Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?
DickieDunn replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Tatar, Sheahan, Kindl, Ouellet, Ferraro, and a pick for Edler and Kesler. With Zetterberg and Samuelsson on Ltir that will work for the cap and give Vancouver a bunch of young players. -

Adding Kesler and Edler would greatly improve the team not only this year but for the next several. Tatar and Nyquist are good, but they're small. The picks and prospects may or may not develop. I wouldn't trade much for an old guy like St. Louis, or a pending ufa like Vanek or Stastny, but for guys in their prime who are signed after this year? You bet your sweet bippy I'd do it. -

It does make me happy because that means the Wings won't get him. How anyone still pays attention to eklund is beyond me. -

Would you trade those guys if it meant winning the Cup this year? -
If you signed a guy to a $40 mil contract that paid him $18 mil in the first 2 seasons, would you be in a hurry to let your GM trade him if you were an NHL owner? I don't see Ehrhoff being moved.

Marty St. Louis wants out because The Captain hurt his feelings

If I was Yzerman I'd tell him to either expand his lit of destinations or be prepared to stay in TB. -

Realistically, bringing Kesler here would almost require a 3 way trade. Weiss has no real value right now because of his injuries unless Vancouver decides they don't care if they make the playoffs. So it'd have to be something where Kesler comes here, a center goes to Vancouver, and the Wings send out younger guys and prospects. Legwand, Stastny, Gagner, Zajac, Ennis, Dubinsky, and Kadri are possibilities for that. -

If the Wings can add a good defenseman, I think they're going to be dangerous. If they can get Kesler and a defenseman, they'll be one of the better teams. -
http://www.knowyourphrase.com/phrase-meanings/Beating-a-Dead-Horse.html Cleary is not good anymore. We all know it. His inserting the same post in multiple threads was beating a dead horse.

I'd like to see the Big 3 get together and name it Motor City Arena or something.

No rentals. Defenseman who is a defensive liability? No thanks. -

He's apparently fine. Selections come out, he's upset. Then he says he wants out. What other reason would he have? -

And the Czechs. I still don't know how they left Hudler off their team. -

It was a committee of people. Yzerman had the final say, but it wasn't him sitting home in his man cave or Buffalo Wild Wings drafting a fantasy team. Babcock and everyone else had input too. -

I agree that D is the bigger need, but unless you can show me 20 better d-men the Kronwall isn't a #1 thing is nonsense. Ericsson and Dekeyser are both better suited as a #3 though. That said, a power forward is a close second on the list of what the team needs. Kesler would address that. Tatar or Nyquist + a 1st+ D prospect + Helm or a B forward prospect. -

IIRC the trade was going to be Yzerman for Yashin. The timing of this doesn't leave much doubt that it's about the Olympics, unless he's wanted out all year and it's just become public. If it is about team Canada, he really does need to quit crying. There were other pretty damn good players left off, and Yzerman didn't pick the team by himself. -
You mean like Briggs Stadium, Comiskey Park, Wrigley Field, Ebbets Field, and Joe Louis Arena? And yes, those musicians did waaaaay more for Detroit than Mr. I.

There are plenty of assets.

The extra 5 or 6 goals you get from Vanek doesn't add as much as everything else Kesler would bring. -
Is Stewart really better than Ott though? Both have 11 assists, Ott, works harder, actually back checks, and has thrown 194 hits compared to Stewart's 76. Stewart is younger, bigger, and has 6 more goals.

Kesler is a better skater and hits a lot more, plus is a lot more consistent offensively, and Stewart's physicality is a bit over rated. Projected out to the same 58 games Stewart has played, Franzen would only have 11 fewer hits than Stewart's 76. Jurco plays a much more physical game than Stewart does and doesn't seem to have the same negative attitude towards back checking. -
Kesler is 6'2" 202 and is 29 years old. He has 98 hits this year and is good for 25 goals a year, and has seasons over 70 points recently. He plays excellent defense, can play wing or center, and will fight when he needs to. He shoots right. He is signed for 2 more seasons at $5 mil a year. Stewart is bigger (6'2" 231) and is 26 years old. He fights more, but hits less. He's not good defensively and doesn't skate as well as Kesler. He's been inconsistent bouncing from 15 goals to close to 30 from year to year. He's a winger, can't play center. He shoots right and is signed for one more season at $4.15 a year.
-
But the Wings will most likely have Nyquist, Jurco, Mantha, Jarnkrok. Sheahan, Helm, and whoever else. Kesler gives them a big, physical, defensively responsible 25 goal a season player who can play wing or center.

Actually, Buffalo is on the hook for all of Ehrhof's recapture penalty thanks to that ridiculously front loaded contract. $40 mil total, $18 mil the first 2 years. -
I don't want Stewart at all, and I don't like Ehrhoff's contract.
