    Dynamo Moscow

I remember when the KHL was going to challenge the NHL as the best in the world and players were going to flock to Russia to play. Oops.

NBA teams pay a dozen payers at any given time and the league makes more money. NHL rosters are 23 players and have less revenue.

I agree he's failed pretty consistently lately, but there a lot of people who say he didn't do anything for the Cup teams. '98 was all Bowman, '02 was Bowman and unlimited spending money, '08 was Nill and the rest of his staff, particularly Andersson for finding Datsyuk and Lidstrom. But at the same time everything during that time frame that didn't work out WAS his fault. It doesn't work that way. Either he's in charge and gets credit and blame as appropriate, or he just sits on the golf course while everyone else does his heavy lifting and none of the credit or blame go to him.
  4. I have a cynical tone because that's how I feel about the direction of the team lately, including keeping Blashill. I had hopes for him, but the team has regressed farther than the talent level suggests it should be. As I've said before, they're in Lions territory now, be just good enough to keep fans spending money. It pisses me off. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk
  5. As Target practice for the driving range. Hit him in the nuts at 150 yards and win a free round of golf Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Good in small doses, dangerous in larger ones. You get drunk FAST on the sweet, bourbony, malty goodness Doesn't change the fact that the Lightning had a pretty good base when Yzerman took over and he's still being hailed as some genius even though he didn't win the Cup yet, while Holland was constantly bashed as just cashing in on the work of others. Holland has been dog crap the last few years, but he did good work earlier in his career. One doesn't erase the other.
  9. Blah blah blah they know what they're doing even though the team is stuck in neutral... blah blah blah don' question Dear Leader... blah blah blah your opinion is worthless....

Coach decides who plays. Mrazek sucked. Howard didn't Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk
  11. This is what happens when life long Tigers and Lions fans see the GOOD team turn into those other two teams Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk
  12. There's a difference between tanking, meaning intentionally losing, and going with younger players instead of vets on the back end of their careers. What Holland is doing is stupid.
  13. No, not any team can go on a run. Preds have Rinne and one of the best d corps in the NHL, if not the best. When the Habs went on a run they had Price and a good D corps. When the Kings did it they were an under-performing team in the regular season that got hot for the playoffs, and had a good group of D led by Doughty. The Sharks had a better D group AND forwards, plus had a young goalie come in and play great. See the difference between them and Detroit?

Yzerman proved that he can take over a team with established stars and have hit or miss results with it, not that he can win a Cup as GM. Ken Holland takes over the Red Wings, replaces Konstantinov and the team repeats, he negotiates for most of his stars to take deferred payments to assemble one of the most star studded teams since the Oilers had Gretzky, navigated the cap and built a team that won a Cup and was a game from a repeat: Bowman, Nill, and his staff get the credit. Yzerman takes over a team with one of the best centers int he league and a good D corps and has seasons where he misses the playoffs, alienates some players, particularly Drouin, and doesn't win a Cup: GENIUS!

Neither are anything special. It's like arguing if a double cheeseburger from McDonald's is better than one from Burger King. Both are greasy, made of "beef," fill you up, and that's the most you can say about them.
  16. Without Daley they probably miss the playoffs, have a better shot at a top 3 pick, and a guarantee of not falling too far back even if the lottery goes against them, and it ensures the younger D have more of a chance to play for a team that needs a rebuild. With Daley they might make the playoffs, where they will probably be unceremoniously bounced in 5 games, costing them a shot at a top 3 pick and guaranteeing them a mid round pick which likely won't turn into the type of star they need, and the young D won't have time to develop. And yes, players do develop at the NHL level. There is a point where playing against lesser competition stagnates development and they need to learn how to perform against better players. There's a difference between "we just drafted this kid and we think he'll be good so let's throw him into the deep end and see if he sinks or swims," and "this kid has been in the AHL for a season or two, let's see what he can do."

I foresee a case of Buyer's Remorse from Jimmy in the near future
  18. With where the Wings are I'd rather take the chance that Sproul takes a step forward than sign a soon to be 34 year old to a 3 year deal.

14 games make him a call up option, his piss poor performance makes him AHL caliber Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk
  20. That would be the only way this was acceptable, if they knew Kronwall is done, and not just for a couple months.
  21. I still don't see anything special about him

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

A package centering on Tatar or Nyquist won't bring a big enough upgrade to be worth it. They'd need to move one of the 4 younger guys, and they should if possible. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk
  24. of the last 4 years he's played over 68 games once. Injuries eventually reduce a player's effectiveness, especially once they're in their 30's. And this "well, defensemen don't age as fast" stuff is nonsense. It's about a player's overall injury history, genetics, how hard they work, and what PEDs they take, if any.

Coreau isn't an NHL goalie either.
