No thanks. Although I'd trade Nielson for him...

    Griffins Calder Cup Playoffs Thread

Been reading a ton of good things about my fellow Sudburian Bertuzzi throughout this run. He hasn't really showed that playing style with the big team yet though. Hopefully he does next season. Seems McIllrath has been crucial as well in keeping the flies off and other teams honest. Nelson says he makes everyone on the team about 5 inches taller. Lol Least our minor club is making a great run, kinda takes the sting away from the s***ty season and the Pens being 5 wins away from repeating.

2017 ECF: OTTAWA SENATORS VS. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

Maybe the Ducks should have gotten Pronger's contract from ARI (that is where it is now I think) at the deadline.

Ya man. If they just gave you two aspirins cause you said you had chest pains and sent you home without doing tests or an exam or anything for $50, LOL.

2017 ECF: OTTAWA SENATORS VS. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

I guess it was bound to happen, it's been nearly 20 years, but the Pens doing it? There's 28 other teams besides Wings and Pens. Such great Wings luck lately...

2017 ECF: OTTAWA SENATORS VS. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

I really hope they don't. That would just open old wounds that haven't and may never fully heal from 2009. That loss was on the Wings, they had it in the bag and collapsed, but that doesn't help things. Having them be the last team to repeat... WHY THEM?? The repeat in '97-'98 is one of the major things we have left from the dynasty days and Stevie era.

The Ducks should be able to hammer the Pens. Hopefully Gibson is good to go for Game 6, cause Bernier won't be enough. If the Preds win, I dunno if I give them much of a shot against the Pens.

2017 ECF: OTTAWA SENATORS VS. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

7-0 against the Pens with a patchwork D. That was very very unexpected, with this series being mostly close so far. Anderson's turn for a horrible game I guess, only Ottawa doesn't have a Murray to help out. Only one and done Hamburgler. Anderson better get his head straight, Still one more shot at staying alive going home. Hope they take it to 7 and pull the upset off, but it's not looking great. 7-0. FFS. The Pens just won't go away. They remind me of the Hawks the past few years. Always a horseshoe up their ass when they need it most. Could be losing by one goal with one second left in Game 7 and the centreman would score right off the faceoff.

Just checked the score. 5 to f***in 0 for PIT?!?!?! Come on Sens, you HAD THIS!! What a collapse. f***kkk!!

Bishop signs 6 year $29.5 million deal with Dallas

Maybe not, but the massive wages health care workers (especially doctors and surgeons) make still has to be covered somehow. Pharmacy costs can be cut down, some meds are ridiculously expensive. Isnt health care run by private companies in the States?

2017 WCF ANAHEIM DUCKS VS NASHVILLE PREDATORS

Gibson injured? If he's out for the playoffs the Ducks are screwed. That's if Pittsburgh gets past Ottawa. Still a best of 3, and the Pens are lucky the Sens ran out of time in Game 5. Horrible time to take a penalty in the last minute of a one goal game with the goalie already out for the extra attacker. Lol

Well, the free health care sure is nice. I just had my gall bladder removed, which was only a one night stay in hospital, but the room for one night, surgery, pre-op emergency care and post-op nurses, medications, etc. would have cost a bundle out of pocket elsewhere. Some do pay high income taxes (the ones that make over a certain dollar amount), but some comes back at tax return time every year. The sales tax is ridiculous though. We've had some horrible Ontario governments in the past (and currently) who have wasted taxpayer dollars on a massive scale, and the only solution is to keep taxes high to keep the coffers full. Alberta has it easy paying only 5%.

I'm so glad Babcock did that. Not many coaches would have pulled Dom, even at the end of his NHL career. I doubt he would have rebounded. Just didn't look confident in there, just...old.

2017 ECF: OTTAWA SENATORS VS. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

Yeah, Fleury has been great. Gonna be a hard decision who to keep when they're seasons done. Murray is the obv choice future wise being ten years younger and already a Cup winner. They may not have much longer with Fleury at 32. Anderson has been amazing these playoffs as well. Good to see him finally get his due. He's been underrated for a long time.

Malkin speaking out about how they have to be better tonight, but not in the usual way players do. Not very humble is he?

2017 ECF: OTTAWA SENATORS VS. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

Murray starting tonight per NHL.com. He was supposed to start the first round, but got injured in Game 1 warmups. Lol. The kids a good goalie, but he's only 23 and missed a lot of time with injuries since he's been up with the Pens.

Alberta is 15% provincial tax on anything over $202,800, among the highest, but all provinces are high enough. Lol Federal tax on top of it is 33%. Sales tax is cheap in Alberta though. Only 5%, compared to 13% in Ontario, 15% in Newfoundland.

Bishop signs 6 year $29.5 million deal with Dallas

Calgary would have been a good option if he was strictly looking to go to a playoff team, but money wise, not with our s***ty CDN dollar. Same with Winnipeg, except playoffs are in question. No goalie wants to sign in Philly and curse their career unless the offer is wayyyy too much to refuse (Bryzgalov got rich off them without even playing lol. What was his deal? $10 million a year for ten years, bought out after one?) or if they're a goalie with no other options, like Ray Emery. I'd choose Dallas out of those teams too. There could have been other teams interested too though, just not obvious ones. Like Florida. Luongo is nearly 40, and won't play too much longer. Sign Bishop, leave Luongo exposed. Vegas would probably jump at him.

2017 ECF: OTTAWA SENATORS VS. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

Yep. Both teams have played the same amount of games in getting to the third round, but the Pens had a much harder second round than the Sens did. The Sens had a bit more rest too, even if it was a couple days. That factors in. Plus the Pens have played a ton of hockey this season and last. Sens are fresher.

2017 ECF: OTTAWA SENATORS VS. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

Hey, whatever it takes to beat the Pens. I don't want them getting any closer to taking over the Wings as last team to win back to back Cups. The Sens can get demolished in the Finals for all I care.

Bishop signs 6 year $29.5 million deal with Dallas

Holland isn't in a bad situation anymore goalie wise either. Mrazek has one season left at $4 million, and Howard two at $5.2 million. The ideal situation would be that Mrazek rebounds and signs a long term extension. Even if he doesn't rebound fully, but plays respectable, he's still an RFA, so Holland has negotiating room at arbitration (if it goes that far) for a one season deal for cheaper if he doesn't want to give up on him yet. If Howard stays healthy and plays like he did last year in the minimal games he did play, then Holland should be able to trade him. If he can't, and Mrazek has played well enough, and he is comfortable having him be the starter full time going forward, then Holland can buy out the last year of his deal for $2.5 million in 2018/19, and $1.5 million in 2019/20. Then promote a backup from within (Coreau/Matej), or sign a journeyman NHL backup. Both would be cheap options. With Mrazek's extension, Howard's buyout, and a cheap backup, should be less than $10 million for a season, then down to $7 million (maybe less) or so a season after that.
