What if we got a new 91 in town? Vladimir Tarasenko
STL-Wings replied to RedWingFan13's topic in General
They would sell the building and play at a local high school before letting Tank leave. In terms of the continous Backes talk, it is fun to think what that "fight" between Backes and Tank had behind the scenes this season. -
Babcock granted permission to talk to other teams

Hitch was kinda given time to figure out his future as well. It's a weird situation in St. Louis too with their coach. Depending on that outcome, then I think a player or two gets moved. The fanbase would lose their minds if the exact same roster/coach appeared opening night. No one here or, perhaps, in the front office knows what is up with the STL coaching situation. But if Hitch does leave, STL would be very smart to make a very good offer to Babcock and the nature of the team/organization/city seems like a decent fit, on paper. -

St. Louis seems a tempting location for him, if they clear out Hitch in time. Stillman has no issue with putting the money in for his Blues. The media is rather easy in St. Louis and team is loaded with talent, but is in desperate need of a culture change. Babcock with a move or two could make a strong regular season team into a much deadlier playoff team. -
Players who might be available due to teams cap issues

Shanahan also was an A that brought in about forty goals a season. There is a difference between a tough power forward and just a plain idiot. Shanahan was the former. Lucic is the latter. -
ECSF : (4) Washington Capitals vs. (1) New York Rangers
STL-Wings replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I suppose Rangers. Given the teams left...anything that isn't Chicago, Montreal, or Anaheim. -
Born and raised in Saint Louis (father a huge Blues fan). I have never even been to Detroit. When a kid, I was a huge Shanahan fan and followed him to Detroit. He left but I stayed with the Wings (yes given being in my late 20s it's really a big pile of winning years). Fell in love in the history, type of organization, the fan base, etc. In no other sport have I seen such a fan base embrace "outsiders" so well. So for now, I catch the Wings when in StL, SoCal, and have even seen them in Toronto. Can't wait to make it to a home game sometime.

Brodeur signs with Blues. 700k + some nutty bonuses
STL-Wings replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
So Elliot more seriously injured than thought? Allen is the future goalie for the Blues and Marty isn't signing to be a backup. Organization seems to just leap from one odd idea to another. The best part of last week was Backes trying to fight Tank in practice! Now that's leadership... -
Who isn't calculating in their job? Pretty lousy career in anything if one isn't calculating somewhat to advance themselves.

We are a team that can really screw up some other teams in the playoffs. Team needs more time and a couple of changes, but Detroit is certainly moving in the right direction. Marked progress each season is realisitic.

gdt 11/28 GDT - Red Wings @ Devils - 7:00 PM EST

Play 60 mins. 2 points. 4-0 Wings. Every win helps in making my Leaf and Sens fan friends a little more sad as the season progresses. -
Sutter is a good coach with a very good team. And the Kings went through some just horrendous seasons to bulk up. And they will still tell you today that it is Holland's Detroit that is the model. And I agree with Babcock. If the bigger names don't want to be coached and pushed then don't bring them here. I can't read the man's mind, but I would figure if this season is a marked improvement from previous then he may stick around a couple more to see where it leads. If it is the same or worse, I would assume he walks (Hitch has a year in STL...deeper playoffs or get replaced year). Again, the only one who knows is Babcock but the interview did help in perception of the team/offseason.

Thank God someone is saying it.

When will we know about Alfie? (Legwand signed w. Sens)

August...already tired of that. -
Sure the location of a team is a factor. Not many are going to dream of living in Buffalo or Manitoba. Detroit has it's issues like every city. Chicago isn't a paradise, but they have a monster team right now. LA can boast a great team and a great climate to live. No one is shoveling snow in January as opposed to Detroit, New York, Saint Louis, or Boston. But really it is the team/management. Something is off in Detroit. Part of it is just the natural decline of being a Top Three team for around twenty years esp in an expanding and leveling league. It was going to end at some point. Now the rebuild on the fly is the organization not wanting to put the fans through an Edmonton experience. We are still competitive, but not at the same level. Tanking isn't going to happen. Financially we can't afford it.

signed Quincey re-signed by DET. 2 yr s $4.25 mill AAV

I actually feel for the guy. Same for our twilight year all-stars. Even some of the promising younger guys have to be wondering. I know they are professionals and all but they are still human. They are aware of what is said in the papers, Internet, etc. -

Mother of God! I rather re-sign Bertuzzi and throw him on defense. That wouldn't even be close to our worse signing today. My fear is we trade a Tatar or similar for a no-impact defenseman. And I don't see how, short of a miracle season, Babcock returns after this season. -
For all that is holy...YES!

Def OC but I would commute to Staples.

We will get a nice early look at this season's new styles in diving. Embellishment City!

Signed Detroit re-signs Gustavsson 1 yr $1.85 mill
STL-Wings replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
There are certainly worse options for a backup. No problem with Gus for another year. x1000 -
Remember when our players come back healthy that is just like a trade. And I like our team. I don't even know what to say.

Berglund never uses his size. He plays like he is 5'4 out there. And he has been horrendous on a much better Blues team. Why would he flower here? St Louis would gladly send him packing for a beer guy and compensated parking pass. Shatty is the best player they have that has a chance of moving. And I don't think the Blues would take Z for him. Any trade with Detroit will demand our youth.
