Coulda been. His value obv didn’t increase much though if he was offered up for a third. Hasn’t been inquiries from teams lately. But there’s been teams inquiring about Howard lately. How come we never hear about said teams or offers? What if they are better than Mrazek could bring and gets the team out of the last season of his deal? Gotta make that trade then. Would be cool to know what’s going on there.

Seguin for Eriksson takes the top prize though. He lucked out with the second overall pick due to a first being owed to him by a dismal team. Ottawa? Was basically gifted Seguin, still screwed it up. Funny how he was the guy in charge of pulling the trigger on horrible trades involving both of that years first (Hall) and second overall picks with different teams. Haha

No he doesn’t have to accept that third for him, but he seemed pretty trigger happy. Calling them and offering him for a pick right after their starter was injured. Them turning it down May have nothing to do with the pick in exchange. Could just be Mrazek doesn’t fit with what they may need right now. Short term reasonably priced help they can just send to the minors once they no longer need it. Both their goalies are going to be back before playoffs. One Probly much sooner than that. Yeah. I’m thinking that Philly trade MAY be nothing but rumour. But it’s still a piss off. A third?? One round up from the fourth they had on the table from Edmonton in November. That’s a s***ty return.

On a back to back I can see playing Howard. What is showing, is Holland has no respect for how Mrazek has played lately. Jumping on offering him to Philly right after he heard of Elliott's injury. Just seems to love screwing with his head. He deserves better than that.

Yeah. The guy is playing great right now, so it would suck. Who knows the extent of Neuvirth’s injury though. If this is just a precaution or short term thing, they 99.9% won’t make a move. If it is longer term, then Mrazek going there could be a possibility, but he doesn’t make sense as a stop gap measure and would create quite the logjam when all goalies are healthy. They have much cheaper stop gap options in Johnson and Niemi that they wouldn’t need to give up much at all for and can simply waive when Neuvirth and Elliott are back. Anyways, it’s idiotic that Holland is offering Mrazek to Philly for a third after his turnaround. He’s playing great right now. But he wouldn’t take a fourth from Edmonton earlier in the season when he was riding the pine for a month? FFS. Teams are apparently calling about Howard, but he’ll ignore that and offer up Mrazek to any team that loses a goalie. Howard must have some real dirt on Holland. It would look like a disaster of a deal around the league if Mrazek ends up being the long term starter Philly has needed for a long time and all it cost them was a third. Doubtful. Philly didn’t even ask about Mrazek. Holland offered him for a third and they said no. If they do bite now that Neuvirth is injured, will probably be the same dumbass terms.

Yeah I just read that Mrazek was offered to Philly for a third after Elliott went down. Really? IF there was an offer, I’m not surprised they turned it down. Especially if salary retention is off the table. As I said above, Philly isn’t desperate to pick up a goalie that they’ll need to turn around and waive in a month, or even really in need of doing so. Waste of assets. If Elliott was out for the season, maybe. They will stick with Neuvirth for now. The goalie market is dead.

I knew what it was. Howard is average though. Many goalies in the league are today. Even the elite have their down stretches and seasons, and some have never won a Cup. Times have changed since Hasek and Brodeur.

Holland probably already made a handshake deal to stay on as GM here until he croaks. They’ll turn his office into a geriatric care home for him with his own PSW on hand 24/7.

That’s true. Who knows, he may be focused on getting in shape and improving to get a recall. Just throwing that out there that he may not care. It happens. Just doesn’t look good on Smith that they’d risk losing him for nothing on waivers after giving up what they gave up so far. Seems like a major issue with him.

Smith simply may not care anymore. He got his cash for life contract. He can slack off all he wants and never see the NHL again if that’s his chosen path. The Rangers overpaid then overpaid again. Not often you see that type of assets and money invested in a player just to have the team turn around and waive him. And it’s not like the Rangers are that good. It is a massive red flag.

Exactly. Need to move on. People talk about players needing to be traded for not playing to their potential around here all the time. That actually happens with Smith and people would take him back, even though he was waived by NYR in his first season after signing a $4 million per season multi year deal and them giving up a 2nd and 3rd to get him? No thanks. He’s their problem now.

Enough with bringing back former Wings. Especially ones that can’t stick around the league. I know it’s a favourite move of Hollands though, so I wouldn’t doubt he’s already been working the phones with the Rags asking about Smith.

Ahh I didn’t realize they already had a guy on LTIR. That does change things. But ya, they could trade a ghost contract to a team needing to add cap. Best case for Ottawa is Gáborík actually retires if there’s some indication he’s considering it.

If you say so. I never implied that he was average. He was a risk at that contract, that’s all.

Yay another two points.

They ditched Phaneuf’s contract for Gaborik’s. Gaborik has a history of injuries dating back to his early days with the Wild. Highly doubt he finishes out that contract. He’ll either retire fully on end up retiring on LTIR. Either way, that contract is cleared. Ottawa could win this trade of that happens. LA gave him that contract after the 2014 Cup win. He was a big part of it, so I can see wanting to keep him around awhile. But SEVEN years at $6 million? That’s pretty bad. He’s on his fifth NHL team for a reason. High money demands and injuries. Just ends up not being worth it. But, if that’s what he wanted, they may have given it to him thinking the same thing, that he wouldn’t finish it out.

Mrazek starting? Guess Blash is planning on using both goalies right now. That’s how it should be. Jimmy’s play has dropped off after a good 2017. Mrazek’s has improved after a bad 2017. Fairs fair. Cause Holland.

Because neither goalie has the job right now. If Howard does have the job back, it’s not deserved at this point. He’s done nothing to keep it in the past month.
