Blashill should have been gone 3 months ago. I wouldn't be shocked if he gets another year. I don't think there is any way Holland gets fired. I think he finishes this contract and either retires or moves up the ladder next summer. I just hope they don't simply hand the job to Draper or Martin when it happens, but I'm afraid they will. Teams are limited to 4 call-ups after the deadline, too. Have to be careful or you might end up short some players for a game if injuries hit hard. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

I think of you ask them everyone would rather be in Detroit. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Getting a call up to the NHL, even on a bad team, is a reward for young players playing well. The logic for leaving him down because he's been good doesn't make any sense. Of course, Holland and Trashill are insisting on trying to win as many games as possible now and not looking towards the future, so I doubt it happens.

I think there are 3 likely reasons for the moves made the last 2 or 3 years. Ownership told Holland do what it takes to keep the home grown talent. Ownership told Holland to keep The Streak going at all costs. Holland made those decisions on his own. I doubt the others mentioned have much input, and if they do, it's still on Holland and Ownership for listening. If it was ownership, it depends on if it was coming from Mike or Chris. If it was Chris, I don't think much will change anytime soon. If it's Holland, I think/hope that he moves on after his contract is up next summer. When that happens, they need to look outside the organization, at least to interview people, instead of just handing it to Draper or Martin. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Holland wold probably pick up a couple guys pushing 30, you know, because you have to start a new streak ASAP and they're ONLY 10 points out of the playoffs. If he did move the #4 pick for a first in next year's draft it's a big risk. Say you trade with Colorado, and they go from worst by far to getting the 10th overall instead next year. You've dropped back 6 picks. Any players they get better be high end young guys. They don't need any secondary players, they need an Yzerman, Fedorov, Shanahan type.

Filppula was leaving no matter what. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

A little less cash a year for more term? I'd take that unless ot was an NFL contract. As for what he said after he signed, of course he said good things. Was he going to say "I'm just here for the money?" Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

I don't think they were offering that term and cash Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

I'm not convinced that they would be a better team with Datsyuk. He didn't want to be here and he hasn't been able to stay healthy for a full season in quite awhile. Of course, they wouldn't have Nielsen and that stupid contract, so they'd be better off in that respect, but that just means Holland probably gives someone else just as a bad a deal this summer. As far as the draft pick goes, there's no telling who the Wings pick with their original choice, they might have taken Cholowski anyway, or gone with a forward or goalie.

Some of the core group of posters from the old RWC started a new site called redwingcenter.com to try and keep it going, but nobody had the time or connections that Matt had. The forums are going, but we don't have the prospect info we had originally planned.

I'd rather talk Ericsson into retiring even if it meant a deposit into a numbered Swiss bank account. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Nobody is arguing that. The situation changed and he wanted out. That's not screwing anyone over. It's no different than what Rafalski did and not as bad as Barry Sanders retiring right before camp when the Lions had no shot at finding a starting RB. The fact he played in Russia, with an easier schedule than the NHL, is irrelevant to the Wings. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Yeah, why not add another guy not worth his contract. Genius! Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

He was leaving Detroit either way. They could have said he could play in Russia, or they could have played hardball and not let him. They chose to do the right thing and let him go, like a classy organization. Also, for most people who do need to sign contracts (media people for example) they can quit whenever they want, they just can't go work for a direct competitor. Even for people who don't have an actual contract, the two week notice isn't a requirement, it's just an expected courtesy.

And can't get your name right.
-
I cannot like this post enough So you've never quit a job where they were expecting you to be there long term?
-
Then how could he have given Helm and G-dog their "I won the lottery" contracts? I don't think it was a dick move on Datsyuk's part though. People quit their jobs while under contract all the time. The only difference with him is that he's a public figure where Joe Schmo isn't. Also, there's no guarantee that they wouldn't have drafted the kid they did anyway. In the end, it's probably for the best long term that he retired and Blashill is a moron who dragged the team down to where it is, because the higher draft pick is more likely to help down the road than the 16th pick would have, especially since they're going to be picking earlier in every round and they wouldn't have sold off the guys they did to get more picks.

NVM, I was talking about Abdelkader The other deals weren't recently signed, long term deals. He already locked Nielsen in with the NMC the first year.
-
In NHL 17 maybe. There's a good chance he never tops 40 again. Helm, Abdelkader, andmost likely Gendening will be protected because if he doesn't, that would be too close to Holland admitting that he shouldn't have signed them to those deals, and he won't do that.
-
I heard Tacoma (Wash) East football star and first ever 6 star football recruit, Milky Waters, is considering switching sports and giving hockey a try. If so, the Wings would be smart to draft him. (Sean Baligian fans will get this).
-
Good? Bad? Indifferent? I give him an A-. I thought he had three jobs: trade Vanek, trade Smith, get what you can for anyone else. He did all three. He got more than expected for Jurco and Smith, less for Vanek, but overall did well. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come and we won't see any more Abdelkader/Helm/Glendening type deals.

Anyone expecting a first round pick for what the Wings were selling or thought he'd find a sucker to take on the bad contracts during the season had unrealistic expectations. first round picks rarely get moved anymore, and teams aren't looking to add salary. Unless a team takes a bad contract back in return or pays a team to take it by giving up[ extra assets, those don't get moved.

+/- and advanced stats, because they're often used in isolation and are therefore more or less meaningless "only 9 points out of the playoffs," because that still puts you last in the conference so it might as well be 50 points getting to 100 points in the standings/being ".500", because with the loser point, it's a lot easier speed, because if that's all you have, you're still not good. "hard work" because nobody gets to the NHL without working hard. A lazy NHL player is only lazy compared to other NHL players. Compared to most people, they're insanely fit.
