Everyone I think jumps the gun with Lou on the Kovalchuk deal. Not once in his career do I remember Lou overpaying for a forward. He's let great players walk away from NJ due to not wanting to match their salary demands. NJ has a new building, and a Brodeur approaching retirement. The Kovalchuk deal smacks of one of ownership directly telling Lou they wanted Kovalchuk in order to help fill a new building after the old star(s) retire. A very un-Lou like deal.

Greg Brady was on AM640 with Bill Waters no? Did he move and get his own show? It's well known he makes no secret that he is a Red Wings fan. He even calls Crosby the "Crosbytron 8700" because he's such a fake little ****.

This is the clank from the Leafs that I've seen for a while now? If he's on your first line....well I was gonna say something bad but screw it! Put him on Blackhawks I wanna have a laugh.

I always had a hate on for the Leafs and the Wings were in the old Norris division with them so we actually saw a whole lot of them on TV here. Well I must have been 8 or 9 years old when I first saw Sergei Fedorov and let me tell you....WOW! Was the most exciting player I had ever seen. I mean, with his Central Red Army card too, you gotta remember this was the end of the Cold War. Eventhough I was young I still remember seeing the wall fall and Yeltsin take power in Russia etc etc. Up until then the Ruskies had been the evil empire in all the movies etc. It was like suddenly the enemy wasn't so evil. This Beckett from 1991. I have the fondest memories of all Sergei's cards and especially that magazine. I feel privileged. I was drawn to the Wings and Feds before they were winners. I can't stand it when people claim I'm a bandwagon fan. Figure that out though. I'm not even from Detroit and liked the Wings while they were still the Dead Things.

This series was closer than it looked. SJ just needed some 5 on 3's is all. Bunch of douches. Ya they played awesome. Winning and tying goals in games 1 and 2 on 5 on 3's. The series winning goal was a microcosm is the series as a whole; Brutal blindside elbow interference on Franzen in the middle of the Sharks zone, no call. Next shift, goal. Definitely deserving.

Ok, the old guys who probably are coming to an end in terms of real substantial usefulness for the Wings are; Maltby Draper Bertuzzi May Osgood The only other older players we have which are really up there but still very much in the mix are Lidstrom and Rafalski who are leading the playoffs for defenceman pts. IF Norris Nik comes back, we're fine. Just lighten his workload during the regular season as Kronwall and Stuart are primed for more minutes and have impressed me with their responsible play. Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Flip and Franzen are still far from old. Loosing the 5 I mentioned will mean our average age drops significantly. Malts Osgoof and Drapes will be staying with our organization in some capacity I have no doubt. So all of a sudden our average age drops significantly without any real loss. Abdelkader and Helm are replacing Malts and Drapes. And a for the author, I may remind him that Belfour from that Dallas team led his Leafs to conference finals playing out of his mind, Brett Hull won a cup with us.

SJ has had more power plays in 3 games than most teams do in 7 games. Almost 30 by my count. And the vast majority have been like Homer's above phantom slash. Including a 4 minute highsticking penalty against Setogouchi which somehow transformed into a Franzen penalty and then a 5 on 3. Also throw in 3 goalie interference penalties where in all 3 cases no one was in the blue paint. No, the refs haven't done a thing. Only snuffing out Detroit everytime momentum seems to shift. Only making the Red Wings play a man down for half a game. Not at all.

Don't do us any favours. Fact of the matter is when they've tilted the series into a 2 games to none advantage to one team, any makeup calls can NEVER have the same effect. The damage is done and me personally I am very nearly approaching my end with the NHL in this guise. From Betteman to Colin Campbell to the referees. It has no integrity, and no professionalism anymore. Back in the day infamous calls or non calls like the 1993 on Gretzky would live in infamy for years and years. These days it seems there are so damn many every playoffs we can't even keep track of them.

Of course you don't care about stats which prove you're wrong. Nik's game has never been about speed but positioning and the thing about that is, it depends far less on physicality and speed than it does your brain. And let me just say, its a TRAVESTY that Nik has never won a Hart Trophy. When he retires and Detroit falls (we will without him), then and only then will the writers, commentators etc acknowledge him as the MVP of the best team of the last 20 seasons. They'll want to posthumously award him one. His no-flash game doesn't stand out enough to top guys like OV.....that is until he's no longer there. Then you notice how much of an MVP he is.

Okay everyone listen up. We've iced from GREAT teams over the years and have since about 1999 been projected to "fall off". Too old, too soft, too slow they said. Shanahan left, Fedorov left, we lost guys like Konstantinov, and Captain Steve Yzerman. Yet somehow we've managed to not only stay competitive, but WIN too. How have we done this? Because the cold hard fact is that Niklas Lidstrom has been Detroit's MVP, above ALL the other guys, including Steve Yzerman. Lidstrom's game makes every player from the goalie behind him, to his defensive partner, to all 3 forwards better and easier. Now we were good enough a number of years to win the cups we did. Would we have won 4 in 10 seasons? Nope. Not without Nik. Bobby Orr Niklas Lidstrom Doug Harvery IMO.

Trust me, I'd rather have Mike Green.

Bertuzzi, Williams need to go. ASAP. Lebda seems out of the race for a top 7 spot. Maltby looks primed for retirement. Those are the outs for sure in my mind.

29 other NHL teams are looking for those tough and hard Canadians. Fact is there aren't many out there worth a damn, and we've proven our emphasis on skill and puck handling over size and toughness is the smarter one. Because 29 other teams are looking for the Downie type, as an RFA/UFA he'll fetch more. Hudler, like him or not has shown he can give us above average 3rd line production for significantly cheaper than it would be to go out and bid with 29 other teams for a Downie. Not saying it wouldn't be nice, but Hudler is the safe option and with due respect, why waste time and resources looking for a player when we've already drafted and developed one. Always always always try to keep your draftees first. Yzerman said it beautifully some years ago on the logic of developing a drafted core and then only dipping into free agency to supplement. Hudler knows the Detroit system and players, knows what's expected and we've already sunk years of development into him. Yes he's small, but we could find toughguys in free agency if need be. We're not gonna score a Getzlaf there or in the draft because of drafting so low, but we could use ancillary scoring and another 2nd PP option which we'll get with Huds.

That is all that matters. Cup or bust is the attitude that permeates the Detroit Red Wings organization and is one of the main reasons why it has been the best NHL team of the last 20 years.
