The higher expectations also had a lot to do with the media and others, as i recall, over hyping the s*** out of him and Tatar as being "The next Zetterberg and Datsyuk", when they were never going to reach that level and step up and lead the team. Not those type of players. He went downhill along with the team, although he did step it up this season until he was traded.

Well Nyquist is a 48 point per season player on average since he came up to the NHL full time in 2013-14. Lowest total was 40. He's at 55 for this season, his best so far. He was going to be missed, for sure.

He's keeping the Canes in the playoff hunt, but they are hardly contenders. Played more games than McElhenney, and has similar numbers. They've been a solid, cheap tandem. Mraz is in a much better place than where he was in the summer, future uncertain, having to sign a cheap "show me" deal. Why not be happy for him that he found a team that likes and respects him, where he is contributing and having some success?

Ahh, some goalie Holland traded and then replaced with Bernier for $1 million less. Seems like things worked out for him though so far.

Some Canes fans think Mrazek will be looking for a salary increase to what he was making in Detroit, around $4 million per season on a 3-4 year deal. They also have McElhinney, who has played excellent as well, and will want a raise, probably close to Mrazek's. His age is a question though, so perhaps another 1 year deal. Nedeljkovic who is overripe in the AHL, and they have to get into NHL action soon. Not ready to be a starter, but they have to see what he's got. Darling is never returning to the big club. So they have a three goalie jam. The tandem system seems to be working out great for them, but they have a decision to make. Diggin' the black equipment:

Marner won't get that much. He'll get more than Nylander and less than Matthews. $9-10 million. The leafs can buy out Marleau's $6.5 million or whatever and do a couple other things to make room. That being said though, Dubas overpaid for Nylander.

Could have. But Vas could have just as easily been as much of a bust as he is a star. Never guarantees in drafting goalies. Seems more late rounders become elite than early rounders. Not as much immediate pressure, and time to develop, perhaps? You do have first rounders like Fleury, Price, and Vas that lived up to their potential, and ones that def didn't, like Al Montoya (6th overall), Brent Krahn (8th), Brian Finley (6th), Chet Pickerd (18th)

Yep, nothing wrong with this at all. Howard said wants one year deals from here on out, being 35 years old. His deal has no trade clauses either, so if they want to move him at the deadline next season, no obstacles.

Chara always has the advantage no matter what due to his height and reach. I agree that he took it easy on Kane here, seemed to just be toying with him after he landed that one that sent his helmet flying. Kane still beaking off after too. He took a sucker shot at Chara and ended up getting owned.

I look at it this way. If Kenny wanted to sign him, he had to give the NTC, or no deal. No one asks for an NTC on a one year deal on a non-playoff team unless they're tired of moving around or are planning to retire and don't want the playoff grind or care about the playoffs at all, strictly about the easy money. What would the return for Vanek be as a depth scorer? Last time Kenny traded him, he was playing really well and still only got a 3rd and McIllrath in return for him and a lower pick. This season he hasn't done much, wouldn't get anything that matters in return.

I'd hang onto Glenny. Kronwall, if the offers decent, may as well. Unless he's planning on playing another season. Vanek won't agree and will probably retire, and with Howard, I never believe any rumors. He's been rumored to be traded more than enough times. Either it happens or insiders need to stfu.

Couldn’t get a first out of SJ? It is what it is though. Was originally reported he didn’t want to waive the NTC because he liked it in Detroit. I never put much stock in the theory that players agree to trades to get the team they’re leaving some assets, but maybe he re-signs in Detroit in the off-season. Far from guaranteed though, too much can happen in the meantime.

I'll get to watch this one. Satari should start, just cause i wanna see him play, and points don't matter.

DSP was great for the Caps in the playoffs last season, he scored a few huge goals and he's not afraid of the rough stuff. He only makes 1 million and is a UFA this summer. Not saying Kenny should have grabbed him, but i wouldn't be against it either.
