LOL I was going to write that much about Bernier's career but i left it short. Thanks for finishing.
-
I don't get it either, he's played well for every team he's ended up on. Just wrong place wrong time. Cap issues and/or weird management decisions have led to him jumping around. Quick was the man in LA, which made him expendable. Traded to TOR, where he did hold the starting job for 2-3 years, but they somehow weren't happy when he slipped a bit, so they traded him to ANA (for futures!) to play out the last season of his deal. Toronto has to be one of the toughest teams to play for as a goalie (any position actually) with they're stupid fans.
-
I thought for sure he would try to take a pine ride to a Cup with a contender. But there's no room these days, too many proven vets and solid up and comers. Enjoy your retirement and millions Jimmy.
-
Ghost would be a nice addition.
-
I liked the Cole trade. But he only lasted three weeks and never played one playoff game.
-
I expected a thread about Karl Malone.
-
I'm hoping this is a case of all the new guys needing time to gel with the rest, rather than all the new guys just aiding the team in going nowhere.
-
I nearly forgot about Weiss. He was a great player when Holland signed him, just didn't work out cause of Babcock, like you said. When Babcock actually gave him some leeway he played well. Also, sometimes when players leave teams they've been with for years to somewhere completely new, it doesn't work out for them. Nielson is another perfect example of that, and a dumb snap signing to try to offset the loss of Datsyuk. Had Holland not tried to extend the streak, signing guys like Weiss and Nielson and trading picks for guys like Legwand and Cole at the deadlines just for the sake of making the playoffs with no real chance of winning the cup, this team would probably be contending again right now. Should have started to plan rebuild around 2012 after losing 4-1 to the preds in the first round.
-
Nope. But we already got the OT point. Can we get the second?
-
Would he get us a much better player in a trade like Primeau did though? That Shanny trade was a steal.
-
1-0 Wings. Namestnikov!
-
Oh, and the "taxi squad" thing is dumb, but I guess the league has to meet protocols or shut er down. It just doesn't feel like real NHL hockey to me, i didn't even watch the playoffs. lol

I expected Greiss and Bernier to be better. Greiss' numbers aren't bad, but he's 0-3. Alternating the goalies every game isn't going to help them either.
-
Could have had Vasilevskiy too if Holland didn't trade the Wings 2012 first to Tampa ( GM Yzerman) for Kyle Quincey. By saying COULD, that means Holland may not have wanted him anyway, or he may have been gone before the 20th selection came up. There's all kinds of past draft/trade scenarios that could have the Wings as a contender right now instead of a cellar dweller. How many Cups have the Rags won in their entire history? 4, as an OG 6 franchise. 1941-1994 was one long ass draught. And it's been 26 years since that draught ended. Lundqvist carried them to within striking distance, but the teams in front of him could never help him out when it counted. Wasted his whole HOF career there. Watch Lafreniere want out eventually..that franchise is cursed.

Always been a nice looking jersey.
-
Not all of them stand out as cheap Chinese s***. Like I said, it can be hit or miss. Also came across a Belfour #20 Sharks jersey...damn cool.
-
Not too bad. Jerseys are so cheap from chinese sites like DHGate. I've bought quite a few jerseys for around $40 CDN each with either very cheap or free shipping. They are all worth the price, although sizing can be hit and miss. I try not to buy s*** from China anymore though..they end up with enough of our money already.

The fact that Vegas was able to become so competitive so quickly says a lot about the parity in today's NHL after 15 years of the cap. Roster spots are harder to get, everyone contributes. The 4th line, bottom pairing, and backup goaltender on most rosters are all very solid vets or talented rookies now. They used to be lazy/out of shape grinders/enforcers and D you could throw out to give 1-3 and the top pairings a quick rest and serviceable goalies who rode the pine for 60-70 games a year and give the no 1 a night off once in awhile, instead of 50-55 in a clear cut no 1 sitch, or 40 in a 1a/1b sitch. Anything positive they brought was a bonus. Pick through who the teams leave unprotected again only a few years after Vegas did. Nothings changed...there WILL be some stars and lots of talent available.
-
If they both only had one or two years left on their contracts, maybe. 3 and 4 years? Pass. The Bolts just won the cup..that first would likely end up in the 20-32 range..and 20 might be generous. Makes no sense to me.

I probably disliked Deadmarsh the most. Especially after the 2001 Quarter Finals when he played for LA, scores the Game 6 OT winner, series over 4 games to 2. Otherwise known as "The stunner at Staples". It was more of a case of Potvin standing on his head and Osgood s***ting the bed than anything though. lol
-
Yeah, that goes for pretty much any '95 to '05 or so Dives player. Forsberg, Roy, Foote, Deadmarsh...all great candidates.
-
Wow, now THAT is gonna piss off anyone old enough to remember the Nords finally becoming a contender after 15 years in Quebec City just to have their team snatched and moved to Denver...where they won the Cup in their first season after the move. Yeah, the white Nords jersey was sweet.
-
Yeah, nothing wrong with it. I guess if one guy establishes himself as your clear no 1, you'll end up paying him more anyways.
-
I'm happy with Greiss as well. Hopefully he takes firm grip on the starting job so they can drop Bernier after this season and get the goalie cap hit down some. Gives Seider another German dude to chill with, too.
-
If we can get some good picks i'd take the Quick trade. Bernier's contract is over next summer so we'd have him as a starter for a couple years. And hopefully, we will have Askarov, and he's ready to go when Quick goes.
