Best game of the season. I was bouncing off the walls, felt like a game 7... awesome...

In the game against Toronto the other day, in the first break to him and Darren, when it came time for Chris to speak, he said very 5 times in the first 4 sentences, with two very, verys... I just stopped watching and walked away... very, very fast...

I think a quote from the Naked Gun is very highly appropriate at this point: http://www.hark.com/clips/sqbkphzrkr-doctors-say-hes-got-a-50-slash-50-chance-of-living

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/03/red_wings_recall_high-scoring.html Here ya go, everyone wanted to see what the kids got. These injuries are just getting stupid. I check sports everyday just to see who is injured... that actually is the first thing I think "ok, who's busted today". aw crap, didn't see someone already posted this update...mods can you delete?

Unfortunately Dan the Hammer Cleary is also out with a knee injury. I say we ice Micky Redmond, did you see that pass to Sergei during the Alumni game? He looked great out there...he took charge of the team and was the defacto leader. This new top line would probably contribute more: Al Sobotka / Micky Redmond / Gordie Howe

Andersson breaks foot - down another center
LAWings replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
"But, but, but Holland is a terrible GM and we didn't need Legwand and needed better defence." - half the people on the board last week. -
Weiss - who would take him next season and does he have a full NTC
LAWings replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
So no one knows the specifics of Weiss' contract? Is it full NTC or limited, what options do we have? Because once healthy Holland has some serious decisions to make with our centers because we'll have way too many: Hank Legwand Weiss Helm Andersson Glendening Sheahan *Datsyuk (let's assume he's Hanks wing) so we have 3 too many centers. I would say try to move Weiss, Helm (always injured) and either Glendening (no points) or Andersson A healthy lineup looks something like this: Abdelkader/Zetterberg/Datsyuk Nyqvist/Legwand/Franzen Tatar/Sheahan/Jurco ?/Weiss/Alfredsson ? = Miller / Glendening -
Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
LAWings replied to gcom007's topic in General
I may be wrong, but I thought cap doesn't count once you're in the playoffs, and Z is not coming back before the first round. They said his back surgery recovery time is 8 weeks, so that's the rest of the season. Weiss just had another setback, Allah only knows what's going on with his gizzards. With Dats being shut down for 3 weeks, and they told him total shutdown, "don't even get out of bed", we'll revisit if you need surgery. That's a lot of LTIR cap space to work with. -
Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
LAWings replied to gcom007's topic in General
After the last two games losing Datsyuk and now Helm to a possible concussion, our Center core is thinner then dental floss. Holland absolutely HAD to do something with these latest 2 injuries coming in the last 2 games. We simply could not get by with Andersson as the #1 center. Holland's hand was forced to shore up the center position. I agree other things could have been done with defense and what not, but to shore up a Center and another D man at the trade dead line, how much more future did we want to trade more then we already did for Legwand? A solid D would have cost some future prospects and this thread would be 5 times as long deriding Holland for giving up too much future. Besides, the picking are slim for UFA defensemen at the end of this season that could leave their teams, forcing that team's GM to trade them for something: http://www.capgeek.com/free-agents/?year_id=2014&team_id=-1&position_id=D&fa_type_id=2 p.s. don't get me wrong, Holland did a dismal job shoring up defense after Rafalski, Lids and Stuart were departing. -
No. No. No.....no We don't need Subban or his attitude, he wouldn't be a good fit, he's a player that comes above the team not the other way around. Babs would hate him...probably why he didn't see any ice time on Team Canada. If Subban was that awesome, Babs would have played him then. There's a reason he gets regularily benched at the end of the game when Montreal is in the lead. He's absolutely not the answer we are looking for on defense. I also think they got it wrong that he was the best defenseman last year.

I couldn't figure out last night what he did and no one bothered to question or explain in during the broadcast. He didn't drop his gloves or retaliate in any way. There was a lot of chirping between him and Neil so unless Franzen told the ref to pound sand I don't get it.

I dislike corporate named places as much as the next guy. It would be great if they named it in line with the historical lineage of the team, but seeing as how the othe sports team Illitch owns went from Tiger Stadium to Comerica Park I don't have much hope. Stadium naming rights can be a nice cash cow for ownership for pretty much doing nothing, highest bidder usually wins. SchoolCraft Community College Arena

