Andreas Athanasiou Officially Signed 2 yrs. $3M AAV

AA\s speed alone is worth his contract. Look what Holland gave Helm for his speed and...nothing else. At least AA can put the puck in the net as well. -
Which Goalie Will Have The Better Season?
chaps80 replied to ChristopherReevesLegs's topic in General
Yeah, his attitude did stink. I always thought it was because he held a grudge that Howard was never moved to make way for him, but he had some fits in Philly too. As for adjustments, he knows what works for him, and when he sticks with that, he's fine. There's no real flaws in his playing style when he puts in a complete effort. Seems like he can be razor sharp and focused and ready to dominate one night, then the next game he doesn't give a s***. That's where consistancy issues bite him in the ass. Be interesting to see if he can put in a solid season and stick around, or slack off and get sent back to the CR for good. Some of that may be wishful thinking. Bernier is signed for three years and Howard may be done in Detroit after this season. People are just hoping, like myself, that he can take over so we don't have to re-sign Howard or another goalie for $3-5 million next July. -

If Howard is moved at the deadline or is let walk, Bernier may get the reigns full time. Depends how he plays leading up to that of course -

Yeah. I do like AA with his speed and hands, but he's gotta step up more. He's got a 2 year show me deal for more money now, maybe we see some jump. -

Shocked me as well, but it's two way and it's league minimum. Bernier, I dunno. He's moved around a lot in his fairly short career. He could. Probably split with Howard until the team decides what his future with the team is, then will get a chance to take over i think. -
One tough SOB. R.I.P. Sugar Ray.

Probably, but it's done. At least Holland wasn't prepared to continue the Coreau experiment and signed a decent backup. Things are alright. -

The thing is, Mrazek in top form is still better than Howard in top form. And he showed that before he was traded. He's still a hell of a goalie when he actually gives a s***. That's his downfall, and this will no doubt be his last season unless he's ready to work. If he does work hard, he may surprise a lot of people. He's his own worst enemy. His skill set doesnt suck. His work ethic sucks. There is a difference. -

Yep, both Mrazek and Howard will never win a Cup. I mean, he seemed to have turned things around before he was traded, but he s*** the bed. Oh well. He got himself a contract in Carolina, last kick at the can. He's his own worst enemy. Vezina this season? Howard and Bernier share. -

As for Coreau, good riddance. I’m surprised he even got a contract anywhere, but the stipulations of it are all you really need to see to show that no team really has any expectations of him becoming a regular NHL goalie. He got a two way deal and a drop in last season’s salary to 550k in the NHL and 450k in the AHL, which is where Anaheim should keep him. -

Nope. After he started stinking it up in Philly when he was playing great before and a bit after the trade, that was the end for me. I knew he’d get a contract somewhere for this season, but I figure it’s his last chance in the NHL. I’ll take Bernier. Just because he’s signed for three years and i’d like to see the Wings get their moneys worth out of him. This is his fifth NHL team, so he hasn’t actually been a shining example of consistency, but he has talent. I hope Howard and Bernier split games pretty evenly this season. Solid 1a/1b tandems like Hasek/Osgood are always better than a definite starter/backup deal. -
Probably something about playoffs being the goal when he should have been rebuilding two years earlier.

Dig it. -
Play them with Vanek. Yeah. He even got another 1-200k over a year after he left Detroit. I thought he'd come in at around 2.5, but he probaly had other offers around 3 million.
-
I wasn't disagreeing with the Bernier thing. He'll be alright splitting time. Wasn't comparing him to Grubauer either. I just said I would have liked Grubauer as a Wing. If he did keep putting up the numbers he did, he'd be our starter for a long time. Goalies are often a crapshoot, even some veteran ones. All good.
-
He is a stopgap, but he hasn't had a starter's workload since he left Toronto, and even there I think he was under 50 games each season. He's better in a tandem, which is why it will work with Howard.
-
I was hoping for Grubauer but the Avs killed that one. Hutton would have been my second choice, but he was set on Buffalo. He was the Wings first choice apparently, Bernier was the backup plan. He should be fine if he's not in a starting role full time. Split with Howard this season, then if Howard is let walk or traded at the deadline, gonna have to sign someone else in the summer. I can't see any of the prospects being ready for full time backup duty by then.
-
Yup. If Vanek contributes like he did here before, i'll be happy. Guy still has a dangerous shot.
-
Tavares contract will complicate things when Matthews, Nylander, Marner, etc are due for new deals. Plus, i think having JT around might not make Matthews very happy. He was supposed to be the franchise player for years to come. All of a sudden he's got Tavares to compete with. Didn't know about Anaheim signing Coreau. Is it a depth move? For their sake, I hope so. NM, it is a two way deal. 650k NHL, 450k AHL. lol
-
Bernier is good as a stopgap if he'll be splitting games with someone. At $3 million for 3 though it could be worse I guess. Isles have Griess locked up at $3.3 for 3 starting this season.
-
Yeah, at least one million too much, and one year too long. Bernier isn’t horrible, but he’s not great. He’s a UFA after bouncing around from 4-5 teams. I asked my friend who is a Leafs fan about him. He said while the team sucked as a whole with him as their starter, he didn’t offer much help. Flip and Vanek are trademark Holland moves. Bringing back ex-Wings. Id rather not trade AA, the team needs him. there’s a few useless forwards who can go, but then again, they’re probably untradeable due to contracts.
-
Rumoured Bernier deal to be signed July 1. 3 seasons at $3 million per. Whyyyyyy? They wanted Hutton, but he’s rumoured to be set on signing in Buffalo. Wings met with Lehner, no go.
-
Meh. Don’t like it, don’t hate it. The rumoured Bernier deal though, overpayment for a journeyman. $9 million for three years. Why would you even sign him for more than one, two MOST?
-
Can't believe the Avs got Grubauer and Orpik for a 2nd rounder. The goalie i wanted in Detroit is now a ******* Av. Oh well, theres still options.
-
I couldnt believe he was still on the board at 6, the whole Wings table probably busted a nut when Arizona passed on him.. What a steal. We needed D, but they couldn't pass on that. Ended up getting some good D and G prospects later on. Successful draft.
