They could be looking at Pavelic, but if they got Howard they wouldn't need to keep him for the rest of his contract. If the Wings retain lots of salary, they can use him until Quick is back and then move or waive him. If he only costs say $2 million, he'd be worth taking a chance on, and would be much easier to move if needed. Both goalies arent the best options considering their play the past couple seasons, but it's slim pickings right now.

Four defenders make over $5 million a season, and none of them are playing at the level of others around the league who make that. Kronwall is a shadow of his former self, E shouldnt even be in the NHL, Green doesn't produce the offence he's capable of (or was capable of) anymore, and DD has regressed since his first full season but still got a huge payday this summer. Holland couldn't afford to let him walk, so he overpaid. When your top paid guys are some of your worst, your in big trouble.

0-2 is nothing I agree. Still 80 games to go, but the exact problem everyone was worried would be exposed this season already has in a big way. The league has seen that there is no defence on this team, and they are going to exploit it any way they can until something is done about it. IF something even CAN be done about it. 10 goals against already even with the way Mrazek has been playing. Hard to stop a 2 on 0 due a horrendous brain fart by one of the teams highest paid defencemen. Pretty well all of the goals against were due to defensive breakdowns and trying in vain to kill PPs running around aimlessly. I hope things change, but it's hard to be optomistic with the way Holland runs things.

It was also mostly the kids playing. Ott/Miller/Glendening looked good against other AHLers, but put them on a line together in the NHL and they can't do jack.

But Holland will probably be allowed to stick around for at least a few losing seasons before Mike or whoever is in charge of his franchise by then even gives him a warning his job is on the line. The whole loyalty thing goes too far from the top to the bottom of the franchise, failure be damned. Don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or anything. Z will probably still be captain of the team after he can't even play anymore. Just sit on the bench and hobble onto the ice whenever he needs to talk to the refs.

The Panthers announcers kept mentioning how bad the Wings defence is. Teams around the league are just waiting to snag an easy two points from them i'm sure. They could show up with massive hangovers and still win because the only challenge to scoring goals is beating Mrazek, which will happen sooner or later no matter how good he plays when the D keeps giving up huge scoring chances and continually turning the puck over and floating around blindly. He must be beyond irate at how they've been hanging him out to dry. I can't believe how bad the D is. Way worse than I thought they'd be. Holland must do something soon, but if he doesn't/can't, at least they'll get a top 6 pick in the draft and Illitch can stop hanging on to The Streak. Even if they did get in the playoffs, it'll be another quick exit. Making the playoffs is meaningless if your just striving to get in and not being able to compete.