Marty St. Louis wants out because The Captain hurt his feelings
LAWings replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
In my early morning typing I made the mistake of Alfie and yes he didn't ask to be traded but the rest is correct about problems with Bowman, it was pretty big deal back then. Yzerman was a points monster, but was having problems with Bowmans system, which would cause a reduction in points by playing the full defensive ice in order to win (and not just get points). There was tension and it was well known. Yzerman finally bought into the system and the rest is history. http://www.the6thsens.com/2009-articles/november/yzerman-to-ottawa.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Yzerman "When Scotty Bowman took over as coach in 1993, Yzerman initially chafed under Bowman's stern coaching style. Bowman, for his part, felt that Yzerman was not concentrating enough on defence; Bowman had long expected his forwards to be good back-checkers as well. Relations between the two became so strained that at one point, the Red Wings seriously considered trading him to the then-moribund Ottawa Senators." -
I like how you like, used the word like in that sentence. Here's one that's similar to 'like' you'll read all the time in player interviews, "kind of". They always just 'kind of' do something, "I was skating hard towards the net and then I just kind of fell back after being knocked over". No. You either did or did not do that...no kind of. Although not as bad as basketball with the 'you know what I'm sayings'.

Marty St. Louis wants out because The Captain hurt his feelings
LAWings replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
Does everyone forget that Yzerman was butthurt about how he was being treated by Bowman, and demanded a trade...that he almost went to Ottawa (for Alfie...) and was nixed at the 11th hour. If we forgave Yzerman for that, people need to respect Marty and his decision to move on as well. I think it's understandable for Marty to be upset. Think about it this way: Marty is the Captain of Stevie's team, selected as the best man to lead them to the Stanley Cup. Stevie expects him to perform at the highest caliber and be THE leader of all his troops on and off the ice. There have been many platitudes given to Marty since Stevie took over, and Marty and Stevie talked about how upset he was after being left off the last Canadian team. He won the Art Ross last year and is the pretty much the heart and soul of your organization, even without Stamkos, Marty is killing the scoresheet showing how much he deserves to be on the team. Now, Stevie puts together another team but doesn't think the man he selected to lead all his other men is good enough for this new team. If my boss did this to me, I would look for another job too. And I think this is why Yzerman announced right after they won he will not return as team Canada GM, it destroyed the relationship with his Captain. -
I think you just won the internet this evening...

Having analysis from 2 goalies is boring. At times it appears Ozzie is stealing Darrens thunder as what a goalie thinks as Darren was the defacto goalie expert on Fox, now... not so much. I tend to ignore most of what they say now and gain very little insight into a team that the analyst won 3 Cups with. There are little tid bits here and there, but just not as much as I was expecting. I find there's more insight provided when a former forward or d-man is the color guy in the overall playmaking and what's going on. A goalie was never involved in practice day after day working on offensive drills, there's not much he can offer other when it comes to all the other positions floating on the ice, or the plays. And his speaking mannerism is tiring, he pauses a lot mid sentence, like he says 3 words pause 3 more words, pause, 3 more words end of sentence. Ozzie is like a flat black cup of coffee found at 10:37 am in a car dealership on a Saturday morning, it gets the job done, don't expect anything special. Micky is a cup of coffee you find at home after dinner, with a few healthy splashes of 'ginger ale' in it. I still love the guy, but I hope this isn't the future.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/blogpost.htm?id=26171&navid=nhl:topheads Sweden captain Henrik Zetterberg did not take part in practice Thursday and missed the team picture due to a herniated disk. Zetterberg is day-to-day and could still play against Switzerland on Friday (7:30 a.m. ET, NBCSN, TSN), according to Sweden team doctor Bjorn Waldenberg. "We will [make the] decision [Friday] and see how he feels and how he adjusts to anti-inflammatory treatment and rest," Waldenberg said. Zetterberg, also the captain of the Detroit Red Wings, has missed 13 NHL games this season due to back issues. Zetterberg had a goal and won seven of 16 faceoffs in 18:14 of ice time Wednesday in Sweden’s 4-2 win against the Czech Republic. Lovely... just friggin lovely.

No way we become sellers when we have $22 million in cap space opening up. Unless someone takes Cleary, Bert or Sammy, or Tootoo, don't expect Illitch to sell anything but pizza.
-
I would call them productive, but now that Z is injured, I will call them nothing.
-
Guys, we have $22 million in cap space opening up next year if we don't resign Sammy, Bert, Cleary, Quincy, Alfie... Why buy out Z and Mule? We have plenty of room to work with next year. Mule at under $4 mill a year is a steal, considering we get almost 30 goals a year from him. We should try and get rid of Weiss instead of Mule. UFAs next year we should be pursuing hard are Stastny and Callahan...

He owe's me a goddamned Swedish meatball and another Stanley Cup. (gawd I hope there's some humor left on these boards this morning)

He has the life he has because we pay his friggin awesome salary. He owes EVERYTHING to the fans. It's not a gift that falls from the nether world on the back of unicorn poop. It's your hard earned money that you give to them through tickets, merchandise and time spent watching the games. Time is money. I understand Olympics are important for these guys, but they don't pay his salary...we do.
