Jurco for a 3rd, outstanding that he got that for a spare part. Smith for a second and a third, also great. I would have been happy with a third. Ott for anything at all is good. He was better than I thought he'd be, but still just a reserve forward. The key is moving Vanek now. If he gets even one draft pick or prospect I'll be happy. Smith knows if he holds out a bit holland will up it to 4x4 While he's hemming and hawing the teams that offered anything for Detroit players are talking to other teams. Pull the trigger before you can't.

Like I said earlier, by telling teams he wanted to talk to Smith's agents first, Holland might as well have said no. And really, he got to this point in the season and has just now decided to start negotiations? Why the hell wouldn't he have done it by now if he was thinking about bringing Smith back? Either Holland has a complete lack of foresight or he just wanted an excuse set up for not doing anything.

I'm surprised it wasn't for 4 years at $3 mil a season.

If they give up a first for a guy who has zero goals, regardless of how badly the majority of the players have done under Trashill, Shanny needs his head examined.

He was a 3-4 OLB in college, Detroit runs a 4-3. He didn't fit. NE runs a hybrid 4-3/3-4, he fills a role there. Babcock and Blashill wanted Jurco to play a "heavy" game. He doesn't do that naturally, didn't fit what they wanted. If the Hawks use him opposite Hossa for more than a game or two, we'll find out for sure if it was a usage issue or a talent issue.

Eaves was let go because he couldn't stay healthy as much as anything. Also, one year of scoring at a good rate playing on a top line doesn't mean much. Even Draper had one big year when he skated with Yzerman and Shanahan.

Blashill tried to make Jurco into a different player than he is and when it failed he buried him. I think that if Jurco is allowed to playbhos game and gets a little confidence he'll be a decent player. Put Janmark or Jarnkrok on this Wing's team and they're not nearly as predictive.
