Bad defensive coverage and blown assignments by the forwards kills the defense. Bad breakout passes and an inability to get pucks on net and keep them in the zone by the defense kills the offense. This isn't football or basketball where you're either playing defense or offense, everyone on the ice is responsible on both ends. You can't say the D corps is better because the GAA is better than the goals for.

GDT 3/29 GDT - Red Wings at Canadiens - 7:30 PM EST

Terrible defensive coverage all game, same old story. -
How you get in can set the tone for the first round. Fumble and stumble in and it's a bad sign that you're going to have your poop together.
-
Yeah but Larkin is a Red Wing so that makes him better already. He's elite, easily one of the top 10 centers in the league even though he isn't playing center yet.
-
Tatar and Nyquist provide almost nothing BUT the scoring, which isn't good enough. Also, being in the top 4 on this team isn't much to brag about. Pulkinnen is what he is,I wasn't expecting much more. Jurco was starting to look good and be engaged physically for a few games, Trashill praised him in the media and scratched him the next game, and Jurco hasn't been the same since. That's bad coaching. Nobody expects AA or Mantha to carry the laod, and only people who think a hot start to a rookie season means a player is already elite thought that about Larkin. AA and Mantha should be playing more than they are, though. Trashill limits their minutes for the same defensive mistakes all the other forwards, including his "defensive aces," are making on a regular basis, only the vets are putting forward less effort than the rookies on a shift to shift basis. That's bad coaching.

Abdelkader's agent disagrees

Too many lollygaggers

Given the way they show up like they're a rec league team who's just there to drink beer at least every other game, I think it's highly unlikely they even go 3-2 in the next 5, much less 4-1. They're toast.
-
And Tatar first on the team in running around like a 10 year old with ADD and choosing to skate through 3 defenders instead of passing to a wide open teammate. Richards is mostly useless, top point getter for the bottom 2 lines is like being the tallest Munchkin in Oz. Points aren't everything, and in the case of Tatar and Nyquist the benching is a wake up call to pull their heads out of their behinds and play the way they can.
-
Well, I guess getting an assist apiece makes it ok that they've been bad most of the year.
-
Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Abdelkader AA-Larkin-Mantha Jurco-Sheahan-Pulkkinen Helm-Glendeing-whoever Doesn't matter who you roll out on d they've all been crap Bench Richards, Tatar, and Nyquist for a game or two, rotate one of the three on the 4th line for those games, and play the kids more than 11 minutes a night, and tell Helm and Glendening if they aren't a pain in the ass on every shift they're not going to play another shift as a Red Wing. Live with the kids making mistakes or die with the vets playing like they don't care.

3/26 GDT : Pittsburgh Penguins at Detroit Red Wings, 2:00 PM ET

His system opened the team up for a more porous defense while decreasing scoring. How is that in any way positive? "Exciting losses" are better than "boring" wins? -

So tired of the team showing up and playing like they're a house league team who's just there to drink beer and get away from their women. -
Team fighting for a playoff spot shows up like this far too often. They don't have the fire that they need. Missing the playoffs could be a good thing long run. Not only would they get a better pick and a shot at #1 overall, but maybe missing will leave enough of a bad taste in their mouths so they never want to do it again and they'll play like they actually want to win instead of coasting and trying to do it their own way instead of buying into the system. Also, there's no more "we need to keep the streak going" argument for making half measures or not playing the younger players who need to be playing.

One: max length deals are dangerous anyway Two: Since always, or it would be circumvention. Three: If you're paying a defenseman that much he'd better be a Norris caliber guy from the day you start paying him that. Four: Who knows what he's going to be worth in two years is right. You might be paying a second pair guy $8 mil a year Five: Trading 4 1st rounders for one guy is a bad idea, period. Six: Can't sell what nobody is buying Seven: Offer sheets are always matched unless the contract is so ridiculously bad the GM would be a complete moron for either offering it or matching it, that's why almost nobody does it. That means it's not a tool that can be used to acquire help

He handles the puck well, and makes decisions on both ends of the ice that make you wonder if he has a fully functioning brain, negating any positive impact he has. He may not be as bad as he was 2 years ago, but that doesn't mean he's good. Protect Dekeyser, Kronwall (assuming he bounces back from this crap show of an injury plagued season), and hopefully Holland wakes up and gets someone else worth protecting.

Mr. I. always said that you don't buy a pro team to get rich, you get rich to buy a pro team. Christopher needs to learn that lesson if this is his idea of how to run the team.
-
No, it's because he's not good. Quincey gets blamed for 2 years ago, Smith gets blamed for now.
-
Why Smith? He's got the brains of a mentally challenged lemur
-
He doesn't own the Lions, the Fords do.
-
I'm pretty sure Chris is running the day to day. He seems to be focused on getting the playoff revenue over trying to win the Cup.
-
Unless they sign someone to a contract including one.

From The Hockey Writers: http://thehockeywriters.com/least-flexibility-in-an-expansion-draft/ Also, the Jets have 3 D with NMC, Enstrom, Myers, and Buff. Trouba and Morrissey will be unprotected unless they choose to only protect 3 forwards under the 7F/3D/1G or 8 skaters and 1 goalie rule. How many Wings have a NMC instead of a NTC?
-
He could still be exposed Which is why I doubt they'll be exempt from having to be on the protected list. The real question is what happens if a team has more guys with a NTC than they can protect?
