Good thing they didn't trade him. I know it's still early in the season, but he's played 4 less games than Larkin and he's 4 points behind him, leads him by 2 goals. That's what happens when you don't give up on talent way too early when you have nothing but time.

Haven't checked up on the team stats in awhile. AA has 10 goals and 5 assists in 18 games??? Dig it!
-
Yes, i did need to. Found the article. Says multiyear extension. I'm hoping that's not Holland code for " $6 million per until age 40". But 2, maybe 3 years between $4-5 million per is cool. Both goalies making $7-8 million per season together.

Which Goalie Will Have The Better Season?
chaps80 replied to ChristopherReevesLegs's topic in General
When he was on his game, he was a top NHL goalie. But he didn't work hard enough. Always said that was his biggest issue, it wasn't lack of talent. Moving Mrazek and signing Bernier is pretty much a wash in salary and ability when you break it down. Holland was done with him in regards to his work ethic and his attitude, and I think Mrazek wanted out too. He should be around the league for awhile if he doesn't slack off. -
Big goal Bob scored big goals though. The moment Todd Bertuzzi's style of play changed forever. He was a beast in Vancouver, hit everything in sight, scored tons of goals. Very passive in comparison after that.

OK, i'll stick up for him, kinda. His GAA is 2.76, give him a break. He's injured anyways. lol But curiously, his best game numbers wise this season was against the Wings. It's a shame he didn't turn out to be what he looked like he was going to be for Detroit, but he's keeping an NHL job. So far... But he's not in Detroit anymore, so it doesn't really matter what he does. -
Mantha soft ALWAYS.
-
Always had my boy's back. Sudbury hockey players work hard. They have to to get noticed. Mantha has size, but Bertuzzi has balls.
-
It's all that Sudbury water.

It's not that he's blocking anyone. Lots of people complained about having both Howard and Mrazek on the roster. Bernier makes one million less than Mrazek was. Still quite a bit tied up in two goalies, the situation hasn't really changed. If they bring him back for a season at 4 million though if they feel the need to. i wouldn't hate it. But, play it year by year, don't toss him another three years or anything.

I can see him sticking around or coming back, cause Holland. But what's the point? He better come cheaper if he does.

Megan? Gonna be fun seeing that on the back of a Wings jersey. Hopefully he's good, don't know much about him. I see Bert got the go-ahead goal tonight. Glad to see the local kid up full time and contributing. -
Yep, if there's interest then trade him. Especially if they aren't planning to re-sign him and are willing to roll with Bernier/somebody.

I was hoping Bernier would look better than Howard, only since he's signed for three years. Other than that, it doesn't really matter this season. The team in front of them is s***ty, so their numbers will reflect that. Bernier looked awful until yesterday, but the team as a whole played probably their best game so far. Blash should play him a bit more, he's sitting too much. -

Bernier after tonight's game: 4 3 1 2 0 0 108 15 4.21 .861 -
They won!! Bernier just lowered his GAA to 4.21!!

Bernier? He better wake up. This team is going to be guaranteed a top 4 pick after this season anyways. That's what keeps me going.

Howard: 8 8 1 5 0 2 265 23 3.07 .913 0 Mrazek: 6 6 3 2 0 1 139 16 2.67 .885 0 Bernier: 3 2 0 2 0 0 78 13 5.06 .833 0 Bernier has been terrible. -
Well, the overpaid long term deals lead to overall roster suckage. But quite a few of those contracts are gone after this season anyways. To me, that’s when the team can actually begin the true rebuild. Offhand, I know Abby, Helm, Nielsen, Green, Daley, Bernier will be left out of the vets. That’s not bad. But this season is gonna hurt. Next one too.

He is horrible in Detroit. Bad fit. Has nothing to do with NYI. He had great chemistry with the guys who are no longer there before he left. Lots of fans want former players back on their teams. It means nothing. Every team has guys that suck. We just have a lot of em.

Fans don't make the trades, as someone pointed out. Which is obvious.

Just realized he was unsigned. I know he's never been what you'd call a big game goalie, and was always a bit overrated and overpaid in the past, but his career numbers are solid (310 wins, 2.71 GAA, .912 sv%), and his numbers last season were better than Johnson, Ward, Mason, Mrazek, Halak, Lehner, and Bernier, who all found jobs, and he wasn't able to. Why not? He'd still be a serviceable backup for cheap. Was it his rep for not being solid when needed in high pressure situations like the 2016 Game 7 St. Louis blowout? Was he asking too much for what he currently offers? Or did he just say "Screw it, I'm in my mid 30's. I'm rich, i'm staying home instead of riding the pine for s***ty money."?
