Blash was asked last night if Mrazek has earned more playing time. He said absolutely. When that will be, who knows. But I agree. If they are shopping him, he should play tonight. Maybe Blash and Holland are unsure how to proceed now? He may not have only raised some trade value, but renewed some interest in keeping him around as well. We’ll have to wait and see.

Just saw Mrazek’s save on Boyle last night. Unreal. Haha deja vu for that guy. Open net sure goal stopped by a stick.

So others besides myself feel this way? Good to see. The whole “Jimmy earned the starting job and shouldn’t have to give up starts to Mrazek” thing is pretty senseless with the current state of the team. Jimmy is a veteran goalie. He shouldn’t get butt hurt over the team giving their other option a look if they want to, especially heading into an off-season where that other option is an RFA and the team being sellers at the deadline. They have a decision to make in goal going forward, so starter and backup designations can go right out the window. I can see playing Howard and not worrying much about Mrazek right now if the team were a contender. But they aren’t. Jimmy losing a few starts is not a big deal. If it is, it’s a big deal to him and only him.

I liked him too. Skilled, but he was broken a lot in his NHL career and never really found his footing with any team. Too bad, guy could have been a solid starter. He got the Wings into the playoffs in 2014 when Howard went down. Maybe leaving Europe for Toronto cursed him.

The process of Holland trying to talk this team’s way into the playoffs? Sorry Ken. You need to actually put a team together that can do that on the ice. Is the true rebuild and deadline sale on yet? Or do you need another 5-10 games to figure out the obvious direction you should take? Your goaltending isn’t good enough to steal games, your defence corps sucks, and your forwards are either useless, past their prime, underperforming, or just not at full potential yet. Screams rebuild to me.

I would think he could be signed as a UFA. But him being qualified as an RFA doesn’t mean his $4 million is set in stone. Contract amounts can still be negotiated, whether up or down. I was kinda surprised at that, actually. But a guys play dictates his salary. If he underperforms, the team shouldn’t lose him due to the qualifying amount being unearned if they want to keep him and he wants to stay. If he performs better than expected, he shouldn’t be stuck at a lower salary. That’s usually the time when extensions with raises are signed. Always room for negotiations with RFAs if both sides agree. The reason to trade Howard is for draft picks. As for Halak if he is part of a Howard trade, he’s just one option they’d have for next season. Not saying he should be signed. Always goalies available in the off-season. I wouldn’t be too concerned about goaltending right now. Many rebuilding teams run with cheap decent goalies for awhile. Keeps the cap down. No point having a guy at $5 million plus when his play won’t change your fate anyways.
