't miss" prospects have we seen not come close to their potential over the years? Jarnkrok isn't even can't miss.

DickieDunn replied to gcom007's topic in General
Legwand was the best center moved. Moulson and Vanek are wingers the Wings would probably have little interest in bringing back. Legwand may have told Holland he would sign an extension, at the very least it seems likely he will. If Jarnkrok ends up being a #1 center Detroit got hosed. If he ends up as a 40 point guy then it's a push. If he flops Detroit wins. Nashville taking Eaves does nothing to hurt us, so you can ignore that. They got a guy who can fill in now at a position of need for a pick and a prospect who is allegedly unhappy. Bottom line. -

DickieDunn replied to gcom007's topic in General
In the end, Holland made a move that gives the team a good chance at the playoffs while trading a spare forward, a draft pick, and a player who may never have played for the the Red Wings. If Jarnkrok decides a full time job in Nashville is worth staying for and he develops into a top 6 center, this trade should be viewed as a definitive win for Nashville. If Jarnkrok bolts or never develops, Detroit wins. http://redwingsandotherthings.wordpress.com/2014/03/05/deadline-review/ -

Eaves-no big deal conditional pick, 2nd or 3rd- not a big deal Jarkrok-guy who may never play in the NHL if he really wants to go back home. Not a big deal. Legwand was the best center moved. Detroit got him. -

Like I said, I'm not happy about it either, but the "I'm done with this team" stuff is over the top. Maybe there's something about Jarnkrok that we don't know that could hold him back, or he threatened to go back to Sweden like Malik mentioned (of course, it's malilk so who knows how accurate that is). It looks bad right now though. -

Almquist is also bad at playing defense and is out of options after this year, where Jarnkrok is in his fist AHL season and is on fire lately.
