preds prospects Viktor Arvidsson and Kevin Fiala shootout moves

Yeah, the second move has been done by a bunch of people but I believe Forsberg made it famous. -

While the first move looks cooler, I think it would be easier to stop than the second. With the stick on top of the puck like that the goalie should have gone for the poke. Shooter reduced his options. I want to say I saw that move or something similar somewhere else too. Maybe in a CHL all star game or something. Either way it's filthy and there's some serious skill involved. Nice to see the preds have some offensive skill in the pipeline. -
"Tony Granato has accepted a coaching job with the Detroit Red Wings. Wings still looking for a second assistant. #TSN" Per Dregers twitter https://twitter.com/DarrenDreger/status/488741349491867648 EDIT: LINK

Red Rover would be interesting.

3-3 half ice first probably.

I'm still in the "play hockey until the game ends" boat and I'd really like to see the NHL get away from 3 point games. Either that our make all games worth 3 points. First rule does nothing for that and it's still gimmicky so I don't like it. I also think fighting has a place but there shouldn't be a need to fight in a game twice, this coming from someone who has played competitively for 20 years. So I like that rule. Keeps people honest but still playing hockey. I see the purpose of the third rule but I still don't like it. If someone wants to risk a head injury by playing that's their choice. There are better ways to protect players from injury than penalizing them for giving their all.

This is old news, published the 23rd of June. They're waiting until training camp to see how his back holds up. I don't think anything has changed recently.

Signed Wings re-sign Cleary $1.5 mill + $1mill in game bonuses

It's pointless. The NTC means nothing. We weren't going to trade him anyways. If he plays bad nobody would take him, if he plays well that's what we want so we're not going to trade him. Also I don't get why everyone is so surprised. We all knew last year that this was coming. -
Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you. If it was up to me he'd be in a package for a much better defenseman. I'm just saying there's always the chance that it works out the opposite way we think it would.
-
While I agree with what you're saying and I totally agree if we're trading Tatar or Jurco we better be getting a young top 4 with some term left, your argument should be a two way street. If we trade Tatar for Green and Green sucks then we lost an asset for nothing. But if we trade Tatar for Green, Greens awesome and Tatar falls off the map, then we gained an asset for nothing. While I think that situation is less likely, it's still possible and you still have to consider it. All of our young guns are still relatively unknowns.

You can't honestly believe that. 11-12 Roster. Zetterberg Datsyuk Franzen Holmstrom - Gone Bertuzzi - Gone Cleary - Gone/could be in GR Filppula - Gone Hudler - Gone Helm Miller Abdelkader Emmerton - Gone Mursak - Gone Lidstrom - Gone Kronwall White - Gone Stuart - Gone Kindl Ericsson These are guys that played 20 or more games for us. 9 guys still on the starting roster that we're here 3 years ago. Average age of guys that are gone = 33.5 Current probable starting roster (Assuming we sign no more guys) Zetterberg Datsyuk Franzen Weiss - New Nyquist - New Jurco - New Tatar - New Sheahan - New Glendening - New Andersson - New Miller Abdelkader Helm Kronwall Ericsson Dekeyser - New Quincey - New Kindl Lashoff - New Smith - New Average age of guys that replaced to old guys = 24.6. A little under 9 years younger than the guys that left and gets younger if we move Kindl and bring up Ouellet or Marchenko. We're not retooling. We're rebuilding and transferring to a younger core without selling our current core so we're still competitive. Rebuilds don't happen overnight and they're not always 100 successful anyways. Why can't people see that we're an extremely successful team for one that's rebuilding. Would a couple high picks help? Of course. Would trading stars for picks help? Of course. But what other team has rebuilt while remaining competitive? Not many. We're doing it. Be thankful we're not the Oilers.

There a difference between tanking, and being bad. Pittsburgh and Chicago were bad. We're not a bad hockey team, we're just not a great hockey team. And we're not going to tank the season so I don't know why this is even a discussion.
-
Or he could build a solid young core capable of winning Stanley Cups in the future while still making the playoffs and being competitive every year. Which sounds a lot harder than either of your extremes. Which he's currently and has been doing for the last few years.

Kronner Smith Dk Q E MDZ Not great but doesn't look terrible. I'd still rather give the spot to Marchenko.

Is there a real life salary cap? -
I agree he shouldn't be handed anything. BUT. I think he's already proven he should be top 6 in the AHL. He's not a fourth liner and would be woefully ineffective in that role. He's a scorer, let him score. I get the "overcoming all obstacle makes you better" and stuff but don't set him up to fail and hope he turns out in his favor. He shouldn't be handed anything but he should be put in a position to succeed.
-
Subban and Franson are protected from offer sheets anyways because they filed for arbitration. But I agree, some very interesting names out there.
-
I think he should probably play the whole year in GR. Give him a year to round out his defensive game, learn to play against men, and bulk up a bit more. The guy's a stud but he still has work to do.
-
I'm pretty sure 99% of people on this board would use him as a 2C. He was saying he'd be a 4th liner here because at the end of last season, when we got healthier, that's where Babs used him and that's where he'd use him again.
-
Because we like to never get out of our own zone.

My not-so-dark horse pick for the first overall pick next year: Ottawa Senators.

So were Glendening and Lashoff, but I'd still consider those two "homegrown."
