    Buyers or Sellers ?

Pretty sure management wants to resign Howard. I thought Bernier was the plan going forward after this season, but he's not inspiring any confidence in anyone that he can be the starter. Wouldn't be surprised if Howard gets a new deal next year sometime. I hear rumblings of him possibly fetching a first rounder though, that's a tasty return. Nyquist, it depends what he wants to do. He's a UFA so he might wanna test the market. If he does, trade him for assets of course. Last season i would have said trade him either way, but he's really stepped it up with Z and Tatar gone. Wouldn't be opposed to re-signing him. Also, see what teams are offering. If it's something that can't be refused, they can aleways rent him out then re-sign him in summer. Same with Howard. If theres a first offered for him and he's still not re-signed, they have to take it. Re-sign in summer.
  5. Yeah, Sparks was brutal. So was Bernier though. Blowing a 4-1 lead, christ. I had better hopes for him heading into the season, but he's been a disappointment. Especially since he's got two more seasons to go. Could have gotten the same play or better out of a goalie for half the salary or less.

Shanny was never a real Wing?? I don't think i've ever seen that statement on these boards. He was the final piece the team needed to win the Cup in '97. Won two more with them after that. Hit, fought, scored..guy played his ass for Detroit. It's also the team he stuck with the longest in his career. Nine seasons. When people think of Shanny, Wings fans or not, they instantly think of him in a DET jersey, not NJ, STL, HFD, NYR. He didn't leave just because of one season under Babcock, although they may not have always got along. No one always gets along with Babcock. He's a no bulls*** coach that expects the best you can give. Shanny said when he signed with NYR that he thought he was part of the past in Detroit, new guys were stepping up and leading the team, it was in good hands, just time to move on for a new experience. As for "poaching" Babcock, that was years down the road, and obv Shanny knew he was a great coach. There was always a huge chance Babs would be moving on after his contract expired anyways. The team was trending downwards, he already took them to the WCF final, then two consecutive Finals in '07, '08, '09, winning one Cup and nearly two. Nothing left to accomplish.

Yeah, he only started getting into two worthwhile targets at the end there. Werenski and Trouba. Good to know Werenski would like to play in Detroit with Larkin though. He's an RFA after this season coming off his ELC, but I doubt Holland would offer sheet anyone.

It wasn't OK, but in this day of the PC NHL, dropping a glove on the bench to punch someone is going to get you suspended. I do agree Calvert should have gotten equal punishment for the spear that started the whole thing though. Bert still got off light, so there's that. But downside is he will be watched for dirty play more closely. Suspensions happen though. It's good that he didn't pull a Witkowski and leave the bench. lol

Could have been worse. 2 games instead of 5, he lucked out. I wonder if Uncle Todd will call him up and tell him to watch that kinda s*** from now on, and remind him of how being a loose cannon and ending another player's career for nothing started his own drastic career decline. This is a warning from the NHL, next time it'll be worse, and he is needed on the ice.

Yes it is. Max 5 games if it’s not in person. I imagine the spear on him will decrease the punishment. Hoping one game.
  12. OK Bernier, time to earn that money tonight. get er done. Mintyyy.

Ya Nylander was pushing it holding out for $8 million per. Bridge deals have disappeared though. Pretty sure Marner and Matthews were quoted saying he should just sign already. His actual cap hit for this season is $10.3 million, next season it drops. So he basically got what he wanted in the end. Did I just type that? $10.3 million for a 61 point guy? That's insane.

Ahh, no. I missed that all along, and no one corrected me on it. Shows how much they know their team. It would work then, especially with a Marleau buyout and if they let Gardiner walk, but i'm sure they'll try to keep him. Hainsey i figured was as good as gone. Sparks and Ennis need new deals as well as the others you mentioned, if they decide to keep them. Sparks i'm sure they will, but he won't get a crazy raise. Andersen plays most of the games, but that kind of bit them in the ass last year. I thought he looked drained by the time the playoffs started.
  17. Bert got robbed of a 2 goal evening due to that Oscar quality interference sell job by Rask. That ugly bastard. As if the refs called that goal off. lol.

s***, i just noticed they have Kadri at $4.5 million per until 21-22 and Marleau has one more year at $6.25 million. Haha just handing out that money! They have $5.15 million in open cap. Ya, they're screwed unless they can move some contracts. They could buy out Marleau's last year too, they have buyouts open.

Been telling all the tons of Leaf fans up here the same thing, that they'll never hang onto all their top 4 forwards. Nylander just got $6.9 million per for 6 years. Marner will want close to that, Matthews will demand Tavares level money/term. I just don't see how that will work out, especially when you add in Gardiner and all the other lower level guys that need new deals as well. It's like Chicago's situation a few years back, but worse.

Which Goalie Will Have The Better Season?

Arizona claimed Pickard off waivers from Philly. Guess they were looking for a goalie. And what the hell is with Philly and the goalie graveyard of doom? Can ANYONE play well in net there? Cursed since Hextall manned the nets himself. He was fired the other day too. lol

Which Goalie Will Have The Better Season?

Wow. Wasn't expecting that, honestly. I knew they weren't happy after giving Darling that big payday and him falling apart on them, but figured his contract had him stuck there. They now have a tandem worth a combined $2.35 million on an NHL roster. Steals and deals for days. Poor Scott: “It just doesn’t make any sense to have three goalies and the other two deserve to be here right now,” general manager Don Waddell said Thursday. “It’s clear he’s the third guy. Whether I’m paying him to play for Carolina or paying him to play in Charlotte, I’d rather have him playing in case something happens and we need a goalie. “These decisions are not made easily. There’s a business we have to run. We’re in the business to win hockey games. Contracts are contracts but when it comes to wins and losses you can’t put a dollar value on it.”
