I like guys like Abdelkader. It's stupid to pay them that much on that long of a deal. Generally the idea of a long contract is to either lock up an elite player or to lower the cap hit for a lesser player. His deal does neither, and he's approaching the age where players like him tend to start breaking down. In three years I think we're going to be seeing him playing 60 Games on the 4th line scoring 8-10 goals, not hitting as much, and soaking up way too much cap. -

Nyquist has the potential to hit 30 goals and was thought he'd improve. Abdelkader has scored 20 one time and is as good a he will ever be, and has a longer contract. -

Stamkos is a no brainier if he was willing to sign in Detroit. People defend Abdelkader's deal then say one of the best players in the game isn't worth a huge deal -

IIRC, the time pro will be counted as completed seasons, meaning next summer Russo would be eligible to be taken. Every team will be looking to do that. -

I see deals being made. Last expansion there were a few "don't take this guy and we'll work something out later to help you" type agreements. -
IIRC the rumor was he was a bug time coke head and bad influence, might have even been the guy who got Probert going on it.

1- it's the job of the coaching staff to make roster calls, not the players. Datsyuk should have been told it's not working, he's getting different linemates. 2- maybe it was sarcasm. 3- if he really does want Helm and Abby on his wings, and the coaches won't say no, just make him the shut down line center and replace Glendening's line with scoreray. -
Building through the draft is fine when you're getting high end talent. Detroit hasnt had any proven high end guys for awhile though, especially on defense. Larkin looks like he has a good chance, maybe Mantha and AA. None of them are elite players now, though.

The KHL and NHL have an agreement to not poach players under contract. IIRC the first time they hadn't agreed yet, and the second time he wasn't under contract -

Similar to Pulkkinen. Ability to score against lower competition, but game doesn't translate against bigger, faster, smarter players. -

Is this the NBA?There has been one offer sheet that wasn't matched in the last 15 years or so, that was the stupid contract that the Oilers gave Penner and almost immediately regretted.

A lot of NHL players can score 20 goals if you put them in the right situation. The question is what else can they do? With Pulk, the answer is not much. -
